lack of accountability, fertilizing problems that grow out of control

At the risk of being sexist I think it's mostly because education is a female majority run system.  The men are greatly outnumbered.  This is an oversimplification, but in education you tend get more of the nurturing and caring side and less of the accountability and responsibility side.  Not always, but on average most of the men I've worked with push for more accountability and most of the women push for more support.  There are just way more female than male voices.

I don't get it, it seems like Luke's decision to go to Louisville was a mistake, evident by him promptly leaving.  This doesn't sound like sour grapes from Frost.  Why does Christian disagree?

It's funny to dunk on Scott Frost, and he gives lots of opportunity to do it these days, but he isn't wrong. Having a dad and older brother who were all pros made Luke think he was something he was not, and now instead of competing for a starting job at Nebraska he's going to be playing for Rice.

Frost's not wrong that we're going to get a few years of guys making really bad decisions until the new normal sets in and guys/their support system figure out that just because you can do something doesn't mean it's the right move for you.

Christian's "dunk" doesn't even make sense. Scott Frost transferred from one of the shittiest teams in major college football to *the* powerhouse program of the 90s. He didn't do a lateral transfer, figure out he couldn't play there, then transfer again to one of the most pathetic programs in D1.

Mpfnfu Ford,

how could you possibly know if having a pro dad and bro made Luke think he was something he was not.

How did you conclude that Luke made really bad decisions because his support system didn’t figure out that just because he could do something doesn’t mean he should?

I don’t think you have any personal knowledge of the situation. Your wild guesses in your post are only one possible version of what happened.

Just as likely neither Nebraska nor Louisville were a good place for Luke to be and his family, really knowledgeable about college football, coaches, and programs, helped him realize that truth as efficiently as could be done, and he moved on.

Guy transferred from a Power 5 school to another Power 5 school that has had roughly similar levels of success over the past 15 years but has a coach who is teetering over the edge of being fired because he slammed living in Louisville. Not a move most people would make. Transfers from that school after less than a few weeks, and that transfer coincides with not winning the starting job. Maybe he just hated Louisville and maybe Satterfield is bullshitting too, but that'd be an awful big coincidence considering he just transferred there after failing to win the Nebraska starting job.

If you want to play epistemological games about what we "know" have at it, but I'd rather make conclusions based on the information in front of me. if he just wanted to transfer to a high academic institution, why the couple week pitstop at a worse school than Nebraska that he thought had a starting job he should win (but didn't)? Obviously, he has someone giving him advice who doesn't know shit from apple butter because two different coaches who at least used to have good reputations for offense just told him he ain't good enough to start now.

Mpfnfu Ford,

You have no basis to say that because his Dad and bro are pros that he thinks anything about himself.  Beyond that, there are any number of reasons why Louisville could have looked attractive only to find out it wasn’t good.

My own experience suggests that coaches and others involved in recruiting lie so often and so big that it’s very tough to know the truth until you get there. Who knows what happened in Luke’s case, I suspect a huge number of transfers are a reaction to coaches misleading, and ultimately, mistreating players to the point where the player is best served to leave.

Don't throw shade at a former player. even by proxy.  This seems like a pretty easy standard to uphold.

That said, outside of awkward timing/phrasing he's right.  The portal is insane right now with players leaving after their freshman years because they're mad they're not on the two-deep.  It's a little crazy and I have a feeling there will be enough "The grass isn't always greener." moments to form some cautionary tales in this brave new world.  Equilibrium is coming, it's just going to take a minute.

I'm all for player freedom, but it'll be nice to see it get balanced against better judgment.

Frost also has no problem with his teammate illegally kicking a football and then whining that his team deserved a Natty.

My favorite team is Michigan and anybody that plays that douchebag. Especially ones that can outhit his team.
