NFL Media Still Thinks Harbaugh Will Return to the League

Link to a tweet from this morning...Will it ever end

Having Harbaugh as our coach is like having good looking girlfriend or wife.  It's awesome but at some point you realize that a lot of other dudes are constantly checking her out.  You just have to get used to it and trust that she chose you and will stick wtih you even when a "better offer" comes along cause those "better offers" come along constantly.

This will be our situation every year with every NFL team that is considering a HC change as long as he's our HC.  We're just going to have to get used to it and trust that Harbaugh loves Michigan and is going to stay with us.  Cause he's going to get a LOT of offers to leave.

"Better offers"?  How frequently are the married women of Michigan being propositioned?  This happens quite often to my girlfriend, but she lives in Miami where general scumminess is expected.  I would have hoped a more genteel culture still existed in the midwest.

don't be so obtuse.

He never said anything about the married women of Michigan.  I think you just wanted to work in a way to mention that your girlfriend lives in Miami for some reason.  Seems like you don't live in Miami, so yea, she's probably getting stuck by those scummy dudes propositioning her.

Quite frequently with mine.  She is an ultrasound tech and has had guys that she is scanning hit on her.  She also gets hit on damn near any time she goes out with the girls.  I'm very glad that I trust her as much as I do, as I haven't had that same trust with some of the girls I've dated in the past.

All young or semi-young women with some level of desireability (outwardly and internally) are checked out and "offered" regardless of their maritial or relationship status.  I'd say the same is true for menfolk.  People get other offers (and sometimes take them) all the time. If you got options you got options. It's life.  As for Harbaugh, he ain't leaving Michigan til he's returned it to glory (B1G titles, playoff appearances, loaded roster and talent pipeline and system established). Only then would he even consider it, but that's at minimum 5-6 years away, and even then unlinkely IMHO.

My better half tells me all the time about what random idiots say to her. Marriage proposals, corny pickup lines, studdering attempts at flirting... you name it. I don't mind, because she's mine and I'm a pretty secure guy.

The funny thing is when we're together and I catch some asshole checking her out. They always immediately look down, or away, or whatever. Ha ha guys, you can't have her!

The last girl that left me caused me to decide on a whim to move to Ohio.  I realized that when she left, I had nothing tying me to Michigan, and I had an opportunity in Columbus that I ended up taking.  Yup.  I was in a rough place... BUT -

It ended up being a great decision.  I was able to basically restack my chips completely.  I wasn't really running from anything, but I found it refreshing to kind of start over.

Similar situation took me from South Dakota to Oklahoma. Now I'm happily married to a lovely Oklahoman with more blessings than I deserve.

And NOW in 27 years I get to watch Michigan play in Norman!!! Life is great.

Truth. Basically, every successful coach is the subject of rumors every year. There are still rumors about Gruden every year, and it has taken a owner almost ten years of not being interested for the rumors to die down. Even Pete Carroll, who wasn't great in his first go-rounds in the NFL, got talked about every year until he left.

Maybe we can get a swinger thing going on. Give Harbaugh to Indy for a game, we bring in Belichick that week. Spice up the playbook a little. Harbaugh still loves us, he just wants a chance to coach other guys every now and then. Some of them block a little better than us, after all. He's too good a coach to be tied down to one team. Share his enthusiasm with the world, its the right thing to do.

This kind of speculation might make sense a few years down the road if Harbaugh has done well here. But I can't imagine he'd be willing to burn his bridges with so many friends and former teammates by leaving after one year or even a few years.

I also don't think he'd leave after just the one year, but I get the sense that Jim wants more from his return to A2 than just a simple homecoming. He seems to be looking, from the throwback uniforms, helmet stickers and thin M hats all the way to sending his kids to his old school and buying a house on Bo's street, to recreate his own childhood for his kids. Sarah was quoted in the SI writeup that she thinks Jim kind of thought when he got to Ann Arbor it would be just like it was in the 70's.

I would not be at all surprised if, over time, a sense of "you can never go home again" develops. I'm fully prepared to take the negbang for this and I'm obviously hoping this is just my natural pessimism shining through, but it's my biggest JH related fear.

So I go down and stand there with him and I said, “Jimmy, you know what? This Warren Pierce comes on and talked about how big you are around here, and I told him, 'There's no coach, there's no player bigger than Michigan Football!'”

Jimmy looked at me and said, “Jon, don't they understand?! It's a privilege, it's an honor to coach for Michigan!” He said, “They don't understand. People don't understand. It's not that. We're trying to do everything we can to bring Michigan back. That's what we're here for.”

That's what Jimmy Harbaugh is here for.

I've worked for five coaches. I worked for Bo, Mo, Lloyd, then Rich and then Brady. And now, I told Jimmy, I said, “Look, Jimmy—I'll do anything you want me to do. You don't even have to give me a dime,” I said. “I'm just here to help Michigan Football.”

And he said, “That's right.”

Were many of you at the game last week? About three weeks ago, two weeks ago, Jimmy called me into his office and said, “I want to show you something.” So he shows me that video before the team comes out on the field. And I don't know if you all saw that or not but in that video he had me with the Little Brown Jug in it. And I cried!

I looked at him and said, “Jimmy! I appreciate that!”

He said, “Jon! You worked for Michigan Football for forty years! You deserve that!” And he said, “You deserve everything, and I'll make sure you get taken care of.”

That's the type of guy we've got for a football coach at Michigan. And I'm really proud of that.

From Falk's interview on 247sports. The NFL media will never get it!

Harbaugh turned down MORE MONEY HERE because he didn't want to be the highest paid coach in college football. "There are more important things than money. One of them is Michigan" -Bo

Tellingly, the speculation is all about money. No sources at all, just whether or not there is a financial offer that can't be refused. I could see Harbaugh leaving someday, but not over money. There are enough well-to-do fans invested in him staying to match any offer (remember how plausible the $8 mil figure was? Still is). The issue is whether or not he decides he has unfinished NFL business left on the table and whether or not there is a "good situation." And here the timing is crucial, because it's only one year. I highly doubt the NFL has any serious mind space yet. And that's good, because Indy, where he was Captain Comeback, and Andrew Luck, who he joyed to coach in college, would be very attractive. Like, Super Bowl next year attractive. I doubt he'll leave before his first recruits graduate, but if he did, that's the kind of place he'd go.

Michigan football has been making money and we haven't even won a championship since 2004. When we start winning with Harbaugh, the athletic department will be making more money than they know what to do with (especially with the new TV deal coming from the B1G). They could honestly match any offer from the NFL. It will never come down to money!

interviews JH has stated that he'd like to put down some roots here.. have his kids grow up in a college town, like he did.  He's obviously quite nostagic about things (same street as Bo, etc). and moving all the time has to get tiresome.

There aren't many things you can't do with 5-6M a year you can do with 7-8M a year.  This is more than a money hunt this time for him I think.  I honestly believe that he will be here for the long term - 10-15+ years.
