Marlon Mack offered

Submitted by Magnus on

Sarasota (FL) Booker running back Marlon Mack was offered yesterday. He decommitted from UCLA. It seems like something could be brewing...

I'd say we ought to take BOTH Jones and Mack.  Otherwise, we just have Green, Smith, Johnson, and Hayes as scholarship RB's.  We'd still have Houma and Shallman also, but at FB.  To me, that's kind of light especially if there's an injury or two.  So, getting at least one of the two is a must.  And we'd still have Norfleet too if need be to fill in as a 3rd down back.

They'll both be visiting the same weekend. Mack has visits to Louisville and UCLA scheduled, so not a guarantee that we will get him if Jones heads elsewhere

Does anyone have any opinions on how Mack looks as a prospect? I have only recently heard all the buzz around Jones because of the UA game. Does Mack play saftey in highschool, along with runningback? The reason I ask that is because of the suggestions that he could possibly switch possitions if needed.

I don't know how this guy is supposed to fit into our offense. We can't have Devin, Devin, De'veon, Derrick, Drake, Da'Mario, Dennis and.......Marlon.

6 feet 190-195 pounds with a "long" looking 6 foot frame. I think his frame will allow him to get to 210 easy, which is nice(whether that is at RB or S). It's pretty obvious to see he's quite a raw talent at this point and his technique/fundamentals/coaching needs improved like yesterday(but that's the case for many HSers). His raw and overall athletic ability is pretty freaking good though I'd say. Good explosion, good overall speed(good acceleration and can still run away). NOT great speed or that elite top gear though(his class in Florida isn't the highest exactly). From all the film I've watched, I like how he runs physical and how he utilizes the stiff arm, which I think is GREAT for a RB! Has good agility and some smooth cuts. Deceptive and shows ability to run through arm tackles. Needs coaching though for sure, and a redshirt, no matter if he is at RB or S. Shows good things at S. Very good closing speed and natural reactions(not much technique at all, worse than on O). Once again, shows the want to be physical and will hit you. I like that. I also like he can run, and I'd be interested seeing him as a finished product 3-4 years from this current date.

He is very much in the mold of Tenpenny or more currently Yeldon.  He has an acceleration that is significantly more than HS film of current M running backs (not their's is bad or they are bad - I like Green and Smith).

He could easilly fill out to 215 ish which is great.  When you think about more inside zone you would like this type of runner definately.

Mack's highlights on defense are pretty impressive so we may be looking to take him AND Jeff Jones.  Start them both out at RB and have safety as a .... safety net.

as much as I do he would have committed at birth. Surprise me but I"m not going for the trick bag. We need true blue bloods.

Nothing to do with Jones... But instead Something to with a lack of confidence in Harris sticking? I know it's two different classes, and I'm not sure of big rules on posting this, but Maize & Brew had quotes from Kinnel who said his conversations with Harris left him feeling Damien will decommit soon.

Just looking at Damien Harris's twitter and he took down his commit phrase under his main picture. I believe it said something "Michigan Commit" but no longer there. Any ideas?

I wonder if Mack offer was solely due to nussmeier and bringing alabamas talent assessments on their second and third options. This is how dantonio got strong by teaming with tressel on their leftovers.

Just watching him play in highlights, I think his speed projects more to S than it does to RB.  He's shifty enough to be a D1 RB, but I'm not sure it's at UM.  His first step is strong, but first step out of a cut when not close to full speed, not as much.  A 235 pound RB can get away with some of that, a 190 guy who might max out at 205 can't.
