Go for 2

What happened at Texas Tech I can't speculate on.  It seems like he has always been a coaching outsider.  But if you ever see his schemes - he is the passing equivalent of RR.  He gets people one on one in space, and dares your secondary to cover his fast small guys and keep up the pace.   People may have forgotten, but Randy Walker did the same thing at Northwestern and was very successful.

Unlike others, the Big Ten being the Big Two and everyone else was actually not good for the league.  The fact that other teams have developed and become real teams in their own right is important and makes overall competition better.   It is what is forcing Michigan to be better.  I would love to see Minnesota be something other than an automatic win.  I would love Minnesota to GO FOR 2 on wisconsin up by 28 points and have Leach say something like, "Card?  What Card?  I just hate that assface and wanted to punk him.  I don't see a single thing wrong with that".  It's what Minnesota as a team needs.

Having said all that, my guess is Gary Patterson is a better candidate and possibly better coach for the job.  He has experience building a balanced team in an area where recruiting from Texas run off is your only chance to field competition.  He would be a great hire for them.  Not sure if they can get him though....

I think Minnesota and Leach would be a good fit.  If Mark Richt somehow became available, I would jump all over him if I was Minnesota.  We're not going to have a coaching vacancy, but if we did, I'd have been interested in Richt for our own program.  Otherwise, I can't think of anyone making a bigger splash than Leach.

Envisioning other openings that might be open, I could see a school like Washington State being very interested in Leach (they have to fire their coach considering he's 4-28, and 1-21 in conference since he's been there), but I'd think there would be a better position for him available.  If Dennis Erickson is fired, I think he'd be a great fit at Arizona State.  His offense would fit in perfectly in the Pac-10, and I'd love to see him team up with Steven Threet.

Leach isn't a good fit for Minnehaha or anywhere else in the Big Ten.  He needs to go to either the SEC or some relatively small program in another conference.

....from a Michigan fan I dont want to see him every year.

If we got lucky in Indiana with their passing game, we would have gotten killed with a Leach-led passing game this year.

Minnesota will never compete year and year out in the B10 without a coach that is BIGGER than the program. And they arent going to find that kind of coach unless he has some baggage.

I know it's not going to happen, but I just wonder what him and RichRod could cook up together.  Of course, that would mean he wouldn't go all Mike Martz and call four running plays in an entire half.

I don't get Sirius/Xm etc. but have heard that Leach has a show on there.  We all know he talks out of his ass and loves pirates, but has anyone ever heard that show to see if it is actually good?  I mean its probably entertaining, but not sure what else it would be.

ture, different ethos. If they bring Leach in and more f-ups ensue, whoa. Just too risky right now, from an admin POV, whatever you think of Leach. (Personally, I find him pretty fun, and obviously a good coach. But some of the players were real happy he left, so I agree w. those who say the story was multifaceted and lots, likely, remained unreported.) I'm also QUITE happy if Minn. doesn't bring in some offensive mastermind, thanks.

They would be considered insane not to hire him.  I lived in Texas for 8 years during his Texas Tech rise. He brought that school from obscurity to BCS using players that Texas, Oklahoma and even A & M didn't want. Plus energized the fan base by giving the program an identity.

A different approach is what is called for at Minnesota. The issues regarding recruit perception and available talent seem pretty similar to Tech.

He can even go viking rather than pirate.

If the hiring goes down, the new division is looking like the gauntlet. No gimmes out of those teams.

I think he's a good coach, but he also benefited from being in the state of Texas and having that talent pool to recruit from.

Minnesota isn't exactly a recruiting hot bed.  It would be interesting to see how well he would do recruiting wise there.
