Mazi Smith storage unit auctioned off for nonpayment, inside were lots of merchandise, legos, a "playbook," etc.

I mentioned "playbook" only because the guy in the video said it was.  It looks more like Mazi's notes on certain plays, not really anything that is secret info.  Also in the unit were a gun safe and a box entitled "Missile Lane EOUS."

Tens of thousands of dollars worth of shoes and merch, but probably not all that important for a first-round draft choice.  Big score for the auction winner.

For real, he didn't have any friends among the walk-ons or student assistants he could have sent a text to and said, "Hey, I got a storage unit with tons of merchandise in it.  It's all yours if you clean the unit."

Guessing he just forgot about it.

After 15-20 years of adulthood depending on how you're calculating, hauling all of my accrued stuff to a storage facility and then stiffing them on the rent and letting it disappear sounds like living the dream.

Always blows my mind when people lose their storage units even though they have the money to pay the late fees OR the contents of the unit would pay off the cost of fees plus leftover cash.

I have family who let my great grandmas unit be sold off even though they knew she kept money and antiques inside of it. They also took her jewelry to a.....pawn shop.

Mazi might have thought "Oh well Ive got a nice NFL contract so it doesnt matter" but that's not a good way to look at money.

Maybe he thought someone else was taking care of it for him.

I owned part of a storage facility about 10 years ago, and would work there two days a week.  One day a guy came in with all of his belongings.  He was going to jail for 12 months, and said he would be sending money to a friend every month who would come in and pay.  After two months, the guy stopped coming.   Because I knew the circumstances, I waited an extra 60 days before auctioning it off, and when we did, I separated the photo albums and a few items that looked personal and set them aside.  It turns out the guy was paying his "friend",  who was just pocketing the money,  When he got out of jail and came in 13 months later, I had to tell him everything he owned was gone.  The guy actually broke down and cried, but at least I was able to give him some personal items.  Ugh.
