Let the healing process begin!

I’ve been deliberately avoiding M convos for a week. Just still struggle to get my head wrapped around the plethora of mistakes and decisions that led to a loss (close) to a team that would lose to M 9/10 times.

definitely need some healing

i don't see why picking the scab woulf be of any help 1 week later

i didn't even watch the 2nd/3rd quarter of the UM-UGa CFP game until last summer (Live I had watched the 1st Q live then turned it off and then went out with family/friends, then caught some of the 4th Q live at the end, lol)

I'll probably revisit this game this summer as well.

Yeah this has been a tough one to process.  I think it is because the loss was both 100% explainable based on poor play, but also 100% random based on bad luck.  Like, we could have played poorly and won, or we could have had really bad luck and won.  Instead we played poorly and got really bad luck, and still almost won.  There have been a lot of difficult Michigan games to process and file away.  This is top 5 for sure.

If you listened to the WTKA roundtable, I think Seth pretty much summed it up.

All of our mistakes were catastrophic swings in expected points, their mistakes were fairly inconsequential.

And we still only lost by 6 points.

We played our worst game of the season, and it required them to play their best game to escape.

Georgia is gonna kill them

I defintely dont think it was our worst game of the season.

We made several mistakes, but it wasnt that the amount of mistakes was higher than normal, it was the fact that, as you noted, every mistake we made seemingly gave them a touchdown or took our points off the board.

Offensively, I thought we had one of our best days of the year in the passing game. We found ourselves in a shootout with one of the nation's best offensive teams, we suddenly couldnt run the ball, and yet we still managed to keep up with our QB who "can't throw a deep ball" and "pedestrian" wide receivers.

Defensively we corralled Duggan, and kept their running game in check. It was a decent performance, just not our best.

Kept their running game in check?  What planet are you on.  They ran for 256 or some shit.

They literally killed our shitty defensive line all night.  Mike Morris was clearly not even close to being healthy still and our linebackers had by far their worst performance

The passing numbers were the result of McCarthy and Wilson playing backyard ball in desperation time.  The controlled passing game that we had all year was virtually non-existant.  The running game was stuffed because one month of prep was devoted to a game plan so uniquely Michigan in concept that it defies belief - send the RB between the tackles!  No play action, no misdirection, no QB runs...  Just run between the tackles when you know the LB's are firing at the RB when the ball is snapped.

Finally, down 21-3, they tried something different.  But it wasn't until late in the 3rd quarter that the desperation throws came out in force and the game was put in JJ's hands.

Worst game of the year by a mile, and it was because the coaches gave no respect to TCU and had the entire team under-estimating them.  Michigan arrogance at its very best.

Six very bad Michigan plays represented a 42 point swing:

- The two Pick-6's,

- The two Blitz-6's,

- The fumble at the goal line,

- The Philly Not-So-Special.

And yet we still were driving for the win at the end of the game.  (It is noteworthy that Ohio State's five very bad plays against us this year led to a 22 point loss.)

Change the six very bad Michigan plays above to merely five very bad plays . . . and we win the game and are playing for the National Championship.

It might be the most bewildering loss in Michigan history in terms of what could have been versus what did not need to be.

Michigan played like 90% of Michigan bowl teams … unprepared and unwilling to change until too late … and the embarrassment will hardly be lessened by TCU losing the NC game … end of discussion

So Jim is going to interview for the Denver job. Hope he does not get the job and stays but interviews with the NFL will be an annual occurrence.

No one knows that. We can be frustrated with this happening again, but you can’t be sure it will happen again, much less year after year. It is certainly a possibility if his contract has a small buyout. In no way is it a certainty. Only time will tell.  I’ve enjoyed the last two seasons greatly, and hold no grudges. If he wants the NFL and is offered a job he wants, he should go for it. I can understand any coach tiring of the college game the way it is structured today. Many of us are and it’s not even our likelihood.

I was listening to Paul Finebaum's show the other day. I don't know why. It was mostly Georgia fans were hating on Alabama. One Dawg fan said the only reason the OSU game was close was because Georgia played their worst game of the season. I hate the Buckeyes, but man the lack of respect the SEC people have for the B1G is annoying. I would love to see TCU do the impossible.

Yes, they are. But I prefer to chase the leader. That's how this climb thing goes, in general, IMO. You see it more in the NBA than here - CFB is so much more random than what the NBA is - great laboratory for dynasties there.

Plus, our DNA seems to only prepare well for teams we know well. Remember a couple years ago when most of us thought it was impossible for us to ever beat Thee Ohowihate University?

I've really avoided the podcasts and Michigan Insider for the last week or so. Just really not in the mood to listen to it. Hard not to feel like Michigan truly squandered a golden opportunity to play for it all.

Credit to TCU. They took advantage of the mistakes that Michigan made. They are certainly the team that is more deserving to be playing for it all, but I have a hard time believing they are the better team. I have a hard time believing that if that game is played ten times, that Michigan doesn't win it eight to nine of those times. It took 4-5 catastrophic mistakes, all of which led to TCU points, for TCU to win, and they still only won by six with Michigan having a chance to drive for the win in the final minute.

Again, credit to them for taking advantage of Michigan's mistakes, but they did not win that game so much as Michigan just flat out lost it. Michigan beat themselves. Sonny Dykes even said a few days ago that preparing for Michigan is much easier than preparing for Georgia because he knew Michigan wouldn't deviate from its run schemes, so he could get more aggressive and sell out to stop the run because he knew what was coming. Sounded like Hoke's 2012 and 2013 teams. Opposing teams coming up to post-game pressers and talking about how predictable Michigan was and that being a key factor in what decided the game.

I'm not sure if Michigan would've beaten Georgia this year. They would definitely not have been favored, but this was likely the best, and certainly easiest, path to a title that Michigan could've ever asked for. And they freaking blew it. Gave the game away.

Not much more needs to be said than that. I hope Georgia just wipes them off the field and makes it 31-0 at halftime. I hope every TCU player and fan in that stadium has that brutal "come to Jesus" moment where they realize they are only there because they were the recipient of every possible break they could've gotten this season. TCU is an 8-9 win team just about any other year, but every variable, high leverage moment went their way this season so there you go.
