Nice trifecta
October 17th, 2021 at 2:21 PM ^
We missed the headline, our biggest rival is #5
October 17th, 2021 at 12:19 PM ^
Looks like you only bet the Daily Double though.
October 17th, 2021 at 12:21 PM ^
I like this whole business of never losing sports games. Let's keep that going.
October 17th, 2021 at 12:23 PM ^
If we win National Championships in all three this year/season, I’ll eat a lemon. While naked. In Times Square at noon on a Monday. Save this and hold me to it.
October 17th, 2021 at 12:27 PM ^
Well, that's going out on a limb.
I'm just expecting two national championships.
October 17th, 2021 at 6:09 PM ^
Underpants then.
October 17th, 2021 at 12:28 PM ^
Finally a reason to root for Michigan to succeed!
October 17th, 2021 at 12:30 PM ^
While that is a sight we'll not be able to unsee, may it come to pass!
October 17th, 2021 at 12:34 PM ^
Just found The Naked Cowboy!

Pucker up....
October 17th, 2021 at 1:23 PM ^
Hey, how about a NSFG* warning before posting that?
*Not safe for the grocery
October 17th, 2021 at 5:38 PM ^
I'm not even mad, I'm impressed
October 17th, 2021 at 7:12 PM ^
Good grief. That is not funny, that's sick.
October 17th, 2021 at 12:24 PM ^
Wow. Stay thirsty my friends!
October 17th, 2021 at 12:35 PM ^
I have no idea about Gonzaga's team but considering they lost 3 guys to the draft last year I'm thinking they're banking a lot of this on Holmgren being an instant contributor as a freshman. Might happen but still feels UM is the better all-around team.
October 17th, 2021 at 12:41 PM ^
Well they do have an entire season of cupcakes to get their team into form and rack up some easy KenPom fluff points.
October 17th, 2021 at 8:50 PM ^
I believe Gonzaga is the only program to reach Sweet 16 or better in the past 6 years. They're an elite program and they pretty much will schedule against anyone in non-conference to bolster their case for the NCAA tournament seedings.
October 18th, 2021 at 6:31 PM ^
Sure, but those 3-4 big non-conference games are early season and pale in comparison to that conference slate (out of their control, but the point remains). My point is they have an entire season before they play and tough games that really matter. They could lose all of their tough non-con games and still finish with 4 or 5 total losses. Which would make them maybe a 3 seed at worst?
I’m not discounting them as an elite program, I’m simply pointing out that they’re more equipped to handle losing a little bit of talent than most teams because they have such an easy path to a top seed considering they only play a couple tough games before the NCAA tournament.
October 17th, 2021 at 8:48 PM ^
Gonzaga return quite a few key contributors like Drew Timme who is in the running for the national player of the year, Andrew Nembhard, and Anton Watson. Like you mentioned, they got Chet Holmgren but they also got Hunter Salis who is a 5* recruit. They have a transfer in Rasir Bolton who averaged 15.5 ppg at Iowa State.
Gonzaga is reloading this season and they have the 3rd best recruiting class in the country to help supplement the loss of their key players from last year.
October 17th, 2021 at 12:37 PM ^
After years of polls underrating us - I kind of enjoyed going into the season and proving those tools wrong.
But having Coach Howard recruit and develop these deep, strong teams, allowing us to start the season as national favorites? That's pretty damn good too!
Go Blue!!!
October 17th, 2021 at 12:45 PM ^
Kenpom has typically been fair (maybe even a litter homerish) to us. It’s the AP/coaches poll that typically underrates us.
October 17th, 2021 at 12:39 PM ^
That's great. Fun to see.
October 17th, 2021 at 12:39 PM ^
And with many non revenue sports competing for championships, I think we should bring back the Fire Warde groupthink MGoMob.
October 17th, 2021 at 2:23 PM ^
They succeed in spite of him not because of him. He’s awful.
October 17th, 2021 at 12:39 PM ^
My Michigan fandom began as a 10 year old in the early '90s when we were just good at everything -- top 10 in all three -- and I just assumed it would always remain so. Not going to take it for granted now.

Field Hockey #2
October 17th, 2021 at 1:04 PM ^
#1 men's hockey
#2 men's basketball (kenpom)
#2 football (Massey composite)
It's great..to be..a Michigan Wolverine!
October 17th, 2021 at 1:06 PM ^
Basketball or Hockey... next NC ?
October 17th, 2021 at 1:11 PM ^
Bball beats them by 1 week. The 2022 final 4 is one weekend before the frozen 4.
October 17th, 2021 at 2:16 PM ^
Dates noted. But if you want a play with safer money, call it hockey. There's a crapload of good, seasoned basketball teams that can get an upset against a really good Michigan team on a basketball court. There are not so many hockey teams that can do the same. I also think the hockey team might be a little more stacked - and I completely expect a National Championship from Mel's team this year.
Prove me wrong, Juwan...
October 17th, 2021 at 1:26 PM ^
Who's #1 in basketball?
October 17th, 2021 at 1:57 PM ^
Gonzaga
October 17th, 2021 at 2:21 PM ^
Ah, makes sense. I'm curious how / if Juwan can handle the dynamics of so much star power on the team the next couple of years.
October 17th, 2021 at 2:50 PM ^
Hopefully that's where all the NBA background will pay dividends.
October 17th, 2021 at 9:27 PM ^
Should be fun! I’m biased but I love basketball more than football so can’t wait for the season to get started.
October 17th, 2021 at 1:53 PM ^
Gosh maybe we’ll be within 100 points of Stanford for the director’s cup until the Sailing and Equestrian seasons ?
October 17th, 2021 at 2:09 PM ^
you ever try to sail a horse? It takes some skill!
October 17th, 2021 at 3:06 PM ^
Personally, I think they have us rated too high in basketball. 9 of our guys are freshman & sophmores. A lot of unproven talent to be ranked that high. I hope they are right, but Purdue and Illinois look better on paper.
October 17th, 2021 at 9:29 PM ^
Probably going to be games where Michigan smokes the opponent and a few head scratching losses. As long as it’s coming together by January / February it should be fine.
October 18th, 2021 at 2:23 AM ^
That’s not really a sensible way to look at our roster which is actually pretty experienced in terms of who will play the majority of minutes.
jones - senior, Eli - super senior, johns - senior as starters. Non senior starters are all American returning starter hunter and mcd all American consensus top 10 nba pick Houstan from best high school prep program in nation.
October 17th, 2021 at 3:35 PM ^
