What kind of offense would you run?

But Gardner with the #1?? Kind of putting the carriage in front of the horse there don't you think? Lets not put somebody that hasn't caught a ball yet in a regulation game in front of one of the schools best WR's. Especially, when the one we are talking about is still listed as a QB

His offense didn't dominate except with weak opponents. Wake up! Yes to the 1 and 2 jersey. The rest is up to the team, the team, the team and not some 40 year old fan like myself. DC Mattison, and OC Hoke; I would order Hoke to hire an OC and coach the team while I drank beer on the sideline. I would also ask that the cheerleaders practiced by my beer stash. I would also make sure Kate Upton got VIP tours from the head coach.

1. I can't see anyone on defense earning #2. The only player who I would consider giving it to is Jordan Kovacs, for his heart and his determination.

3. No helmet stickers. All we need is the wings.

4. Yes, a few different sets would be ideal.

5. I wouldn't, but it wouldn't kill me if it happened.

6. I would run a passing spread offense, plus a little extra tight endage.

Alternate uniforms on the condition that they are used as either a recruiting tool or a method of surprise to throw off the other team. or both

My coordinators........ duh.........no brainer........ the ones we got dude.

As far as the whole what type of offense I would run I am smart enough to know that I know less than nothing about anything so I would defer all decisions to my oober smart staff and I would hide in my office, until the crowd outside, mutilated Dave Brandon for hiring me.

Given my choice I'll keep running my machine at work and let the great men that are our beloved UM coaches,  just do what they do.

I'd make damn sure they understood there was no entitlement to numbers, no entitlement to anything.  There's only one bullet on the agenda -- work hard and be what is expected of Michigan.  Period. 

This team -- hell, any team -- thrives not on the bullshit about numbers or any unearned accolades.  Team, team, team ... and if at the end of the season the Big 10 banner is up in the rafters ... then we talk about honors.

I'm just in that kind of mood tonight.  Neg-bang me if you wish.

Nobody would get #1 or 2 right now. I think the guy who dons that uniform has to be spectacular

I don't mind the helmet stickers. We had them back in the day. Strangely, I don't like the helmet numbers even though they were worn back in the day, too.

No alternate uniforms. We can slight changes to our road unis, but not the blues.

Gorgeous Borges and Greg Mattison would be my coordinators.

Would anyone on defense get #2?  Blake Countess has earned it IMO.

Same goes for the #1 on offense?  This one sits vacant this year.

Helmet stickers? Yes? No? I would have stickers if we did not have numbers.  There is no doubt in my mind that players would love it.  And although no one is more important than the team, it gives players something to compete over to get better.  It's a motivator.  

Alternate jerseys?  Yes, but stricter guidelines or some kind of vote by players or whoever.  I never want to see the Sugar Bowl or Bumble Bees ever again.

Helmet numbers? Yes, if I didn't decide on stickers already.

What kind of offense would you run? I would run the same as Borges.  Utilize your athletes and play makers but eventually get back to a more traditional pro style set.  I know manball works in the big ten, but outside of it, especially in a playoff, is in question.  I would never be as conservative as coach Carr.  I would run trickery.  A hybrid of size, power, and athleticism.  

To add on to that, who would be your coordinators?  If it aint broken, don't fix it.  As of now, Borges and Mattison would be my pick.

Helmet stickers? Yes? No? No. I was just watching an old Rose Bowl game where we had helmet stickers and they were awful.

Alternate jerseys? If the players want them, OK. But no more than once or twice per season.

Helmet numbers? Same thing--if the players want it.

What kind of offense would you run? With Denard, I'd run something like what we have now. I still think mobile quarterbacks are the way to go in college, so I'd want to keep some spread elements in my offense. I would be run heavy, with the QB and tailback splitting carries about 1:2.

To add on to that, who would be your coordinators? Not counting Borges and Mattison, on defense, I'd add Manny Diaz. On offense, I'd add James Coley from Florida State. Coley has done a good job of green-lighting scarmbles and his QBs usually make decisions pretty quickly whether to pass or run. His QBs aren't going to look like PAt White or Denard Robinson, but they are mobile enough to pick up yards when passing lanes are closed.

To add on to that, who would be your coordinators?   I can have anyone?  Give me Mattison on defense (seriously, I think we have the best defensive coordinator out there)  and  gruden running the offense.

 

bonus question:  I would try to eliminate bodybag games and any out of conference game that isn't against a big name/big time.   I figure you go 3-1 you are cruising, you go 2-2 and you can actually claim to be better than a one loss team, and if you go 1-3 you still have the big ten title to play for. 

imagine oregon, alabama, boise and texas as out of conference... or LSU, USC, Alabama, and Oklahoma or something crazy like that.  Every game would be awesome and I think recruits would be drawn to that.

#s1 & 2, not this year. Set the expectation going into spring ball that they can be earned (and possibly lost) with on and off field performance for team 134 forward.

Helmet stickers, no. Denard would look like he was wearing a wingless all maize helmet by the B1G championship game.

Helmet numbers, yes- as long as the maize colors match, and only if the seniors agree they want them.

Coordinators? Brady Hoke is my coordinator of coordinators and has absolute decision making authority on the others.

Offense? Defer to above. I'm not smart enough to innovate, but I am smart enough to trust those who are.

If you receive the blessing of #2, you've over performed in multiple facets of the game since your freshman year. As far as #1 goes, if you catch 1,750 yds. your soph. and junior years or put up outrageous overall scoring statistics, your offerd the option of #1 in your senior year.
Alternative jerseys are more for the fans than anyone else. Your team in new battle gear gets you pumped, admit it. Therefore, I'd allow one alternate jersey for a rivalry game and one for a game of the coaches (or fans) choice. If you change it up every year it produces the same shock and awe effect.
Do away with helmet stickers. The Class numbers, like SEAls BUDs class numbers, exemplify the team. Don't focus on individual achievements.
Say you run a 4-3 and let Mattison run whatever the heck he thinks will work on said play.

Alternate jerseys? YES -- but not adidas ones, refer to my suggestion about being the athletic director

Helmet numbers? YES/NO -- only if the players ask to keep them

What kind of offense would you run? Spread -- obviously not going to play Denard in anything else

Sidenote, if I was HC I wouldn't make 1 and 2 mythical jerseys. They would be eligible to anybody who had played a year with the team. If you hype them up too much, nobody would ever wear them.
