Damn, was really hoping he would hold out and be the next great tackle in the footsteps of Lewan and Long but can't fault him for making this decision. Best of luck!
August 18th, 2020 at 6:37 PM ^
Again?
August 18th, 2020 at 6:37 PM ^
This site is the devil trying to do stuff on a phone.
August 18th, 2020 at 6:40 PM ^
Do you not read the main feature of this website--the front page?
August 18th, 2020 at 6:42 PM ^
Actually no, not really. Its bookmarked in my phone to go straight to the board.
August 18th, 2020 at 9:38 PM ^
I thought I was the only one.
August 18th, 2020 at 6:49 PM ^
Too be fair, A LOT of people probably just head straight to the message board. Including me... And I would also say that the main feature on this site is this message board.
August 18th, 2020 at 7:02 PM ^
Yep, I changed my bookmark when it became obvious Brian had moved on from football to politics in life. It's fine, this is his site, he can do whatever he wants.
l enjoy his writing about football, it's fantastic, truly gifted. Politics, I'll pass.
August 19th, 2020 at 8:17 AM ^
Brian writes like 1 or 2 explicitly political posts per year and it's about the Ann Arbor City Council. When else is he writing about politics?
August 18th, 2020 at 7:27 PM ^
I don’t. You guys are all I’ve got.
August 18th, 2020 at 11:37 PM ^
I don't. My bookmark of this site takes me to the board.
August 18th, 2020 at 6:42 PM ^
Good thing he got that redshirt.
August 18th, 2020 at 7:57 PM ^
He wasn’t ready.
August 18th, 2020 at 8:26 PM ^
I didn't say good thing he didn't play as a freshman.
I'm making fun of this blogs fascination with redshirts even though they almost never matter.
August 18th, 2020 at 9:00 PM ^
Quite often true.
August 18th, 2020 at 9:51 PM ^
I would disagree with saying they never matter. For top level guys who are slated as early entries, they often don't come into play, hence why blue chip 5 stars like Dax Hill for example aren't ever going to see one.
But for the majority of freshman, it's a benefit to have them on campus, learning from the guys in front, especially at positions where size matters like the offensive and defensive line. Worst case scenario, it lets passed over players graduate early and play football elsewhere, but there are situations like with Jon Runyan Jr, it's an enormous help. No one slated him as draftable but he made huge strides in his 4th and 5th years enroute to getting picked.
Basically, if we can afford to redshirt guys, we should, especially with the 4 game rule.
August 18th, 2020 at 10:34 PM ^
I did say almost and I did say fascination.
August 18th, 2020 at 6:43 PM ^
The B1G is not playing sports in the fall.
There is a pandemic happening.
Keith Jackson is fine.
I'm forever single.
August 18th, 2020 at 7:26 PM ^
If you're not doing nothing, want to jam in Joe's Garage?
August 18th, 2020 at 7:43 PM ^
Come on over. Ignore the women that tells us to turn it down. I don't care that her kids are trying to sleep. I will keep my guitar away from you, as it may want to kill your mama.
August 18th, 2020 at 8:20 PM ^
I got my electronic bag pipes tuned last week... how's the whiskey supply? On my way...got a new/old Primus tune I want to play... let's do it for Johnny and the old days when we were greasers.
August 18th, 2020 at 8:55 PM ^
So....keep it greasy?
Don't you boys know any nice songs?
August 18th, 2020 at 9:17 PM ^
+1 to everyone on this thread. The white zone is for loading and unloading only. If you've gotta load or unload, go to the white zone...
August 19th, 2020 at 8:04 AM ^
"Look Betty, don't start up with your white zone shit again. There's just no stopping in a white zone."
August 18th, 2020 at 8:57 PM ^
It wasn't very large
There was just enough room to cram the drums
In the corner over by the Dodge
It was a fifty-four With a mashed up door
And a cheesy little amp With a sign on the front said "Fender Champ"
And a second hand guitar It was a Stratocaster with a whammy bar...
August 18th, 2020 at 9:26 PM ^
Rob I think you need to stick closer to church oriented social activities!
August 18th, 2020 at 9:56 PM ^
like Mary?
I'll admit it, I used to belong to the CYO back in my younger days.
August 18th, 2020 at 6:48 PM ^
Welcome to the new norm for college football. If im a stud 2 year player, sit out get a trainer and prepare for the draft.
August 18th, 2020 at 6:51 PM ^
also get an agent and start making money.
August 18th, 2020 at 7:08 PM ^
Yep. Can't blame them. It's a pretty smart move.
August 18th, 2020 at 9:40 PM ^
How can you ever compete on the recruiting trail with OSU with that attitude? OSU players start earning money from the get go ;)
August 18th, 2020 at 7:15 PM ^
The college football that I grew up with (70s and 80s) is dead. I can actually see a day when it will not exist at all. Sad.
August 18th, 2020 at 8:05 PM ^
It’s sad that he was so successful he can afford to make this his living at 20 years old? Odd take but go off I guess.
August 18th, 2020 at 10:08 PM ^
Yeah instead they just pumped kids full of drugs
August 19th, 2020 at 12:37 AM ^
Agreed Mr. Jim.
Sadly, it might be over....
But if we can just let them get paid with NIL rights, everything would work out.
Except, wait I am on the OL, and I am busting my ass several hours a day, for several years, to open up holes for these guys to run through.... where is my NIL rights $$ ?
August 19th, 2020 at 10:18 AM ^
Yes, Mr.Jim, the good ole days came and went. Just wait until players are getting paid. I still don't know how that will be pulled off given Title IX. That's another subject, so I'll stop there.
While CB is still fun to watch because of atmosphere it has, it might more difficult to just buy into the purity of the sport.
August 18th, 2020 at 7:30 PM ^
To be fair, Nick Bosa did the same thing before, so it's not just the Michigan curse
August 18th, 2020 at 7:43 PM ^
Yeah, I think this is just how it will be for now on . Why take another year of a beating, just train and go get drafted.
August 19th, 2020 at 12:31 AM ^
Bosa sat out an actual season.
Mayfield would've played this year had, you know, [waves had at outside world] not happened.
August 18th, 2020 at 7:03 PM ^
I saw him play in high school. Next year there was a 5 star from GR, Logan Brown, who went to Wisky who I also saw play. I posted here then that I thought Mayfield was better. He would pull and bury guys because he was way more agile than anyone his size should be. Good kid too. Congrats.
August 18th, 2020 at 7:07 PM ^
Grab that rip cord draft eligible players ! Campuses are shutting down like cheap bars. Go home before Covid bites your ass on campus.
August 18th, 2020 at 7:19 PM ^
Sad we didn’t get to see him at his best. But I understand the decision.
August 18th, 2020 at 7:38 PM ^
Mmmmmm....2020! Tastes like tofu slathered in Hawaiian poi with a side of unseasoned brussels sprouts.
August 18th, 2020 at 7:57 PM ^
Don’t forget the vegemite sandwich!
August 19th, 2020 at 9:50 AM ^
I didn't even ask for it. All I asked was "Do you speak-a my language?"
August 18th, 2020 at 8:25 PM ^
His draft stock would be higher if he got the chance to play but no the Big Ten continues to screw players out of money.
August 18th, 2020 at 11:20 PM ^
No, USA citizens and Trump administration continue to screw players out of money, not B1G. If Trump and his administration had put out a proper protocol instead acting like it doesn't exist, we wouldn't have been in this situation.
August 19th, 2020 at 12:42 AM ^
So dumb.... and just false info.
Both of these comments.
August 19th, 2020 at 1:30 AM ^
You’re saying trump, who did nothing to prevent the pandemic and called it a hoax until a week before we were swamped - and who continues to downplay it - actually isn’t responsible for the fact that we have the worst Covid status in the developed world? Literally every expert agrees the US, which theoretically has the best medical establishment in the world, has failed on a colossal level. The statistic a don’t lie. But you do.
