Lacrosse knocks off St. Joe's 11-8 for 1st win!!

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Michigan picked up their first win of the season and second win in program history today over St. Joseph's (5-9) today 11-8. Michigan played an outstanding game and dominated in every section besides the final score.

This is Michigan's first home win in program history, first win at Michigan Stadium, first win on senior day, and first win over a power conference team.

Next up for Michigan is #1 Denver on Saturday, 4/27 at 3pm EST. That one will most likely be ugly but it's nice to avoid a goose egg.

No.  Their win last year was against Mercer.  They were a two year old team.  Not brand new (but certainly not tradition rich).

Good win for the boys today.  St. Joe's is far from a powerhouse, but they did have 5 wins this year.  From the stats, looks like a very complete game.  Logan looks like he had a shaky first half but really put the wall up in the second half.

This is huge for the program. We completely outplayed St. Joe's which shows what we're capable of. We lose some talented guys after this year, but most of our production is from young guys and we have great frosh coming in next fall. I still think we won't be getting impressive wins until 2015, but I think we should win 3-5 games next year.

First home win... man, it's tough having been good in Lacrosse for so long, going to D-1, and suddenly finding out you were only "good" against the neighborhood pickup squad. But things are building!

Things are for sure building and it is exciting. We played right with a lot of teams this year, many of which are well established teams, but unfortunately we only beat one of them. We had a four game streak where we lost each by an average of only 3 goals. We played only one team with fewer than 5 wins. We've played four of the top 12 teams in the country. This was a tough schedule, and although winning only one game looks bad, it was not a failure of a season, and it got better as it went. The next few years will be exciting.
