Magic Johnson...

Submitted by jmblue on
seriously needs to find something else to do with his time than keep on latching on the MSU basketball program. The guy retired from the NBA (for the second time) 13 years ago. He last played college basketball 30 (!) years ago. At some point you move on with your life. How many members of the current MSU team actually watched Magic play an NBA game live?

Are you seriously telling Magic to stop "latching" onto a basketball program that he played for 30 years ago...on a blog dedicated to Michigan football...where the vast majority of readers never played for UM? Magic needs something better to do? really?

you're kidding right? do you know how rich the guy is? obviously he's been doing other things...that might be one of the dumbest posts i've ever read

I'm fully aware that he's an extremely rich businessman now. But that just makes the whole "Hey, it's a surprise visit from Magic!" motivational shuck that much sillier.

If you knew anything, you'd know that Magic has been a very successful entrepreneur in an array of business contexts. Plus, he's from Lansing and it's always nice to see a guy take interest in where he came from. MSU is a great program with a lot of history and has a great team this year. Instead of trying to tear them down for illogically myopic reasons, why not just root for them? I love the way Izzo coaches and the way his teams play. In short, shut the hell up, kid.

First, your hostility is entirely unwarranted. Second, you are drawing a lot of arbitrary assumptions (1 - about my age; 2 - that I know nothing about his business background; 3 - that I am rooting against MSU) from a post that mentioned nothing of the sort. Of course he has a right to cheer for them. It's the continually trotting him out for every big game for "surprise" motivational speeches that's gotten ridiculous. They got the speech from him in last year's tourney, and the year before, and the year before...

Fuck Tom Harmon. I'm glad he's not around anymore. That way he can't latch onto our program. Fuckin' coattail rider. I bet there are a lot of people here who never saw Bo Schembechler coach a game. I sure am glad he's not around anymore. "Oh, look at me, I'm Bo Schembechler! I won a bunch of Rose Bowls! Look at me!" Shut the fuck up, loser. Find something better to do.

ridiculousness of the original post. But "Oh, look at me, I'm Bo Schembechler! I won a bunch of Rose Bowls! Look at me!" really made me laugh. Perhaps you were being sarcastic (which I don't get) but 2 wins in 10 Rose Bowls really isn't a bunch of wins.

This is the dumbest post I have ever read on Mgoblog and I've read my fair share of N number of reposts, The Knowledge, Mcfarlin or whatever his name is, Jmkgoblue or whatever his name is, etc etc etc. Magic is a basketball legend. He went to State. He is supporting the program on the national stage in DETROIT. He is not calling attention to himself because he is selfish. Attention is being brought on Magic because of who he is. He is not a person who can walk into the Final Four venue and go unnoticed. Good lord.

Dude thinks just because he's one of the greatest NBA players ever and just happened to win a national title at MSU he has the right to still be associated with their program? I mean, yeah he should be able to go to the games and root for them, but does he have to call so much attention to himself about it? I know that the media and alumni of MSU and every other human being who knows anything about basketball wouldn't let him just go to a basketball game as a fan, but this is why he needs to get a realistic mask to wear to the games that will disguise his identity so that he can go to the games, and not burden me with having to see him.

I'm actually surprised they aren't showing him more. Only a couple of times unless I've missed some. They showed Blake Griffin's parents more times than that in 5 minutes. This game has been refreshingly free of any parents come to think of it...Hooray big arenas I guess.

post and subsequent post after...nothing more needed to say! I only wish Michigan former greats could have the camera pan on them, while our team is playing. Perhaps in the near future...otherwise,I don't see what is wrong for Magic cheering for sparty. After all he led them to a NCAA championship.

Larry Bird is always in attendance at the Indiana State Games. He also would be in the locker room if they had one. I think.

As much as I hate MSU (not the players, but their arrogant, history-rewriting fans), Magic still gets a free pass AFAIC. MSU's basketball program was nothing until Magic got there. Because he actually won an NCAA Championship, he may have had a greater impact on MSU than Cazzie Russell did on UM. Until Izzo took advangage of the Ed Martin scandal gift-wrapping instate recruiting for him, MSU had done nothing of note without Magic. Magic should get a seat behind the bench for any game he wants for the rest of his life. And the boats and hos/Craven M. comment about HIV is the kind of thing I would expect to see in an OSU or WVU blog; I hope he gets banned in this identity, too.

Dear jmblue, please edit this and remove your post. I think this thread makes Michigan fans look like jackasses. Imagine if an MSU fan or other non-Michigan links to this site and this is the first content from mgoblog that someone sees. What kind of impression is that? People have jokingly responded to this using Bo as an example, but think how you would respond if someone actually made that thread on an msu blog. I don't know that any mods should delete this, because it is your opinion (epinion?) and you are entitled to it. I'm not telling you to remove this, I'm asking you to as one Michigan fan to another. Honestly, though, this threads true home is on mlive.

Magic Johnson is a legend, one of the greatest players in the history of basketball, and the speech he gave the night before was awesome-- you see how inspired those State guys were? You suck

Uh huh, riiight. Using your logic, the same thing applies to Ricky Leach, who last played college football 30 years ago, but here he is hanging around the UM football program, and will participate in the flag football game next Saturday at the spring game. Why doesn't he move on with his life, right? Same goes for all the other alumni football players who are coming back for the game. In fact, that means that homecoming games should be immediately canceled, since they exist solely for alums who graduated 10, 20, 30 years ago and more to come back and hang around. Why don't they move on with their lives? I expect an outraged post from you just before the Indiana game next season on just that topic. The nerve of former Wolverines to show up on campus, it's shameful.
