If you think being a UM fan is bad, go check out Black Shoe Diaries
Black Shoe Diaries is having a rough one. Just from the front page:
- PSU doesn't get to watch their basketball opener today (COVID)
- Their hockey team just lot to Wisconsin by 4 goals
- We got James Franklin photoshopped with a Bonnie Raitt wig for some reason
- And the kicker: a highlighted BOWL PROJECTION article for an 0-5 football team
Of course, it's 50/50 whether Harbaugh get outmaneuvered by Bonne Raitt Franklin on Saturday, but for now I'm still going to point and laugh. #WeAre all losing it.
November 25th, 2020 at 11:21 AM ^
I cant laugh at any other program as it took our team 3 OTs to beat Rutgers.
November 25th, 2020 at 11:34 AM ^
Things were looking promising when McNamara came in and outscored them 35-10, but then Don woke back up and remembered his defense wasn't supposed to get stops when they needed them.
November 25th, 2020 at 12:39 PM ^
The fact that we were already down 17 kinda hurts that argument. I want Don gone as much as the next guy, but his defense wasn't as much the problem, as we came into the game without 2 starters, and lost 2 more during the game. His defense put players in position to make plays and they just didn't. Letting a QB run through 3 tackles isn't Don Brown. Not high pointing the ball isn't Brown. Missing a sack in the backfield and having the QB scramble 16 yds for a 1st down isn't his fault. These players have to take some of the blame also.
November 25th, 2020 at 1:03 PM ^
Agree about the last drive in regulation - that looked to me for like guys missing some chances (and Vedral, to his credit, making some plays). But one thing that really bugs me about Brown is that we seem to get burned on screen passes in the red zone every week. We have gone to the well way too much with those blitz packages and everyone knows that counterpunch. I knew as soon as they showed screen in the second OT that they were scoring.
November 25th, 2020 at 2:12 PM ^
They get burned on everything in the red zone. Michigan’s red zone defense the last couple seasons is beyond embarrassing.
I don’t think OSU has been forced to try a FG against Michigan since 2017.
November 25th, 2020 at 1:50 PM ^
I honestly don't know how much of a defense's struggles are scheme vs teaching the players proper technique as well as football IQ to understand how to execute the plays, and how much of what falls on the coordinator vs the position coaches vs the head coach. But it did seem like Cade added a spark to the whole time, both sides of the ball, as if they suddenly felt they were playing for something. And there was a moment where the whole team seemed to have an identity, until that last drive.
November 25th, 2020 at 4:29 PM ^
The tackle on the goal line for the 2pt was just awful. That’s a freshman body not physically or mentally ready to put the hammer down
November 25th, 2020 at 2:35 PM ^
Exactly we are in no position to laugh at another football program
November 25th, 2020 at 6:30 PM ^
This is not the same Rutgers team as years past. Michigan clearly found something with the qb change. Most of you are insufferable fans.
November 26th, 2020 at 4:07 PM ^
Uh, 2-3 beats 0-5 anytime. A W is a W is a W....
November 25th, 2020 at 11:22 AM ^
2020 man! And you think that's bad? How about Wisconsin?! They have a team that looks much better than they expected. They will barely get to see it play, and it will be ineligible for what passes for a post-season because of game cancellations.
November 25th, 2020 at 11:33 AM ^
Much better than they expected? They’ve beaten Michigan and Illinois. How low were the expectations?
Although I do feel for them getting the Minnesota game canceled because it seems like a guaranteed rivalry win
November 25th, 2020 at 11:48 AM ^
Did they expect to beat Michigan by 38 points on the road? It wasn't obvious before the season that we would be in this position.
November 25th, 2020 at 11:58 AM ^
Guaranteed W in a rivalry game...Who loses those? Michigan and not Ohio State.
November 25th, 2020 at 5:51 PM ^
It also wasn't obvious before the season that we would be down to 2nd and 3rd string players in so many positions.
November 25th, 2020 at 12:41 PM ^
Yeah, really how good are they really. They beat 2 bottom feeders and lost to Northwestern, and we really don't know how good they are.
November 25th, 2020 at 11:33 AM ^
Meh, I’d switch places with Wisky in a heartbeat (football-wise). I don’t feel sorry for them or their fans one bit. It’s nobody’s fault but their own that their entire team managed to get covid.
At least when they’re on the field they play competent football with a coherent strategy on both sides of the ball. We, on the other hand, are such a mess than we need 5 games to identify our best qb, jump offsides because the opposing qb claps his hands, and needed 3 OTs to beat fucking rutgers.
November 25th, 2020 at 11:45 AM ^
Better late than never.
November 25th, 2020 at 12:39 PM ^
It’s their fault that they got covid? Jesus. It’s the fault of colleges for making players play and students be on campus during a pandemic. But, yeah, blame the players.
November 25th, 2020 at 1:38 PM ^
I don't think students were on campus, but I agree to an extent. Blaming anyone for getting disease during a pandemic is kinda ignorant.
November 25th, 2020 at 12:17 PM ^
I think Northwestern beating them 17-7 just about ends all of the Wisconsin is Elite hype. Turns out us and Illinois just suck big time
November 25th, 2020 at 11:31 AM ^
I’m all for joining in on the PSU schadenfreude train but given our own circumstances, this just feels wrong. In fact, everything that has happened in 2020 has felt wrong.
Let’s just make it to 2021 and circle back if we need to...
November 25th, 2020 at 11:32 AM ^
People here should be rejoicing... they still haven't appreciated Cade's performance, and what we now have going forward. This is a kid a year into program and comes in and flawlessly throws four TDs on the road, with a new OL....
November 25th, 2020 at 11:39 AM ^
I assume this is sarcasm, right?
November 25th, 2020 at 11:40 AM ^
Against Rutgers?
November 25th, 2020 at 1:16 PM ^
But it was against rutgers -- could be like milton's game against minnesota. Need more games before assessing if he's legit good or just better than milton.
November 25th, 2020 at 1:40 PM ^
Well Milton didn't do it against Rutgers. Having said that, let's just see if he can continue to improve and at least stabilize the position for next year.
November 25th, 2020 at 2:17 PM ^
Agree that it remains to be seen and he would come down a bit but the throws Case made are nothing like what milton made hay with against Minnesota
November 25th, 2020 at 11:40 AM ^
It’s not schadenfreude. It’s misery loves company.
November 25th, 2020 at 4:52 PM ^
Miserable company.
November 25th, 2020 at 11:40 AM ^
honestly, just going to black shoe diaries is bad enough whether they're winning or losing. those people are nuts.
November 25th, 2020 at 12:47 PM ^
For real. At least here at MGo we're rational and courteous /s
November 25th, 2020 at 1:14 PM ^
Now fuck off.

The Bowl projection article is somewhat funny --- all the projections are blank.
The NCAA rules for Bowl eligibility in 2020 are that there are no rules. Everybody eligible! So postseason dreams remain for PSU (and everybody else)!
On a tangent, it was announced yesterday that the 2020 New Mexico Bowl will be moving --- to be played in Frisco, Texas. However, it will still be called the New Mexico Bowl.
Now, there's an opportunity there. The DFW Metroplex is not the Land of Enchantment and it never will be. So they really ought to rename the game for one year to the "2020 Flush this year down the Toilet Bowl" and invite, say, Penn State and Florida State.
November 25th, 2020 at 12:15 PM ^
November 25th, 2020 at 12:27 PM ^
There is $$$ to be made. Even on the Weedeater type Bowl games. They will push forward.
November 26th, 2020 at 12:26 AM ^
The expert picks section was comical too. I think the closest prediction was 28-21 UM with most suggesting an absolute blowout.
How down are they on PSU? We beat a team that is 1-27 in Big Ten play and it took triple over time to do it.
I don't think we're blowing out anybody.
November 25th, 2020 at 11:47 AM ^
Michigan is no better and PSU has been unlucky to post a 0-5. They are 2-3 aka Michigan type of team this year.
However, if Mcnamara can ball again Michigan is decidedly better. Remains to be seen.
I am not laughing. While Franklin is Janklin around these parts, this just shows coaches aren't stupid and it's a weird year.
November 25th, 2020 at 12:21 PM ^
You are what your record says you are. Their record says they are 0-5.
Now that's not to say that they couldn't beat us, because we suck too.
November 25th, 2020 at 12:17 PM ^
This will be a very very close game. I kinda expect PSU to win, simply based on their receivers being better than our conerbacks. I feel like no Paye, Hutchinson, McGrone, and Hawkins.....no Ambry Thomas......a group of inexperienced freshmen and a sophomores = PSU passing attack looking good (even if they are not their normal selves, either). I wouldn't be surprised if our defense lets us down, and they win. Too much youth, inexperience, and "back ups" being counted on as stars, to expect anything more else.
The X-Factor will be the play of Cade and the offense. If they can move the ball and score (without 3 of 5 starting Offensive Linemen.....that are all also young and inexperienced)....breaking PSU's resolve, then we pull out the win. If they can't.....it'll be a long day.
I hope I'm wrong, and will be rooting for a Michigan win, in a blowout, but I doubt it.
With that said....stranger things have happened. Lol.
Go Blue! Beat PSU!
November 25th, 2020 at 11:41 PM ^
They have a good defense with an average offense vs our bad defense and questionable offense.
I'm taking the good defense generally.
It's a good test for McNamara.
November 25th, 2020 at 12:20 PM ^
It was nice to see Wisconsin thump Penn State the last two nights 6-3 and 7-3. They look to be legit and our sweep in Madison looks even better
November 25th, 2020 at 12:25 PM ^
People should understand that luxuriating in schadenfreude about PSU's current situation just makes a Michigan loss to them that much more likely. It's science.
November 25th, 2020 at 2:07 PM ^
Don is a student of history.
November 25th, 2020 at 2:36 PM ^
Yep. Enough making fun of teams. How is making fun of MSU turning out ? M gets beat everytime. Humility would do this fanbase wonders.
November 25th, 2020 at 12:43 PM ^
How hot is Franklins seat? What’s the likelihood he gets fired?
November 25th, 2020 at 12:49 PM ^
It should be hot but the likeihood that he gets fired is 0% because he has a 40 millon buyout so no chance that PSU would do it unless they have donors who can pony up the cash to do so. Plus, he has better B1G resume than Harbaugh unfortunately.
November 25th, 2020 at 12:54 PM ^
A lot of people think this is the year that a lot of big name coaches get fired but I don't see most ADs rocking the boat unless absolutely necessary.
I'd say his seat is about as hot as Harbaugh's in that it's mostly the fans and alumni who seem to be upset and nothing noteworthy from administration. If they go 0-fer and lose all their games, we'll that's another story.
November 25th, 2020 at 1:16 PM ^
If PSU beats us, then he is safe. They hate us.
