Interesting "coincidence" (or is it??) For me personally

Submitted by evenyoubrutus on December 31st, 2021 at 10:45 AM

Brace yourself for a cool story bro moment. Those of you who don't like these kinds of posts, can suck my nostalgia.

It occurred to me today that I was 11 years old the last time Michigan won a national championship. I thought about what my life was like back then as a wee lad. I had been the only one of my siblings to really get into Michigan football with my dad (ironically my dad and I were the only ones in my family to not go to UM). He and I took our new puppy to the national championship parade and I vividly remember seeing Charles Woodson riding on the back of a pickup truck with his Heisman trophy and getting a roar of applause.

I realized my two oldest are 12 and 10, the average of which, for those Walmart Wolverines like myself who don't feel like grabbing a calculator, is 11, the same that I was when, you know. Coincidence? Or something... more?

yeah...guys like stephenrjking... who rip Harbaugh all year and demand his firing, along with claiming we won't win more than five games etc, only to after the OSU win write a diary of "The Michigan Difference" on how great we are....  the nerve.... When others call us an arrogant fanbase, it holds merit, and we need to purge the unconscionably shameless hypocrites.

There's been a fairly outsized share of outright hypocrisy here, no doubt about that.

I think we all stand on other people's shoulders to look out on the world, to make ourselves look tall. But when you reflect on the fact that Harbaugh won huge games and was a runner-up for the Heisman as a player; played high-caliber football in the NFL; coached several schools, including Stanford to glory; coached an NFL team twice to the Super Bowl (I mean, hard-earned stature, anyone?). . . and some of the. . . noodles. . . here, including some site patrons, who said really, really, really silly stuff about him. . . the lack of even the simple respect you accord another fellow human--when the reverence for other figures and traditions is so often on sentimental overload (!)--has been nuts. I mean, ash heap of history, anyone?

I'm not sure you know what "hypocritical" means. It's not actually in any way hypocritical to expect a season to be disappointing -- and then be happy when you're wrong.

Not everyone accepts that the only valid form of fandom is to expect every season to be great. But it is, obviously, to cheer for the team.

I'll give you a more timely example: I think it's probable that Michigan will lose today ... and at the same time, I will be cheering hard for the Maize and Blue, and will be over the moon if I'm wrong. I till consider myself a fan.

I saw a red tailed hawk the morning of the OSU game.  Looked it up and discovered it as the bringer of miracles....

We later finally ended the streak vs Ohio...

I have not seen that hawk since, until....you guessed it, this morning.

Looking for another "miracle" this evening.

Meh, that's not registering on the official Michigan astrological needle.

But I read of some dude on here earlier this month (?) who lives in Japan somewhere and went out for a morning stroll and bumped into a dude wearing Michigan State apparel on the day of the Michigan State game.  I've been to that part of the world.  No one wears MSU shit over there.

All I am saying is that that dude needs to stay the fuck indoors today, the entire day, blinds down just in case, phone locked in Do Not Disturb mode until final whistle.

What are the odds that someone who was 11 when Michigan won that earlier championship in 1997 would now be 35 or so, and have kids about 11 years old?

Joking aside, that's cool for you and, here's hoping, for your kids.

give me a minute.  once you go past 10 i have to count using my toes, which means i have to take my socks off.  but when i do that i lose count on the first 10 and have to start over.

Every week I showered and shaved on a Thursday Michigan won.

I apologize for my general hippiness for the MSU game, that was my bad.

I did shower and shave last night.

Ah crap, is this going to be another "awesomeness of the number 42" kind of numerological coincidence epiphany thread?

Sure, and thanks for the fish too.

I too was a youngin when they won the National Championship in 97, I was in 2nd grade in a house full of Buckeyes in West Central Ohio with not a single Wolverine fan around. I was forced to watch college football each weekend with my dad and older brother, mostly Ohio State games but would always see Michigan games when they weren't on same time as OSU. I always was drawn to the beautiful winged helmets, the maize and blue and in those days always beating the Buckeyes.

It was that year watching Woodson clinch the heisman and demoralizing their team that solidified my love and passion for our Michigan Wolverines for the rest of my life. Just icing on the cake beating Washington State and becoming National Champions.

I thought to myself this year with Mike Hart coming back home(and in return seemingly making amends with Harbaugh after the little bit of division created when Harbaugh and him had some comments back in forth) and at the same time having JJ and D Edwards come in as another immediate impact True freshman QB RB duo(Henne and Hart) I felt before the season somewhat prophetic that the division has now turned to unity and made all things right in the Michigan world.

Would I or could I have predicted the beauty of a season we have had definitely not. But why not make all things right again with yet another National Championship season this year.

Dunno why anyone would downvote this heartwarming tale. If it's numerology we're talking, this is numerologically sound AF. Have a perfectly bestial day,

I was in the south endzone on Jan 1st. 1998 in the Rosebowl.  The way the game ended, I was just stunned and in shock, and then I started crying in the stands.  This is going to be an epic battle between two very similar teams.  Let's go Blue!

To add to your story…. You saw Charles Woodson at the parade, who wore #24 with the Raiders.

It’s also been… 24 years since ‘97, which is also the number worn by our best player and fellow Heisman candidate whose father was also on that ‘97 squad!

it could be coincidence in either event, you GOT TO PUMP IT UP DONT YOU KNOW PUMP IT UP

I was 33 the last time Michigan won a NC. That is 3 X 11.  When I was 11, I remember Michigan playing a tough game against OU in the Orange Bowl. Rick Leach got injured in the 2nd half and OU won 14-6. Another coincidence is that at age 11 I did not know I would have degrees from both of the schools in the '75 season Orange Bowl. Though I wanted to be the next Rick Leach at Michigan.

Wow, my son was 11 in 97 too. Although he is a Sparty, I know he will be rooting for Michigan today - at least for my (Walmart Wolverine) sake and for the B1G.

I’ve got 6 beers in me, a pulled pork sandwich and enough key west shrimp to sink a ship and you go typing out a multi paragraph thread? I’ll read it tomorrow after we beat that ass. Go blue!!!!
