It was earlier in the possession.  Carr was furiously signaling for a timeout from about 32 seconds onward but the clock wasn't stopped until it ticked down to 28.  Then, after Carr pleaded a bit, the refs had them put it to 30 seconds, so we still didn't get all the time we wanted.  But somehow PSU is convinced that was a horrible injustice.  What's even crazier is that the exact same thing happened on their last possession - JoePa pleaded for, and got, 2 seconds put back on the clock.

4th and 4: 11 Personnel, TE Trips to field.

-Penn State goes Nickel w/ split safeties. Henne looks to field since #1 to boundary has safety plus corner. TE flat plus double slants to field. Penn State is maybe in Quarters? In any case, Manningham is #1 and singled up w/ no help given #2 inside. CB gives up position. Game: blouses.

Some statements made about Michigan in their preview:

Michigan has no receivers.

Michigan is a spread team.

PSU can't allow Michigan to run havoc in the backfield.  I agree.  They can't..  But if that's a worry, PSU is toast..

I like their comment that Michigan is the worst 5-0 team in the conference.  Yeah, that would be one of two (actually OSU is 6-0), and I'll give you Ohio ahead of us.

Yeah I wish I mentioned the receivers a bit more. I was jawing about how Funchess to receiver was a good thing and I think he took it the wrong way. Gallon actually had a higher RYPR last year than Robinson.

When I talked to them though they were pretty down on PSU.

It really is fascinating to listen to opposing fanbases and their view of themselves.  According to these guys, Penn State is a better team than Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Iowa, Indiana, etc...  I mean, the level of delusion is incredible.

Also, "This may be one of Penn State's best offenses ever".  That phrase was uttered during that podcast.

When they mentioned that they believed this to be one of Penn State's better offenses since, well, ever, I did immediately run to the numbers and I would have to take issue with that - 109th in 3rd down conversions, 55th in yards per play, 37th in yards per game...mostly middle-of-the-road numbers in Division I. I was curious as to what data they were looking at.

First off, good job Seth.  You came off as a reasonable and knowledgeable guest, and represented your website and the Michigan fan base well.  The podcast itself struck me as unexceptional except for one part.

At the beginning of the podcast, one of the hosts took exception to someone commenting (presumably on their website) that "PSU's not had a good defensive coordinator since Jerry Sandusky."  The host was appalled that someone would mention Sandusky's defenses.

Of course "good" is not an optimal word to apply to anything Sandusky (apart from uses like "good riddance" or "good to see you rot in jail", etc.).  But the way that they squirmed around about Sandusky as a reference point was fascinating.  One of the hosts seemed to indicate that maybe they should just never reference Sandusky again.  Then they mentioned that some announcer that they view as anti-PSU looks like a dead-ringer for Sandusky, almost as a joke.  The whole dynamic was weird.

As an aside, they spoke of Paterno without any trepidation other than to decry Paterno's teams as too conservative.  So they seem to be of the camp that gives Paterno a pass on the whole scandal.
