I remember Manny Harris being ejected for accidentally hitting a Purdue player’s nose as he brought the ball down. But I guess blatantly elbowing a guy in the lip to stop him from getting to the ball is okay.

i was at that game. happened pretty early too. they have since changed the rule. defender has to stay out of the offensive player's "cylinder".

I’m glad that rule was changed. Though that still wouldn’t explain how a guy flailing his arms back and high in the air in an attempt to box out resulting in a bloody lip got nothing. Refs looked at it for all of 3 seconds. I’ve seen a lot less than that result in free throws.
