Late Late Night Open Thread

Against my better judgement, because we seem to have a ton of new posters (lockdown time?) that think Michigan should go old SMU/Miami style win at all costs, and apparently didn't really believe anything Bo or Lloyd preached (other than when it makes a good soundbyte or sig line or post reply), but there are enough reliable posters still up that it will save them some scrolling.

great post--was with you all the way until the "all in for Brady Hoke" part.

I'd like Mile's experience over that of Hoke, what if Hoke brought Loeffler, kept Barwis, re-hired Fred Jackson and hired a killer DC--that might work, right????

Maybe its just the tequila and Pearl beer, but this just doesnt feel as desperate as the old Haloscan days of MGoBlog during Coach Search #1 (the scars of which I still bear in my cotton pickin' maize and blue heart).

Funny how 3 years later and we all are dreading the candidate we were once begging for.

Seriously though, I think Les would be a good fit because unlike Hoke, he'll adapt to our personnel.  We'll still have denard as QB running a spread but can transition back to smash mouth football and strong defensive teams.

Is he ideal for me? No.  Do I think he's a 20 year coach for us? No.  But no one is these days, and I think he can restore us back to prominence and them maybe JH will be sick of the NFL and come home? (I can dream)

is that LM isn't the great coach people are saying he is...he's gifted with supreme talent.  I've never seen a coach with a more confused look on the sideline than him.

telling one of your QB's everythings cool while you know the whole time the letter is in the mail that he's no longer part of the team...that's pretty bad

You guys are missing the big picture here. By trading Harbaugh for Miles, DB has succeeded in avoiding the horror of stickers on our glorious winged helmets.

My friends and I talked to two nice girls on chatroulette for 2 hours and didn't know how to part ways so we showed them my dick and facebook stalked them.

I am ambivalent about Miles.  Same with Hoke.  The problem is that you can't predict the future.  You would hate to miss out on Hoke if he turns out to be a great coach.  Hoke's current resume is better than Harbaugh's was at the time we hired RR.  Harbaugh wasn't even considered at the time, and now, he won't be coming here despite us desperately wanting/needing him.

That Stoops actually contacted DB. They may meet on Monday!  Bo Peneli is another interested coach even though he brushed it off.  May be another Bo in our future?  Don't be surprised if we end up with a top coach by the end of next week. More coaches want to coach at Michigan than anyone realizes.  I think we will all be surprised by who ends up here, and it most likely will not be Hoke or Miles!

I wonder if our bickering is similar to what the Cardinals endure prior to sending up that white smoke plume???

(except I doubt if they are half-bombed at the time)

I had a Buckeye tell me once he could do a year standing on his head--true story.  Same dude also told me "ya'all  got nothing to play for, best to let us all win to get to the national championship"  that was 1995 shortly before the Tim's miracle massacre.

6.5 is another story--it'll go fast for us, you be assured of that.

Here are our some of our late night LSU counterparts musings.  I hear us in many of these.

"Les Miles is LSU's winningest coach(win %). Why would we ever fire him? He has basically earned the ability to retire here if he likes. All this whining about his contract is just stupid. His success dictates a top salary."  [Let him go!  We will not let you go!  Let him go!]

"Clearly whether Miles leaves or not all comes down to one thing: Is the grass greener on the other side? A man's gotta eat." [hilarious]

"Personally, I think it is a ploy by Miles' camp to get a better deal from LSU..." [oooh, the conspiracist]

"You can hold onto 2005-2007 as much as you want, it doesn't erase 8-5 and 9-4." [But he gave us 1997; yes, but also "The Horror"]

It's so funny that an army of people are willing to slaughter Brady Hoke based entirely on Brian's unflattering opinion of him (which was largely formed 3 years ago, before Hoke had done anything of note), yet Brian's even lower opinion of Miles is dismissed by so many.

Did you ever stop to think that people are capable of parsing others opinions in order to form their own? Perhaps people have decided, for whatever reason, that Brian's is not the only opinion that matters to them?

I, for one, find Hoke to be distasteful as a candidate for a clear lack of evidence supporting his ability to win football games as Head Coach of Michigan. He has done nothing of significance at a major program as a HC, selected a questionable lateral move to SDSU and met some success there, and perhaps wants this job TOO much. Also, his notion of the spread being "basketball on grass" leads me to believe he is capable of Oregon and "The Horror" debacles.

Miles has proven conclusively that he can coach at a high level in two major conferences. He has the capability to coach spread-type players. He wins a lot of football games in "TEH ESS EEE CEE." He beat Ohio State to win a MNC.

Does he have flaws? Sure, all coaches do. But the major, institutional issues can and will be dealt with by a program terrified of more NCAA sanctions. He will not be allowed to oversign like he did at LSU. Furthermore, I believe Miles wants the job, but will not debase himself like Hoke will. A true Michigan Man, from what I've seen, will not demean himself even to further the institution. This includes making it clear you'd basically cuckold yourself for the program like Hoke has.

People seem to be confused about the nature of integrity, and that's a bit alarming.

The notion that DB can "reign in" a guy like Miles, a liar-cheater-thief type, is absurd. We can be like OSU and keep it under the radar perhaps, but then we are no better. A 60 year old guy is probably not going to have a true change of heart. So, he won't oversign, but he will find some other way to cheat the players, lie to them, or steal from their future opportunities. The possibilities are endless, and slime like that will find a way to seep into whatever cracks the system presents.

IF we get Miles, there's a good chance that he could right the ship under his watch. And perchance, in this time, Mr. Harbaugh could learn some humility after getting shellacked in the NFL, come to his senses and retire at Michigan when Miles' time is done. We deserve some good luck karma from the Angry Michigan Coach Search Hating God.

This came from his mouth to my ears.

Commented during the game last night: He is amazed that just because a coach may have some ties to the school, that we (Michigan) would assume he would have a interest in returning. He loves LSU and has no interest in leaving where he is  LSU. ( not rumor) he said this during the game.

No Way do we want Les Miles as our next coach.

When I heard it I had to rewind my dvr and listen again.

I also ready an article yesterday regarding DB, and how discreet he is being, in the article writer was a little surprised that he was able to pull off the secrecy of what is actually going on. We know he is going to hire a very good coach for Michigan Coach.

We all just need to be patient.

I was listening to the comments and was put off by them. I can think of a 100 ways he could have conducted the interview without making the comments that he made. Saying that just because he has past ties with Michigan, we would assume that he has an interest is going a little beyond.

Guh. Hoke? Miles? And apparently Harbaugh was never much of a viable option;

I'm getting more and more nervous that come sometime, oh, maybe the middle of October, we'll be wondering what the hell is going on, and wondering (waxing and waning) what RR could've done with 1 more year.

Looking at the ads on mgoblog, i.e. lowermybills.com; what the hell does the hot blonde have to do with paying too much for auto insurance?

I was flipping through the sport channels the other day when I saw C. Woodson on Rome is Burning, since it was Charles I stopped and mush mouth was asking him on UM/ CC and he said if UM couldn’t get JH he would be happy with Hoke.

Glenn Steel gave his endorsement, there was one other former player I can’t recall but not too shabby on former player endorsement.

Back...and to the left.

Get it? “Magic Bullet” theory from JFK, Ah fuck it’s too early for this. Morning all that are awake, I hope one of you has an iPhone to start a new thread soon.  I do not like the post-apocalyptic MgoBlog we need a coach so we can return to normal damn it.

They were speculating yesterday that UM has a shot at JOHN Harbaugh and staff if they lost to KC. No Idea where they got this gem from but they were going on about John, Cam Cameron, Greg Mattison and Andy Moeller.
