Michigan's record when passing for under 100 yards

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Put this together last night. Went through every single box score since 1949 when NCAA stats became official.

Michigan's record when having sub-100 yard passing games is 122-56-6.

Bo was the best. After he left here, things changed offensivey.

Michigan was 69-11-2 while he was here when throwing for under 100 yards. The run game was that damn dominant.

Since Bo retired after the 1989 season, we are 10-8-1 when throwing for under 100 yards.

"Went through every single box score since 1949 when NCAA stats became official" is right up there with "that tractor-trailer just ran over a school bus filled with kindergarteners and kittens and puppies and naked supermodels" as the saddest thing ever written...

This sort of statistical analysis is standard fare, the kind of research that announcers employ every game. I'm glad WD posts stuff like this. What's "sad" is the seemingly limitless need to denigrate WD from some of you. I guess being a petty bully on the Internet is a sign of a rich, variegated life.

Went through every single box score since 1949 when NCAA stats became official.
While I would have preferred the non-official years to be included as well, I'll allow this. How long did that take?

I know they've met but I think she needs to have John on as a guest co-judge or bailiff.

When someone gives a whacked out story Jim needs to give his confused as hell face then say something witty like:  "Sounds like you need to take some personal responsibility, do you hear a horse complain when it rains?"

Or: That is the laziest thing I've ever heard.  Get the hell out of here and take charge of your life. There is less wine in Napa(well after wildfires maybe).  Or I don't know, makes them do pushups in unison with him until they stop lying.

I wonder if any of those pathetic passing games included the Michigan QB throwing into double coverage while a tight end was wide open?

WD did this research too, but couldn't conclusively tell whether Sheridan was throwing into double coverage, at the open tight end, or was trying to hit the mascot. Also, in a less joking manner: Chad Henne undoubtedly overlooked an open tight end to chuck a prayer to Braylon in 2004 more than a couple times. And that was ok and correct....

I love your devotion to the Wolverines! Now if only JOK wasn’t so devoted to his primary read, and would look for the 2nd and 3rd options.

on smaller rosters, more parity, and more sophisticated passing offenses. It's not totally surprising but I'm still begging for balance to be achieved. Most of the folks hear appreciate the work WD does and the humor that can go with it.

but I feel the only bit that's very relevant today are the post-Bo numbers and if I counted right I see we're 1-5-1 vs top 25 teams. We're gonna need a much better game from our QB is we want to stand a chance this weekend

If I'm reading that right then as much as I don't think of him as a passing attack coach, Lloyd Carr (outside of his first and final seasons) only had a single game where Michigan didn't eclipse 100 yards passing.

Did Bo even let a QB raise him arm above his waist in 1971?!!

The answer is in this Bp quote:  Schembechler criticized the play of his quarterbacks: "We have a lousy offense. We're going to have to run the ball every play

A while back I read something where Tom Osborne essentially ran the option in lieu of a short pass situation - wonder if M could get away with doing something, not necessarily the option exclusively, but perhaps inverted veer mixed in with jet sweeps, wildcat, or even certain high percentage passes like fb in the flat or a hb slip screen.
