I think UNC. They play a 4 guard lineup that would help us not get crushed in the rebounding battle. Kansas would be a much tougher matchup in that regard.
Kansas or UNC
UNC doesn't have much size at all whereas Withey worries me a bit for Kansas. I think we could beat either but I think I would rather play UNC.
...I think James Michael McAdoo is a good talent, but I think he's incredibly soft. If that's your best player, then I like GRIII's matchup with him.
...But I'd much rather play UNC.
Size, location and experience are all reasons why I'd rather play UNC over Kansas.
I would say we would obviously have a better chance of beating NC. Either team will provide a interesting challenge.
I think Kansas will win by 10. I want UNC because I think they are an easier matchup for UM. Kansas' size worries me, although I think we definitely could beat them. UNC, I worry about less.
Unlike UNC which as looked amaz... oh wait, they haven't looked very good either. Either way, it'll be fun to play a Sweet 16 game against a true power house team. Good opportunity for our team.
I think we'll have 5 Big Ten teams in the Sweet 16. Might have multiple teams in the Final Four. That would be great. Thought I'd take only one team as long as its Michigan.
Both. At the same time. Bring em on.
pick your poison to me, but would rather play UNC based on the size issue. Both teams are very well coached and stocked with talent. Either game will be a significant challenge, and I like the way UM is playing right now. Should be very interesting. Go Blue!
Does anyone know what day the Michigan game will be? I looked at cbssports.com but they only have one sweet 16 game listed for Friday (Oregon/Louisville)
It will be Friday but I'm not sure that they've released the time yet.
Thanks, I hope it is late in the day!
If we come out and play like we did yesterday, then it won't matter who the hell we play.
Both at once. We can beat them both and McGary will have a quadruple double.
I've had to watch Kansas all year. Withey has a 1 foot halo around him. You can't breath on him without getting called and he hacks all day. It reminds me of Zeller this year or Griffin a few years ago when we played Oklahoma.
I want Kansas to exit early every year. I like our matchups with UNC.
It REALLY pisses me off the way the Big Ten refs anoint star players with "the 1 foot halo". Zeller is the perfect example of it. And when you add the flopping, it makes it even worse.
UNC has been playing a lot better as of late and Kansas hasn't really impressed me all that much this year. I picked UNC to beat Kansas and I think that's how the game will end up.
Three-way comparision, courtesy of TeamRankings:
|Avg Score Margin||11.9||7.1||13.7|
|Effective FG %||54.60%||49.80%||53.30%|
|Off Rebound %||30.20%||32.80%||32.70%|
|Opp Effective FG %||47.70%||48.00%||41.30%|
If those are the numbers, then I would feel somewhat more at ease against North Carolina only because they seem to be a slightly more comparable team statistically and potentially a little more vulnerable to the strengths of Michigan. I also like the notion of playing a team that is actually less efficient offensively, or rather, less efficient than Kansas anyway. That being said, looking at the same numbers, I would like our chances against Kansas too.
After seeing this, I think I'd rather have UNC.
Kansas turns the ball over more.
Either way...bring all comers.
Defensive numbers of UNC, I'd prefer them. Kansas seems to outsize and/or outmuscle their opponents, and we just don't have the players to match theminch for inch.
My fiancé is from Chapel Hill and a huge UNC fan. Give me the heels. I want to destroy them.
Do you not have other ways of "destroying" your fiance?
I want the Heels to win so that I can celebrate with the rest of Chapel Hill tonight.
I also want the Heels to win so that Michigan can finally get sweet, sweet revenge and I won't have to keep hearing about that damned timeout that wasn't.
Given the choice between being the one miserable person in town or the one elated person in town, I think I'll take my schadenfreude, thanks!
They'd be the worse team, right?
Want to beat a 1 seed and have all the confidence necessary to win it all. Yesterday proved how talented this group is - we can handle KU or anyone if we play our best.
That way, we avenge '92 and '93 in one fell swoop mwuhahahaha!
I meant then Duke.
That is how my bracket is set up and for those exact reasons
A hypothetical of Michigan facing North Carolina, then a Steve Fisher-led San Diego State, then Indiana, then a Duke final.
Talk about exorcising some demons!
The best possible scenario would be for UNC to gain an emotional, hard-fought win against KU, and for them to have nothing left in the tank for Michigan. I know it's next week, but the "Williams against his old team" storyline could make a big difference.
Besides, it's not about ego; it's about winning the games. Michigan will have plenty of chances to beat a #1 seed in the Final Four if they get there. I would rather see them play the opponent they have the greatest chance of beating.
If Michigan played UNC in the round of 16, they would have the "intangible" motivational advantage that most teams have when they play Michigan; they would be playing against an iconic franchise wearing an iconic uniform. There is never any guarantee of anything, but this bracket could set up really nicely for getting Michgian to the Final Four, where anything can happen.
The Illinois of the ACC
My bracket says UNC.
Don't know who's watched the Indiana/Temple game just now, but if I were a Temple fan I'd be seriously RAGE pissed off you guys. The refs stole that one for Indiana, straight up.
trying my best to remain objective, but the charge against iowa st and now this...
I agree. First thought was Temple just lost to Indiana and the Zebras.
All I know or care about is the fact I am rooting for Michigan. All I can control.
our game will be the earlier game cause they give the proposed early game to the # 1 seed as an advantage of having a little more rest time. That's why I think MSU v Duke Will be the later 2/3 seeded game in that region.
As far as who I'd rather play....Kansas' supposed height advantage ends with Withey, he's their only really big guy. With the way Mitch is playing, I like that match-up. THJ is a veteran and I like him to check McClemore, I like Trey to dominate their PG.
I think we would beat UNC as well, but I think Kansas is really over-rated
I'm a Tar Heel dead.
I think we would handle them better
I know it's early, but based on what I see from these teams right now I don't think either would give us much trouble. UNC's offensive rebounding worries me a bit, but neither team appears to have anyone that can score as easily as Burke and THJ (or GRIII, if he plays like he has this postseason)
UNC, no question.
How's your bracket doing?
Kansas can't throw the ball in the ocean from the beach to start this.
UNC and Kansas are currently playing horrifying basketball.
Kansas has no offense lol...and they can't shoot threes.
It's a tough one...but I would take UNC because of weaker D and the fact they don't have a giant
Unc... I don't wanna face withey
I want to destroy them. Shed too many tears over that game as a young adolescent.
Doesn't matter, we will beat either.
Well, for the best chance to win, I want us to face the weaker team. So I guess I'll take the loser of today's game.
They both seem to have glaring weaknesses. Bring em on!
They both seem to have glaring weaknesses. Bring em on!
How is Kansas a one seed?
Most RPI top-50 wins in the country, 6-1 against RPI top 25, Won the Big 12 regular season and conference tournaments.
One thing that I haven't seen talked about yet (sorry if missed), is point guard play. I think Burke vs. Paige gives us a much better matchup than Burke vs. Johnson. Paige may be the better player but he is also a freshman while Johnson is a senior. Experience is definitely a key factor at this time of the year.
"Time Out." (hommage to Webber) I want them to be put in their place. . .
The website for that bar says it has been owned and operated by the same person for over 30 years, so I'm pretty sure the name has nothing to do with Webber.
I don't believe this has been mentioned yet, but when we won the national championship in 1989, we defeated North Carolina in the Sweet 16. I certainly wouldn't mind history repeating itself.
I'm in the process of hopefully getting a copy of that game.
Of course, anything I upload to YouTube gets blocked so it may not matter.
I want UNC. They have been inconsistant all year. It would scew my bracket. But, I want what is best for M.
If we play UNC, I imagine the commentators will mention Chris Webber's timeout about 50 times. We may have to watch that game on mute.
Well my satellite just went out here in Bloomington. Hoping it comes back on soon in this blizzard so I can finish watching this game.
kinda like the WKU game for Kansas
both of these teams look like garbage...UNC especially
But if Michigan plays like they did against VCU, we will beat KU. We'll just sick McGary on the KU giant!
The consensus seems to be UNC, and I don't exactly disagree, but Kansas sure is having trouble with a smallish, athletic, ballhandling team. Which reminds me of someone.
Withey scares me
McGary is giving up a few inches but way stronger michigan will try to pull withey out if the lane get him moving and attack the basket get him in foul trouble
Lets do that.
He scares you. Not McGary.
Morgan will be playing the majority of D I hope. But yeah, I can imaging Withey swatting away almost anyone who tries to take it it the hoop
Rather play NC, not sure how MCGary would handle the Kansas Big Man.
Plus I want revenge for Webber!!!
UNC has no concept of an offense. *just stating the obvious.
Kansas is playing at home and they will still have an advantage in the s16, but not nearly as much.
There goes that
looks like kansas showed up at halftime
Kansas is playing so much off the energy of this crowd.
Wasn't able too see our game yesterday, was it pretty much the same?
Watching both games on TV, our crowd was happy and excited. But it was nothing like this.
Dear god, Kansas is deadly. They are gonna be TOUGH.
They have outscored UNC 45-12 in the second half so far.
The pessimist in me fears that THIS is the Kansas team we'll be playing. The second half team that's shooting over 80%. Not the first half team that couldn't score and turned the ball over 20 times.
That is good for us.
They also have a guy who is seventeen feet tall and skilled. That is bad for us.
Going to be great matchup and good game.
And this is why we wanted UNC to pull this off. Yikes.
finds his shot and thj stays on fire, cuz we aren't scoring inside against withey
I think it's all about time we start saying a little prayer every night that Kansas does not play this well on Friday.
Every time I look up, UNC is derping another ball out of bounds.
Withey looks like the governer from the Walking Dead.
It looks like KU, which is fine. They have some bigs and are a good squad, but the Big 12 has been, um, uninspiring so far this postseason, and I have a feeling that the name on the front of the jersey may be leading to undeserved apprehension by fans. They are a good team, but this isn't your typical KU team with oodles of talent.
He's softer than Nowitzki. And as slow as Vlade Divac. But he is 7 feet tall. Let McGary run him all over the court and take him off the dribble. To be the best, you have to beat the best. Go BLUE!!!!
Have an idea when tip off time for the game?
He will lunge out and try to block the shots of a point guard or forward taking a shot. I think when he lunges out to block a shot our guards will have good passing lanes to pass to someone under the bucket.
In my bracket I have KU beating Michigan and going on to the final four. I hope I'm wrong and Michigan can win! It will be an interesting game, especially if we are playing well.
Have to think we'll be about a 2-3 point dog versus Kansas.
whenever we have gotten our hopes up....our teams have laid an egg....
i seriously believe that we will end our run in the sweet 16. not bad either way.....
