The title is the only cool thing, but what a title.

Jim Harbaugh So Weird He Refers To Ohio State By Name

Edit:  Why the negs?  I thought it was interesting to see that the national media thinks Harbuagh is crazy (in a good way) even when he does absolutely nothing weird.  Sort of fits the the Onion's meme of him sitting in every seat.

I never bought into that "Ohio" crap. It's ohio state or osu. The thing that's obviously juvenile in my case is that I refuse to capitalize their name in print or ever call them THE ohio state unibleghbleghbluh. Just call them by their name. I'm tired of all these witty off-field joke/jab victories while getting our asses kicked on it. In the case of Hoke & "Ohio", I'd always seen that as a weak ploy to create a team unity of anger on our side. I just happen to think neither team should need any extra motivation by now. It's the biggest rivalry in sports. The kids know and they either want to play hard for the multitude of obvious reasons or they don't.

Hoke just said Ohio in a press conference, that's it. It was never an attempt to unite the team or be used as motivation. The media blew it up and turned it into something it never was.

Wait, no, that's not how it went at all. You're correct about his first usage, but then he played right along after that, followed by Beilein and nearly the entire athletic department. Yes, the media played their part but I'd argue that this here message board did most of the work. Lets at least be honest in our arguments, please.

Let the other guys talk.  Meanwhile, behind the scenes, Harbaugh will have Michigan working like fictional character Clubber Laing, with an even bigger "chip" on their collective shoulder.  Anyone can talk and come up with stupid names like "That School Up North."  Harbaugh will start proving it on the field, a lot earlier than many people think.

Ohio is Ohio University.

Our other rival is MSU. If I call them something else it's "Buckeyes" or "Spartans"...that's it. I never use the other name.

OSU/MSU, Buckeyes/Spartans, Losers/Sore Losers. End of discussion.

...continued discussion: The transcript is on the front page and there are 2 press conference threads.

He said a lot of things...I couldn't care less how he refers to OSU, didn't when Hoke did either. Only thing I hated was how the media and everyone on here would get their panties in a bunch on how a grown man chose to refer to a university.

Who the fuck cares? Say it how you want...is Brady Hoke going to suspend you from being a fan or something? Jeez, it was always so obnoxious...everyone doesn't have to speak the same damn way, if you don't like it, call them what you want to call them.

Okay, now end of discussion. /drops mic

Never understood why Hoke referring to them as Ohio is considered so taboo while their head coaches refer to us as TTUN and their freaking Governor annually bans the letter M. Seems odd to only hold one side of a rivalry to this standard.

Get out of here with LOGIC man.

Kidding aside, its a great point and funny the whole dymanic.

The fact that it became an issue and actually was posed as a question means it worked.

Its kinda like them barely beating Hoke and then saying, jeez are you ever going to give us a game.

I think it's because there is an existing entity called "Ohio" already and they also play FBS football.
Quite frankly, I like the TTUN/Ohio stuff. I think it's interesting. I think it adds tension. But I think calling us Ohio wasn't creative. It lacked originality and wasn't clever. Then you guys lost to the actual Ohio in basketball immediately after Hoke started using the term and it made the whole thing a big joke. Killed the credibility of the insult.

Tl:dr
The idea was good, the execution was poor.

BJR, I posted this earlier and still don't understand about the fans of "THE Ohio State University" is their level of anger and animosity when Brady and others keep calling you all Ohio!

1) But when they score a touchdown, their cheerleaders bring out flags on the field that spell:

2) There fans spell:

3)  Their band spells out a script:

4)  Their stadium is called:

5) Their fight song says…”Fight the team across the field, Show them Ohio's here….”

So if they want to be called Ohio State, can't they just spell the extra 5 freakin' letters!

Even our spelling challenged little brother at least attempts to spell STAEE.  They do not go around calling themselves THE Michigan State University and yes I know Ohio University exists, but then why not spell out STAEE???  And please, do not answer back with your record over the last 7 years vs. us, that is a fact of life not an answer to a question.

But o-h-i-o IS your name, so I am still not clear why even the irrational ones don't like it.  Anyone new to college football who saw these 5 examples for your school would swear up and down that it is ohio.  Below are some other "state" schools and the flags their cheer teams bring out and they all have "state" in them.  I know THE ohio has enough funds to swing for the additional 5 flags.
