Is it time to extend Harbaugh's contract?
He's got two years left. To avoid a "dead man walking" situation on the recruiting trail, the time to recommit to him is now, no?
We're all too familiar with the record vs. OSU, bowl games, ranked opponents on the road, no B10 titles, etc. but he DID destroy ND and (a quickly disintegrating) MSU this year. There are some decent young recruits and players in the pipeline. Is UM on the march to national greatness we all hoped for? Just maybe a bit slower march than anticipated? Or is it more of an endless slog to a ceiling... one that's just not high enough.
Do you extend him? Because that seems to be the question the program is facing. I'm a bit torn. There just seems to be no progress vs. OSU in five years. I'm torn. What would you do?
November 30th, 2019 at 7:18 PM ^
After this beat down you really think now if the time to discuss an extension ?
November 30th, 2019 at 7:27 PM ^
I mean, it's like, what, 15 out of 16 now?
Is everybody shellshocked? I'm not. OSU went about its business of beating UM and moving onward and upward. And the business of Harbaugh's future is very much directly related to what transpired.
Does UM double down on this regime? Or not? Pretty simple. If it's "too soon" maybe just don't answer.

Check the back channels and see if it’s possible to get Matt Rhule. Outside of him, keep Harbaugh.
November 30th, 2019 at 7:41 PM ^
47-41 overall record. Dumped Harbaugh for that? Interesting
November 30th, 2019 at 7:45 PM ^
Dude is younger and has Baylor competing again within 3 years of the scandal. He’s literally doing what Harbaugh did at Stanford in half the time. If we got that Harbaugh, this programs fortunes would have been much different.
November 30th, 2019 at 7:46 PM ^
He went from 2 wins to consecutive 10 win seasons at Temple.
He took a dumpster fire Baylor program from 1-11 to 11-1.
Im not saying he’s a guy to go after, but the dude looks to be quite the fixer.
November 30th, 2019 at 7:50 PM ^
Only 44 years old to boot. NFL or PSU might come calling
November 30th, 2019 at 7:19 PM ^
I don’t see how we could do better than Harbaugh. OSU is going to remain a top 5 program for at the very least a few more years and likely more. We are asking Harbaugh to beat the very best team in college football. It’s an extremely tall order. You think anyone else it up for it ?
I say extend Harbaugh and brainstorm how we can use the incoming new rules to get money to recruits legally, if we continue to refuse to bag.
November 30th, 2019 at 7:24 PM ^
I agree. Extend him 5 years. We arent going to get anyone better. It sucks losing to OSU, but they wont stay on top forever. Stay the course, win 10 games a season, turn east Lansing into a crater, pass Penn State and figure out how to get competitive against OSU.
November 30th, 2019 at 7:27 PM ^
Totally agree
November 30th, 2019 at 7:29 PM ^
Agree. The best way to solidify OSU's dominance is to start another coaching carousel with another change in identity and philosophy. Just stay the course for now. Don't make an emotional decision after losing to the #1 team in the country and historically good.
November 30th, 2019 at 7:31 PM ^
Matt Rhule. His work at Baylor is crazy given how low they fell during sanctions. If Franklin leaves PSU, then they’re gonna get him and beat our ass too like OSU does.
November 30th, 2019 at 7:44 PM ^
Stop trying to make Rhule happen. It's not gonna happen.
November 30th, 2019 at 8:42 PM ^
So try to be Iowa? Why even bother fielding a team if that's the goal? How delusional do you have to be to watch what Harbaugh's done to this point and think he should coach another game much less another FIVE YEARS?
November 30th, 2019 at 9:52 PM ^
"They wont stay on top for forever"
I've been telling myself that for the last 20 years. Insanity.
November 30th, 2019 at 7:25 PM ^
Nice and level headed comment. Thanks
November 30th, 2019 at 7:29 PM ^
Thank goodness, I have found my people. Harbaugh is the man for the job. It's probably not very attractive for anyone else to try to live up to the expectations Harbaugh has, which are nearly impossible.
Fire Saban though, dudes, that guy lost TWICE this year!
November 30th, 2019 at 7:36 PM ^
+1. Agreed. And I take back what I said about Waka Flocka Flame being way better than Gucci Mane.
December 1st, 2019 at 1:33 AM ^
Here, here. OSU is just on that elite level and we are good not great. Stay the course, do what you can to get more Dax hill types.
Upset, yep, pissed , yep, but I’m not even close to wanting to change course. Those b holes are just insanely good.
fart noise. onto basketball... but i really hope the team buys into the bowl game. Can provide momentum and decrease the doom and gloom just a bit in the long offseason.
November 30th, 2019 at 7:23 PM ^
I've got a contract you can extend
November 30th, 2019 at 7:24 PM ^
pound it bro.
November 30th, 2019 at 7:26 PM ^
Yes. We need to hit on our D-line recruits at a high level. In 2016 and 17 we were far lass talented offensively than we’ve been the last two years but we were right there to win both those games because of our DL. We don’t have players line R Glasgow, Hurst, Wormley, Taco, Gary, and Chase. That showed today. Fields had a ton of time, and Dobbins was getting 7-8 yds before being touched all day
November 30th, 2019 at 7:50 PM ^
Our DL is sub par and we don’t have one interior DL committed for this year. How is that possible?
November 30th, 2019 at 7:51 PM ^

November 30th, 2019 at 7:27 PM ^
LOL
FUCK NO!
I'd rather not commit the program to a solid decade + of being raped by Ohio State every season. At a certain point, his pitiful record against top quality opponents and in bowl games is going to be a negative on the recruiting trail...as if it wasn't already.
November 30th, 2019 at 10:36 PM ^
I love how comments like these are never accompanied with an alternative suggestion.
Don't bother, because your ideas probably suck.
November 30th, 2019 at 7:29 PM ^
I can’t objectively answer that question when I’m so emotional. So for that reason I will stay quite.
November 30th, 2019 at 8:13 PM ^
stay quite... what?
Don't leave us hanging!
November 30th, 2019 at 7:30 PM ^
For recruiting purposes, yes.
Outside of that meh. Michigan lost to the 3 best teams on its schedule again like 2018 and 2017.
That seems to be good enough for Warde n co.
November 30th, 2019 at 7:31 PM ^
Yes. Harbaugh is still the best choice for UM.
November 30th, 2019 at 7:32 PM ^
Michigan losing to OSU isn't unique to Harbaugh... Michigan has been on the upswing with multiple 9+ wins under Harbaugh. You risk that not keeping Harbaugh, but to be honest he might want to move on from the silliness which is college football.
I'd extend his contract in a heart beat.
November 30th, 2019 at 7:34 PM ^
Absolutely. He's doing a great job, and he's a great man for training these young men. They'll get over the hump eventually, but there's no one else who could do better--or even as well--as he's been doing at Michigan.
November 30th, 2019 at 10:25 PM ^
Lol. Do you even football?
November 30th, 2019 at 10:41 PM ^
Imagine if OSU said that to themselves while under Cooper. Or GA while under Mark Reich. Imagine for a second that Clemson didn't want to take a chance on a guy like Dabo. Geez man.... It's football. It's a meritocracy and JH hasn't earned shit.
November 30th, 2019 at 7:34 PM ^
If he stays, so be it. Wouldn’t be mad if he somehow got an NFL job or was not renewed, however. At this point, there are better, you get, hungrier coaches out there IMO.

Extend Harbaugh
Replace Brown with Venables or any other elite d-coordinator by paying him double whatever he is making
Start "competing" on the recruiting trail. Whatever the elite teams are doing and paying, match it.
December 1st, 2019 at 4:22 AM ^
To that end, Harbaugh would be wise to take a pay cut and use the difference to secure top assistants.

Tressel was an upgrade from Cooper. Ryan Day is filling in for Urban. Juwan seems to have taken over for Beilein nicely so far. Im not saying fire him for the sake of firing him but I feel like a lot of coaches can win 9 games at Michigan and beat indiana, a down msu team etc.
November 30th, 2019 at 9:53 PM ^
Rodriguez (who won at WVU) and Hoke (who won at San Diego State) couldn't. Any time you hire a new coach, you're rolling the dice.
November 30th, 2019 at 7:43 PM ^
Time to move on. Harbaugh has lost his edge.
November 30th, 2019 at 7:43 PM ^
Sure Hoke was worse, but there are a lot of coaches who could almost beat PSU, while getting blown out by OSU and Wisconsin, given this level of talent.
I'm not a "Harbaugh has to go" type of guy, but at this point I don't really care if he stays.
November 30th, 2019 at 7:47 PM ^
Have to extend him, but it certainly seems like just giving in to losing 2-4 games per year and not beating OSU. That’s the record, that’s the trend, and that’s reality. As much as I hate it, no one else is coming in here to do any better. Harbaugh has proven he will adapt - I sincerely hope he does the same on the recruiting trail. That’s the biggest issue he’s facing.
November 30th, 2019 at 8:22 PM ^
Yes - next question...
November 30th, 2019 at 8:42 PM ^
Add my vote for extending. Today was brutal. But I think Harbaugh is building. The offense looked like it could score at any time. Today it just . . . didin't. I think we need someone more efficient than Patterson to run the QB position. Ole Miss guys told us he was feast or famine, so we knew what we were getting. But he has been the best for the job this year, and we just have to deal with that.
Don Brown dismantles every other offense. His adjustments this year were impressive. Unfortunately OSU this year has been looking more lethal even than usual since day one this season. It just wasn't going to happen today. Yes, Michigan shot themselves in the foot too, but I think a lot of that is because they knew they were overmatched and were trying to push. Mistakes happen that way.
November 30th, 2019 at 8:54 PM ^
If we need someone more efficient at QB, who’s responsible for that? Ultimately the HC. Our transfer guy was Patterson. Theirs was Fields.
November 30th, 2019 at 8:59 PM ^
Well, Fields obviously went with a program that wanted him and that was consistently winning in the past two decades. You get two coaches that don't pan out, you are going to grind for a while until you can rebuild the program.
