MBB Recruiting: '17 3* G Brad Davison Offered

Submitted by ypsituckyboy on

Per multiple outlets, 3* SG Brad Davison was offered today. He's had a bit of a breakout summer on the very competitive EYBL circuit. averaging 17 pts and 4.3 assists. Most sites have him pegged at 6'3" or 6'4" (looks about 6'1" in most of the highlights though). Wisconsin is in hot pursuit, as is Stanford, Northwestern, Butler, and Dayton.

Looks like he'd be a 2-guard to start given his excellent shooting ability, and I'd assume they'd try to have him slide over as a backup PG at some point. Highlights below.

Let the Trevor Cooney comparisons begin.

The Cal Supreme team he put up these numbers against had a 5* PG Brandon Williams, 5* C/PF Brandon McCoy, & 5* C/PF DeAndre Ayton with offers from Zona, Kentucky, & Kansas (according to the teams web-site).  You can see all 3 of them in the video.  I know it's EYBL & summer ball, but 38 pts, 9 dimes, & 8 rebs is really good.  Throw the stars out the window!  He should get a serious bump when rankings are updated!

I hope we can keep him away from Wisky.  They recently offered and he said it was a "big one"

Good stroke. Great finish with the left. Looks quick enough. Just worried bout the level of competition. Could be Spike with an off the dribble pull up.

I'd be surprised if Davison was brought in as a SG, especially with Poole already in the class. We're going to take a PG in '17 anyway, I'm assuming that's the slot he'd fill in this class.

They're trying to fit someone in with the existing options at guard (Poole, Matthews, and X) who brings a combinatino of strengths that those three don't. Poole and Matthews probably aren't good options as backup point, but Davison could be. X probably can't play the 2 as effectively as Davison could. Davison is a better pure shooter than Matthews and X. Etc, etc.

I wouldn't be surprised if Davison played a few minutes a game at the 2, kind of like what Beilein did with Spike sometimes, but he's too small to play SG full time. He'd primarily be the backup for X at PG.

He looks exactly like the kind of player Beilein would offer. I thought he was serious when he said he was trying to increase athleticism on the team. Guess not.

Looks pretty quick and moves the ball well with those short arms. OK elevation but nice release on those jumpers. Good vision too. Maybe not the best athlete but could be a good distributor and spot-up shooter. "Spike Albrecht, only faster, taller, and better." - Fred Jackson

I'm okay with it, because we need a backup PG.  But then we really need to hit on the 4 spot.  And not an undersized 4 like Cain, but a true 4 like Kyle Young.

Beilein has a very good track record with versatile guards, but he's generally had the most success with pure points (Morris, Burke, Spike, Walton) and longer guard-wings  (Stauskas, Hardaway, Levert).

More of mixed bag with the combo guards.  Douglass was used this way but it was somewhat by default, Brundidge was one of the few busts, and Rahkman has exceeded expectations thusfar but doesn't pass.

Sounds like a rich man's Stu Douglass might be the best Michigan comp?

Intersting offer with Poole purported to be a combo guard also. It would be interesting to see if they could work 2 similar plays in side by side.  With Simpson around (and maybe still Rahkman too) I wouldn't worry about it.
