Lets Talk Super Bowl - Will You Watch? Who Wins?

Submitted by xtramelanin on February 6th, 2021 at 7:35 AM

Mates,

Tomorrow is the last football game of the season, the Super Bowl.  Of course we all know that our own Tom Brady, the GOAT, will be QB'ing the Bucs and I would imagine this board will tilt very heavily in favor of Tampa Bay.  That said, the Chiefs are 3 point favorites and with their talent and speed, I can see a KC blow-out in this one if TB doesn't score early and often, and if they can't track down Tarik Hill and TE Travis Kelce

Some of the season long numbers:          KC                        TB

Points Per Game                                      29.6                      30.8

Points Allowed Per Game                        20.5                       23.0

Total Yards                                               425.3                     393.4

Yards Passing                                          312.8                     298.5

Yards Rushing                                          112.4                     94.9

Yards Allowed                                           366.0                     366.3

Pass Yards Allowed                                   245.5                    280.7

Rush Yards Allowed                                  120.5                     85.7

Of note, KC's last 5 games include a season-ending (Henne at QB) loss and three very thin-margin wins.  TB's last 5 were all wins, including the 47-7 beat down to a certain allegedly pro team located in Detroit.  For TB all but one game of those last 5 was on the road but for the first time the Super Bowl will be played in one of the team's true home stadium (LA was close, but not quite).

Lastly, many folks roll out a special menu or make a party out of the game.  Obviously with Covid that'll be substantially different, but even at home or in small groups some might still make a special event out  of it.

So today's questions are:

1.  Will you watch the game, and if so, will you do anything special about dinner menus, a family gathering, anything like that?

2.  Who are you picking to win this one?  I would suppose for many our hearts will pick Tampa Bay, but our heads will pick KC, but maybe not.

Have a great Saturday.  Get outside (even if it's cold) and enjoy the day.

I think the game is a fairly compelling tossup and will definitely watch.

As far as who I'm rooting for, since my primary interest will be the food, I'm rooting loudly for the Chefs.

GO CHEFS! (I have been promised lobster rolls and deluxe nachos)

Well, I'm a BIT hoity-toity. Sitting out any get-togethers this year for the obvious reason, but the significant other has made promises. I may or may not have added the word "deluxe" on my own, honestly I can't remember now.

I will be taking the Chiefs in my family playoff pool with 62 combined points as my tiebreaker number.

Mahomes and company have such great synergy, I'm just shocked that CEH hasn't gelled as well as expected in that system.

If #15 isn't MVP I look for a random skill player like Darrel Williams or Sammy Watkins to take the award.

I wonder if those dynamic linebackers from Tampa can disrupt some plays and get some takeaways. JPP has been playing well of late for their D. I have not checked in to see if the Buc safeties are healthier compared to two weeks ago.

Finally, although going back to the Gruden/Sapp era uniforms was an obvious upgrade, I wish we could see the cream sickle Bucco Bruce getups make a return a la the Rams from a few years ago.

No parties this year sadly although my lovely wife's sister will be joining us for the game as she has all season watching the Browns.  There's a local pizza place that's expensive as hell but awesome so I'll probably buy too much pizza and just leave it out.

I'm up $330 with my bookie for the year so my annual "thing" is to push it all on one bet for the Super Bowl - I either walk away with a few bucks or I'm even.  And i'm really torn on this one as my head says Chiefs easily but my heart really wants Brady & the Bucs.   Compounding my conundrum is a bias where I HATE betting on something I dont want to happen - i.e. taking the Chiefs and laying the three points.  So I might bet the points total (currently at a huge number 56) so I can root for Tom but be ok if the Chiefs win.

Decisions.....decisions.....

another way to think of betting against your 'true' interest is that if your favorite loses, the money takes the sting out of the loss?   my prediction is a 38-13 KC win.  i think the chiefs come out on fire and never look back.

IDK, probably just watching with my BFF Rose. I’m pulling for Tim Bradley and the Pirates to pull out a win vs that Farm Bureau guy with the weird haircut. It would be a glorious victory for the University of Mishawaka.

1) Of course I’m watching. One of the best QB matchups we’ve had in the Super Bowl in quite a while. We’ve got sliders, Buffalo chicken dip and beer cheese on tap for the game, with a few friends and their kids coming over.

2) Chiefs by a TD or less. I think the Bucs play a much better game than they did the last time they played the Chiefs, and I do think Brady helps the Bucs take a late lead, but Mahomes does his best Brady impersonation and wins it on the final drive of the game. We see a true passing of the torch. I’d like to see the Bucs win, and I do think they can win. They have a better defense and one that is playing great at the right time, and they might be the only team in the NFL that has the horses, on offense, to compete with what the Chiefs throw out there. I think they have a more complete team, top to bottom, than the Chiefs, but of the top 4-5 players on the field for either team on Sunday night, I think the Chiefs have at least 3-4 of them. They’ve got the best QB in the game, arguably the best WR, and without question the best TE. All difference makers on any given play.

For the Bucs to win, they’ve got to have a couple things break their way. Not a ton of things where it’s an insurmountable or unreasonable ask, but a couple, and they’ll need a few lucky breaks on defense. Big sacks, takeaways (which they’ve been phenomenal at forcing of late), etc. The Chiefs have to just keep doing what they’ve been doing, and their defense just needs to not have a bad night. They can have an average night and give up a few big plays, and as long as Mahomes is Mahomes, they should still win.

35-31 Chiefs

I don’t know if it’s in disarray per se, but If there is an area where Tampa has to capitalize on a mismatch to level the playing field, it’s their DL vs. KC’s OL. Tampa’s DL has been amazing at getting pressure this year, and that was even without Vita Vea. Now he’s back and close to full strength, if not full strength. Just this massive, space eating DT who can command double teams and let Suh/JPP/Barrett do their thing. He was on a limited snap count at Green Bay and you could still see how much his presence helped, as Rodgers was constantly under duress.

No way they’ll shut down Mahomes completely, but if they can stall him enough times and get the ball back to Brady, that could be all the difference.

I notice that you refer to green Bay as "Green Bay" but Tampa bay as just "Tampa" (which is, of course, very common and maybe even the more common).  Anyone have a picture of the Tampa Bay scoreboard where they trolled Green Bay for using "Tampa" on the Green Bay scoreboard and just listed "Green" as the visiting team?  My Google-fu isn't good enough to find it.  I'm pretty sure it was the Buc's first year in the league.

I'm not gigging you, your post just reminded of a funny incident.

1. I am definitely watching. For me and my wife, Super Bowl Sunday is basically our second favorite holiday (behind Thanksgiving, the other holiday about football and food). The menu is all foods that can be eaten on the couch watching the game: Q1 will be homemade pigs in a blanket and 2 types of wings. Midway through Q2 is the main meal of homemade mini-empenedas and ribs. And after halftime is dessert of homemade chocolate chip cookies. My wife is a ridiculously good cook so that’s part of the fun of the day for us.

2. KC is the more talented team and on paper should win. But, it’s hard to pick against TB12 I the Super Bowl. He just finds a way to get it done. Plus, I think that KC’s tackles are both out, which can make a difference. I’m picking TB - not sure if it’s more heart or head.

Definitely will be watching. No parties but my wife is making lasagna and we will watch together. Chiefs missing their starting tackles will be the difference in the game, Tampa will get consistent pressure and Brady will lead the way one again to a 31-21 victory.

Watching at a friend's house. They're setting up a hot dog bar but since they don't like Chicago dogs, those supposedly won't be an option. It's causing some infighting in the group since a few of us love Chicago dogs. We've decided to bring the appropriate Chicago dog accoutrements  ourselves which will likely be seen as a breach of etiquette, but screw it.

Bucs are going to win it.

We will watch for at least the first quarter while consuming copious amounts of hot wings.    That's all this game really is for my family.   Just an excuse to make hot wings.    I'll probably drop off by halftime and curl up on the couch with the dog and devour a thought-provoking book. High temp in Madison, WI will peak in the low single digits, so it's great couch lounging with a warm blanket weather.

My game prediction:  KC wins.   This prediction is based on nothing in particular.

Definitely watching. I’m making a ton of appertizers: southwestern egg rolls, regular egg rolls, queso, cauliflower hot wings, homemade guac and salsa with tamarind margaritas. Cheering for Brady, but looking at this game as the changing of the guard in regards to QB eras. I’m a lukewarm yet do-or-die Lions fan, so I’m just cheering for Michigan players, so if the Chiefs win, that’s five wolverines winning.

Hoping for a good game and that both teams have a lot of fun.

I'll probably look in for a little bit, see if it's close late.

I'm happy, in this case, with almost any result. I like to see Black qbs succeed, and Brady is of course my Michigan guy. If he doesn't win he's still the GOAT.

EDIT: Might be an excuse to get my daughter some wings.

I'll watch. Nothing fancy, no party, maybe some fried chicken, oven-roasted potatoes, and a few ice-cold 7 and 7's.

KC is innovative and entertaining as hell on offense and if they are clicking, they'll score a lot. Brady seems to be showing his age and his turnovers are concerning.  I think the Chiefs win by 14.

1. Yes, just the wife, daughter, and myself. Usually we have the in-laws over. Making a couple different kinds of wings.

2. I want Tampa to win, I want there to be no doubt and it to be impossible for anyone to catch him as the goat. But man Kansas City is good, especially with Reid playing with house money now, going for it on fourth down with Henne proves how much confidence he has in his team. I still think the speed of Tampa’s d will slow them enough.

Going to a buddy’s house for lean meat and greens.  We started the TB12 diet.

Chiefs in a close one but I really, really would like Brady to win one more.

And when I’m president, I’m going to make the Monday after the Super Bowl - National Tom Brady Day, every Brady and UM football fan get a paid day off.  Except for the Lions organization, they have to work regardless.

I have a bunch of free money coming regardless of the outcome. There have been some nice promotions for online betting now that it’s legal. I’ll win $250 if the chiefs win (which I think they will). I also have a small free bet on the bucs and a few different prop bets. I’ll also get $100 of a TD is scored by either team lol

I am rooting for TB, which in this case is Tom Brady and Tampa Bay.  7 out of 10 Super Bowls would be amazing.

This is also the first time I participated in "Super bowl Squares" as a fund raiser for my daughter's soccer team.  If one of the quarters or game ends with TB have a score ending in a 7 and KC score ending in a 0, I get $100.  I am rooting for that too.

I'll be enjoying pizza, homemade hot wings, assorted other appitizers---and a few beers ???---at my daughter and son-in-laws home near Kalamazoo, driving down there around noon and staying overnight.

Tough one to pick. If I bet, it's only going to be a little fun money on a few gimmick bets and maybe on the over/under. I'm thinking over right now.  But I'll definitely be rooting for TB and TB all the way.
