JUB Snippets: Harbaugh. Manuel "Positively Hate" Each Other & Moore Has the Job

Brian has implied as such in terms of Moore.  Farthest I've seen JUB go as when employed at Michigan he hasn't used such language but "hate" is a pretty strong term.

I don't think a more permeable AD would have kept JH from following what is an obvious dream to go capture a super bowl but it casts increasing doubt on this guy as an AD in general.  Or I guess a kinder view is these are just 2 guys who couldn't get along and everyone else loves Warde.

The third thing, Jim Harbaugh and the athletic director Warde Manuel positively hate each other. Michigan could have handled this a lot better, but I'm not sure if that would have kept Jim Harbaugh at Michigan.

That's cute Doug, Moore has the job, period. Everyone wants Sherrone Moore to have it.

Warde and the administration at Michigan arrogantly mishandled this situation.  One is the financial end. Michigan doesn't want to share their revenue with players.  Two is the political end.  Warde is a big DEI guy and didn't like Harbaugh from the beginning.  He didn't hire him plus he doesn't fit the political narrative.  Third, personality and ego.  Warde can't handle having a superstar elite coach in the department.  They never respected how elite Harbaugh is and played games with him on multiple negotiators over the last few years.  Let's be real.  Football at Michigan is the most important thing to the university.  Without football, Michigan falls far and fast into a place similar to Vanderbilt, Stanford, Harvard, Yale, etc...  You have an elite coach.  Any AD and President that is worth a crap give the man whatever he needs and wants to be successful.  They didn't.  They played games with him and let him walk.  Yes, they arrogantly let him walk.  Don't say if Harbaugh wanted to be here he would be here.  That's just a stupid naive and uninformed statement.  I will say, I think Moore is a great man and a great coach.  He's no Harbaugh and shouldn't be put in a situation to be compared to him.  Michigan isn't a place you learn to be a head coach.  Shame on Warde, Santa, and the Board of Regents.  You failed Harbaugh, the players, the students, the fans, and everyone who roots for Michigan.  You are idiots.  No surprise expecting administrators to put their egos aside and do the right thing.  Those days are long gone.

Good luck Jim.  I bet you are in the AFC championship within 2-3 years.  He may not get to a Super Bowl because of a guy names Mahomes.

Let's not all forget that Harbaugh has been an irascible, difficult, confrontational, son of a bitch everywhere he's ever worked. It's part of what we love about him.

Bowlsby the AD at Stanford said, "Jim would annoy you all week, but then you like him on Saturdays."

He famously generated a ton of friction with his bosses, the owner and general manager, at the 49ers, enough to get him fired.

Not to mention all manner of conflicts, tension, investigations, or whatever that seem to follow Harbaugh wherever he goes.

If anyone has a track record of creating bad relationships, it isn't Warde. I can tell you I sure as shit would not want to have to manage Jim Harbaugh as an employee, especially if during that tenure I had to:

  • Publicly reduce his compensation
  • Inform him multiple times that someone he wanted to hire he could not, or would have to summarily unhire because they weren't acceptable.
  • Deal with probably all manner of policy and HR-type conflicts

Please do not try to tell me that Jim didn't work every last nerve and pull every last tooth he could. That's who he is, like it or not.
