So far it’s been Incubus: A Crow Left of the Murder, Modest Mouse: Good News for People who love bad news, and Interpol: Antics.

The New Danger by Mos Def dropped that year too. Man this is fun going back down memory lane. Early 2000s were simpler times.

Apathy’s Where’s your album? Not exactly his best work but he’s pretty much been the best pure rapper in the world for the past 15 years or so. The short track “ Checkmate “ fits todays mood in particular. The Represent and 7 nation army tracks are pretty sick too.
Loved JMT back in the day, when Vinnie was the Hologram. VBD is an obvious all time classic but The Psycho Social album is so unique and underrated.

This song is one of the most uplifting songs I've ever heard. We've all been through hell but now we're back from hell.
I was first in line at solipsistic sad guy seminar
But inside it just turned out to be another bar
I ordered a whiskey neat 50,000 times in the summer heat
I figure this is how i'll defeat my victories
We couldn't say good bye so we practice every weekend until we die
But even then it didn't seem quite right
I could play ham blues
Or any genre that could fix old me and you
So I was about to start a song that never ends
But inside the bridge I found a note I left to myself
Saying don't forget to love yourself
And don't forget to come back from hell
And don't forget to end the song

Yeah...not a great year for tunes....
One of my few faves from this year is Detroit's own Slum Village - Reunion

Lots of emo Fall Out Boy bullshit from 2004, 1997 would be better

Now that it's the next day and we're B1G Conference Champs, it may be time to focus on music from 1997 now...if you get my drift.
Since the Rose Bowl technically happened in 1998, I'd recommend Neutral Milk Hotel. If you look up songs from 1997, there's a lot of awful music (boy bands).

2004 was actually an alright year for indie rock. However, to get in front of it, might I suggest listening to music solely from 1997?

I'm listening to songs from 1997.
Be prepared.

It occurs to me I might not have said it So I'll say it now
"Michigan, You make me proud"

2004 was when my favorite Mastodon album, Leviathan, was released. Also, Velvet Revolver’s Contraband was excellent and Slipknot’s Vol. 3 has some big singles. Looking at a list, Ashes of the Wake by Lamb of God is a good album that I’d forgotten about. Meshuggah’s I is a fun experiment. On the other hand the Exodus and BLS albums from that year sucked and those are both bands that I like. Pig Destroyer and Behemoth and very critically acclaimed albums, but my mileage varied— I’ve always kind of thought bands like Pig Destroyer just sound like shit and then convince people that is intentional.
