MAAR's clutch FTs give him 1,000 career points

Submitted by Rico on

Congrats to Muhammad-Ali on reaching 1,000 career points with the game-winning free throw. Steady in the big moment and has been a steady player the last 4 years. Not bad for the former 2 star, 434th ranked player in the country. A few people that called him terrible in his Hello post eating crow by now.

which is amazing considering shooting is considered to be his weakness when he first committed to Michigan. Chalk it up to his work ethic and JB's development. Not bad for a guy who was considered to be Plan C and a last minute offer. He has become one of the most important player on the team.

He may not be a featured scorer but he is a great complimentary scorer. Can hit 3s off the catch, can drive to the hoops and takes care of the ball.

Teams can recruit all the 5*'s they want, but these guys are the glue that makes good teams great.

He's been a huge piece to the puzzle these last two years. Gotta love Beilein finding these guys that fit his system.

I’ve always thought that MAAR goes way under appreciated. He has such a great knack for getting to the rim and scoring. He just does it in a not so
flashy way and I think that makes people overlook him. We will miss him next year !

Has it going. Something different in the air. I don’t feel super afraid we’re gonna lose all the time with this squad. Even after huerter hit that 3 I turned to my girl and said “I feel like something crazy is about to happen” Love this team

He's really displayed great leadership. Clutch FT's, steady influence. Takes it strong to the hole and hustles. Really like his game.

his composure was remarkable, we are going to miss his consistency and well roundedness next year. But, the future is still bright with incoming talent! I told everyone to wait until Jan before passing any judgements, I'll toot my own horn at this point. Great to get the win and keep the momentum going after burning down Breslin

HAIL!

No one ever talks of MAAR making to the NBA.  He seems like a great glue guy that plays D, makes passes, doesn't turn the ball over, hits free throws and can drive or hit shots when needed.  If he could play the point at 6-4 I don't see why he couldn't have a shot at it.

To combine with this talent, this is the part I’m most worried about. Where’s the upper classmen leadership gonna come from? Simpson and Matthews only juniors on the team and neither can afford to be on the court at the end.

Take notes, Simpson. MAAR bailed you out tonight.

MAAR may not have the “ceiling” of some of the other guys on this team, but when the chips are down, you want to have a senior to look to who’s been through the ringer, who’s seen it all, and knows how to deliver.

MAAR nutted up tonight and saved his team. That’s what seniors do.

It is crazy to me that MAAR is already a Senior, it feels like just yesterday he was a freshman and thinking how good he was going to be. He has had a great career. He also will be the only player of his 6 man recruiting class to stay all 4 years. Granted, DJ wilson went to the draft so he doesn't really count. Doyle transfered, Chatman transferred, Dawkins transferred, and Hatch unfortunately had injury issues. I remember being extremely excited for Chatman, and he just was not that good unfortuantely. MAAR is the last man standing, and while I don't think he'll get much time in the NBA, he definitely will be able to continue his basketball career and do well in Europe if he wants.

This era of Michigan basketball is so incredibly fun. Great teams, playing smart basketball, with almost all players developing. MAAR is such a great Beilein player. Came from nowhere to be effective from the very early, and yet was also able to improve each year. MAAR is incredibly consistent.

This program has it, and if he isn't clearly yet, Beilein will retire from UM unqestionably the best coach in our history. If we can get a quality successor, Beilein will be UM basketball's Schembechler.
