Good sh*t?
January 14th, 2024 at 3:05 PM ^
This isn't being reported by anybody else, except a 'verified' X account, which means absolutely nothing.
Everybody is so quick to jump on reporters who don't verify sources, yet so many show they are guilty of the exact same thing.
EDIT:
Some additional ppl are picking up that he is their top target. Though not reporting this is a done deal yet.
EDIT EDIT:
CBS is now reporting he's hired around 5p. Apologies to OP.
January 14th, 2024 at 3:48 PM ^
Sure seems fake.
In other news, UW's QB of the future just entered the portal.
Edit: Apparently he's the top target and "likely to accept" after Leipold declined the job. If true, good luck with all that.
January 14th, 2024 at 6:04 PM ^
ESPN is reporting that it’s a done deal. Great hire for Washington
January 14th, 2024 at 3:49 PM ^
No one else is reporting this. A Google search turns up nothing. I call BS.
January 14th, 2024 at 4:47 PM ^
Just yesterday it was reported that he and Arizona had agreed in principal to a contract.
January 14th, 2024 at 2:55 PM ^
Please, Arizona, don't target Moore. Unless Harbaugh stays.
January 14th, 2024 at 3:02 PM ^
Meh. If someone hires Moore, it opens the door for us to hire Minter. If I can only keep one, I’d much rather retain the defensive staff.
January 14th, 2024 at 3:10 PM ^
I like the idea of hiring Minter. I assumed if Jim left, he'd take Minter with him, but being the HC of Michigan might be too much for him to turn down. I consider him more of an NFL coach though, and I'd expect him to leave if he has a few successful seasons. Maybe then we could hire Moore if he does well at Arizona or wherever he ends up in that scenario..
January 14th, 2024 at 3:28 PM ^
So why would you take Minter but not Moore? Minter has the same HC experience than Moore do. Why do Minter get to have on the job training but not Moore?
January 14th, 2024 at 3:36 PM ^
I think his idea of hiring Minter as HC was predicated upon another school (e.g. Arizona) hiring Moore first. Moore is option A if Harbaugh leaves.
January 14th, 2024 at 3:55 PM ^
That was a question for anyone who keep saying Moore shouldn't get the job but want Minter to get it
January 14th, 2024 at 5:45 PM ^
Minters D was more important than Moores O
January 14th, 2024 at 4:05 PM ^
No offense (pun intended) to Moore, he did well, but Minter's side of the ball was literally one of the best in the country and either 1st or 2nd in Michigan history depending on your opinion of offenses in 1997 vs now.
To be honest I think either Phil Parker or Minter deserve the Broyles award this year.
January 14th, 2024 at 5:14 PM ^
Yes, this. In an age where offenses dominate we just won an NC by keeping every opponent under 25 points.
In many games this year the defense was forced to keep the game in check while the offense shot themselves in the foot.
I am 100% team Minter
January 14th, 2024 at 5:54 PM ^
I like both guys but Minters defense looked a lot better than moored offense plus it seems like he has a lot more connections to fill vacant staff opening with talented up and coming coaches.
January 14th, 2024 at 3:53 PM ^
So many posters share your opinion that Minter is more of an NFL coach than a college one. I just wonder what that is based on. He spent 4 seasons with the Ravens, 13 seasons with with 6 different schools.
January 14th, 2024 at 4:01 PM ^
Recruiting. Someone else can chime in but I seem to remember someone saying Jesse was OK but Moore and others were better.
January 14th, 2024 at 4:12 PM ^
MacDonald reportedly disliked recruiting, so his return to the NFL made a lot of sense. I've never heard the same about Minter. It seems that Michigan has had numerous coordinators who weren't key recruiters going back to Carr. I don't think they feel the same pressure to recruit relentlessly as position coaches may.
January 14th, 2024 at 4:09 PM ^
What if Minter is a better coordinator, and Moore is a better HC?
Harbaugh (and the players) clearly see something in Moore to trust him with the “full time” interim gig.
HC and Coordinator are totally different jobs, a lot of HCs who try to hang onto the play calling role don’t do great (*cough* third base).
While I agree with the sentiment that our “schematic advantage” is much greater on the defensive side of the ball, I think Moore could be a great HC as long as he delegates the full time OC role (preferably to someone with more passing game chops).
January 14th, 2024 at 3:06 PM ^
I'd be all for that. We'd get some good data on Moore. I don't think he's ready for the head job at Michigan. (I could be wrong.)
I'd also have to continue to visit "Tucson.com" and "Desert Swarm" to check in on a former Michigan coach. He'd be following in the footsteps of RichRod (on whom we got some decidedly mixed data) and Jedd (almost all good).
January 14th, 2024 at 3:08 PM ^
I am 100% sure that people here are overestimating how high on HC job lists Sherrone Moore is right now. I think Moore has done quite well. But he is more valued on this board than he is coveted by ADs with HC job openings.
January 14th, 2024 at 3:13 PM ^
And how could you possibly know this?
January 14th, 2024 at 3:17 PM ^
Because he ate his Wheaties?
January 15th, 2024 at 10:51 AM ^
Not only ate his Wheaties, but did this from his hotel room at a Holiday Inn Express.
January 14th, 2024 at 3:20 PM ^
Because nobody outside of Michigan fans ever mention Moore or other Michigan assistants as potential candidates for other schools. We've worried about losing them to every open job, except for Alabama.
January 14th, 2024 at 3:27 PM ^
He is a ghost. He has the ability to infiltrate rooms.
January 14th, 2024 at 3:19 PM ^
I think the only reason he isn't higher in job boards for an Arizona-level job is the uncertainty around Harbaugh. It doesn't really make sense for Arizona to interview Moore because if Harbaugh leaves M is almost definitely hiring Sherrone.
January 14th, 2024 at 3:25 PM ^
Almost definitely? How likely is that compared to a definite maybe?
January 14th, 2024 at 3:31 PM ^
That is not the only reason. Other reasons: Most ADs don't understand or fully appreciate the run game Moore did this year (and last) at Michigan. They don't see him as an 'offensive genius' the way they might for an OC that runs a pass heavy system. In addition, he is still early in his development to get a job at a place like Arizona.
January 14th, 2024 at 3:38 PM ^
Moore coordinated an offense that wasn’t particularly imaginative or wildly successful. Outside of Michigan trying to find a way to maintain Harbaugh’s culture, why would another major program be looking to him as its next coach?
January 14th, 2024 at 4:06 PM ^
Michigan finished 14th in scoring offense averaging 35.9 a game so what it wasn't pretty. LSU averaged 45 and loss 3 games which one would you prefer? Also ask USC. I'll take boring and 35.9 any week
January 14th, 2024 at 5:03 PM ^
I hate agreeing with Oracle because he is the worst but sometimes you have to look past stats. The Michigan offense was loaded with talent and beat up a lot of incredibly bad teams. They also had an all time defensive unit allowing them to play with the lead nearly all season, to dictate tempo, play with short fields etc. But the offense seemed to disappear at times, going into this super conservative mode hoping the defense will hold on for them. Count me in the camp that are worried about a lack of creativity and nuance in Moore as a play caller and offensive guru.
January 14th, 2024 at 5:45 PM ^
They didn't do anything spectacular on offense because they didn't have to. When they needed to, they were unstoppable and responded to the situation. I heard a stat that they only had 5 turnovers all season. We can go back to pretty ball and go 9 and 3 or we can continue to play the way we played the last 3 years where teams have a hard time matching up
January 14th, 2024 at 5:05 PM ^
If you go by the advanced rankings, the offense was #2 in the county according to S&P and #5 according to FEI. I know a lot of us have dinged Sherrone for not incorporating the QB run more (IMO, the reluctance to use the QB run predates Sherrone and probably comes from Harbaugh) and not using play action more (fair) but it’s not just true to say the offense wasn’t innovative. Look at Seth’s neck sharpies or breakdowns with Matt Demorest.
January 14th, 2024 at 7:08 PM ^
That’s not correct. Michigan ended up at #14 or so in SP+.
January 14th, 2024 at 2:56 PM ^
Round and round we go. I get around. Pretty good pickup for Washington.
January 14th, 2024 at 2:56 PM ^
Damn. Might convince some of those guys in the portal to stay.
January 14th, 2024 at 2:57 PM ^
Great hire for Washington.
January 14th, 2024 at 2:58 PM ^
Best option for Washington. Good get, but feel for Arizona who had their guy just to lose him after a few years.
January 14th, 2024 at 2:58 PM ^
Good shit, Jedd
He's a great hire for WA, dude was working miracles at AZ
January 14th, 2024 at 2:58 PM ^
CC: Musical Chairs
January 14th, 2024 at 2:59 PM ^
Best case scenario for washington. Even better than Deboer staying because Deboer was going to have empty cupboards either way. At least Fisch can bring in a good Qb and whoever else follows him
January 14th, 2024 at 2:59 PM ^
This doesn't seem like a legit source.
January 14th, 2024 at 3:02 PM ^
Its not.
January 14th, 2024 at 3:03 PM ^
Dang this is a great hire by them. He may end up being better than DeBoer
January 14th, 2024 at 3:03 PM ^
That is a good hire.
January 14th, 2024 at 3:04 PM ^
Good pickup for the Huskies.
January 14th, 2024 at 3:07 PM ^
Hoping it’s not true. Would like Fisch to come here next since I don’t think Moore is ready to be a head coach, and Minter is probably going to whatever NFL team Harbaugh goes to.
Washington pretty emphatically saying no to their OC as head coach was interesting.
