Jaylen Brown Squashes the "Only to Adidas School" Rumor

Submitted by VicTorious1 on

I'm not sure why people keep citing that he's going to an Adidas school when he refuted that rumor and said it was a misquote.  If already posted, please delete.

He goes on for some time about how important Cal's academic reputation is.  He has said similar things about the draw of Michigan's academic reputation.  I don't get why so many commenters assume that, becauses he could go to the Kentucky one-and-done semi-pro team, that he will do so.  Even if he leaves college early to go to the NBA, that is still one to two years of classes he will be taking to better himself.  Plus, he could always complete his degree later in life.  At the same time, while Kentucky does not have the same academic pedigree, they clearly have a strong track record recently of  NBA draft picks.  The Georgia schools would let him play closer to home.   As he says, he is weighing his options.  It seems like this guy  is being seriously stereotyped by several commenters in this thread without actually listening to what he is saying.

Please describe exactly how a hunch that he's going to pick Kentucky is "stereotyping" him, and in what way.

As you say yourself:

"At the same time, while Kentucky does not have the same academic pedigree, they clearly have a strong track record recently of NBA draft picks."

I think this will be a major if not deciding factor, so if you're criticizing me for thinking he will pick Kentucky, aren't you criticizing yourself, too?

If I'm wrong and he picks Cal, good for him. Maybe he'll be more likely to stay in school longer there.

I'm just assuming he doesn't come here. I'd rather be pleasantly surprised.

Besides, if Caris comes back, which it looks like he will at this point, it doesn't seem like there would be room for Brown anyway.

To get out of AA. We have had borderline guys and obvious non-1st rounders declare and that's understandable to a certain degree but other schools seem to keep borderline and sometimes even potential lottery picks. Kaminsky came back this year for his senior year even though he was a lock to be mid-1st round. Gary Harris was a lock 1st rounder after his freshmen season and cane back. Russell for OSU is a lock to be a lottery pick and he is very seriously considering coming back! Meanwhile we have a borderline Levert walking around in a boot and is still not sure if he wants to return!!
