Know your X's and O's - OSU vs MSU

Submitted by Space Coyote on

I created post that listed all the links I've done for OSU and MSU this year with regards to their 2013 football teams. For those interested in a bit of a primer before the B1G Championship game so that you know what to look for, you can follow the link (where there are 18 total posts about these two teams).

LINK

----------------

If you don't want to go through all of them, I'll pull out some of my favorites:

Here's a general look at OSU's Flood play, which is probably their favorite way to attack defenses deep, something like this will be a play OSU will likely pull out on any down/distance, because it isolates defenders (including safeties and LBs) on WR in the cover 4, and it requires great communication and great eye-technique in cover 3 on the third and long plays:

Here's a counter look that I hadn't seen before (didn't see it against Michigan, FWIW) that OSU runs out of the inverted veer. I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled it out against MSU if the backside LB chases and the backside safety focuses on coverage instead of LB level fill.

How MSU will use their base offense to attack OSU's defensive weaknesses.

Then 3 posts on one of my favorite nickel packages (I particularly like the last one below)

There are two Scenarios here (in my mind):

1. OSU wins, goes to the national title game where, dear lawd, B10 might get its first national title in one of the major two college sports since 2001 (so pitiful it is almost worth pulling for it).

2. OSU loses, FSU has to face Auburn/Bama and loses. SEC reigns supreme. Every god damn person from my home town continues to text message me about how the levels of football are FBS --> SEC --> NFL.

I will take option 1.

You could have the decency to use their proper names at least, since we have to suffer through this.

It's Ohio vs. Lil' Bro!

I was (sheepishly) looking into both of these teams for a primer as well and this post has given me all the info that I need....i will now go back home and slip slowly into a 24 to 48 hours mode of depression and root for the meteor as well

Kelly Eagles telestrator examples would be incredible    I can generally follow the abstractions, but it is so much richer watching Kelly show the Xs and Os on the actual play.

How about a Kickstarter for a Space Coyote telestrator?

I also need to utilize screen grabs better IMO. I keep telling myself to do more of that and then sometimes it's just easier (read: quicker) to move away from it.

To be honest, all I really need is a tablet though. That's how most coaches on youtube do it. Tablet with a pen and they can draw on videos and such, that would be the direction I'd like to go.

Another unfortunate problem though is the site I was using for videos lost almost all B1G videos, making life much more difficult on my end.

I think there are plenty of things I can do better. I still like drawing up plays in isolation as I do rather than just taking a screen grab and working from that (I just think it's cleaner and makes it a bit more universal), but there are certain benefits to doing it the other way as well.

If you do have suggestions, please feel free to add them. Always trying to make the site better (I'll actually have a state of the blog thing fairly different than Brian's, but more to understand the direction readers want the site to go and how it meshes with my own vision). First thing money from the site is going to is a DVR though, and hopefully some way to download the games myself so I don't have to rely so heavily on others for that. Then some sort of tablet thing that allows me to utilize video so people can watch that.

I also have a few ideas for a few other things that are related to the blog but not necessarily for the blog itself, which I'll probably get into.

suggestion is to either add your own "beveled guilt" opportunity or more adspace to your blog.   However, that is obviously an incredibly personal decision.  It is your blog and you may have intended it to be a hobby rather than income source.   But, man, content like that has value and it is nice when you can have others subsidize the costs of an expensive hobby.

Though I'm sure there are some other things I'd need to consider. I do have some ads on the side bar, I'm not sure I'm comfortable putting them between posts and those types of things, though they are "highly recommended" by people that recommend and design those sorts of things.

watch this game.  Seriously, I can't.  It suck too, because it is probably going to be a hell of a game.  In fact, I am not sure I can watch much college football this weekend.  I really struggle with watching teams that "matter" when my team doesn't.  I think I am going to take some time off from watching games until bowl season.  Bowl season is like a seperate season and there has been time for the wounds to heal.  I am going to watch the Pistons play the Bulls on Saturday.  Don't look now but Andre Drummond is man-handling everybody.

The key to the game for me is approach. Lil' Bro just doesn't hate Ohio like they hate us. In fact, most Spartys are Ohio fans on some level. They just won't be bringing that extra level of nastiness and reckless abandon, and that's why Ohio wins.

It's painful to think of pulling for either, but I have to go with Sparty.  I live in Ohio and consist of about the 1% Michigan fan population in a several square mile area.  I would much rather have Sparty in the Rose Bowl than Ohio with a chance to win a national title.  I don't like Sparty's chances, though, as they seem to eke by all season, given the lousy offense / good defense, but seem to turn it up a notch and pull out all of the stops against us.  I have a sick feeling Ohio will put a beating on them.
