That OPI was a dry fucking by the officials.
January 1st, 2020 at 8:37 PM ^
I have no idea how you make that call in that situation. That is practically a game-ending call on a play that was marginal at best.
January 1st, 2020 at 8:39 PM ^
b/t the officiating, the reviews, the officiating of the reviews, the commercials, and the inability to FF thru the commercials via DVR/On Demand, games are currently unwatchable for me.
1st Qtr today was 48 mins long. to play 15mins of football. That's not a ratio that I'm willing to deal with.
January 1st, 2020 at 8:52 PM ^
They were stuffing more commercials in the breaks today than Santa in to the chimney of an orphanage on Christmas Eve.
It was awful.
January 1st, 2020 at 9:04 PM ^
What service doesn’t allow FF via DVR? That would be enough for me to drop them for a competitor.

Abc
ESPN

fox
the apps. And saving to my shows on ps4
January 1st, 2020 at 10:25 PM ^
Aren't quarters pretty much always 45 minutes long? Pretty standard. I get your points but it's not new
January 1st, 2020 at 8:39 PM ^
Nothing will be done. Nothing will ever be done. The game is run by people who don't think quality officiating is worth making a real investment in.
January 1st, 2020 at 8:39 PM ^
It will never stop until the refs are accountable like everyone else. They need to be publicly graded like the players. They are getting paid, the players aren't....that much.
Whoever makes the first website grading refs will get a lot of subscribers.
January 1st, 2020 at 8:47 PM ^
Replay has just put way too much focus on the refs. It isn’t any better or worse than it has always been, people just talk about it far more and a lot more of the focus of a game is on the refs. If they got rid of replay the refs wouldn’t seem like a big deal anymore.

You are probably right, but what if it gets like Ancient Rome? That is what I am calling for at this point. I didn't see the play, but a play that stood out to me today was the incomplete pass by Shea, that was originally called a fumble. The Umpire was staring right at him, as you could see in the replay. It was not close to being a fumble, yet the POS Umpire didn't rule incomplete. I know it was overturned, but that is not my point. Do your damn job man. These people need to be held accountable. Return to the Roman Empire or start taking their paychecks. If I don't perform at my job, I lose money. FUCK all refs.
January 1st, 2020 at 8:59 PM ^
Throw them in the gladiator ring with Maximus. That will teach them to be accountable. Are you not entertained?
January 1st, 2020 at 8:55 PM ^
"grading them" for the public will change nothing. You make split second calls in micro second. It's just about your angle and how you react in that split moment. No amount of "grading" is changing those variables.
January 1st, 2020 at 8:56 PM ^
Hi John O'neill.
January 1st, 2020 at 9:15 PM ^
You honestly think grading them for a public showing changes their ability in split second decision making?
January 1st, 2020 at 9:37 PM ^
You're right, let's do nothing or even discuss the possibility of doing anything...
January 1st, 2020 at 9:39 PM ^
Yes, John, I do. When their job is on the line to make correct calls, you bet your ass they will make better decisions. There is no accountability for referees. The evidence is pretty obvious, just look at the 2016 game against the Suckeyes. Patting guys on the ass and shit. Come on my man, you can't be serious. Hold them accountable and they will pay attention better. That is being generous. I truly believe that many of them cheat on purpose. Not a ton, but a little call here and a little call there to help sway the outcome to their liking is obvious. It is human nature to favor one side over the other or one person over the other. Refs do it also and if they were publicly graded they would be better cause that would reflect on them a lot more.
January 1st, 2020 at 11:07 PM ^
My family is a NFL white hat. I can tell you with a 100% confidence they don't give a fuck who wins. Blowing calls isn't ok but they are graded and need to keep a certain standard. It's extremely changing. Try high school football and let me know how easy it is.
January 2nd, 2020 at 12:36 AM ^
Are you a politician? Because I can't tell what side of the argument you are on.
January 1st, 2020 at 9:53 PM ^
you're right. grading one's papers and exams does nothing to improve one's performance in class. nor nielsen ratings for tv. nor sales reports for salesmen. i could go on and on.
January 1st, 2020 at 11:01 PM ^
BTW they graded on each call. Which effects their bowl game they get, which effects their biggest pay day of the year. They are left accountable, you guys just want everyone fired for anything. It's ridiculous.
January 1st, 2020 at 8:40 PM ^
And the call on Hutchinson?
January 1st, 2020 at 8:43 PM ^
That call was a big momentum killer for us.
January 1st, 2020 at 8:45 PM ^
He drove the Qb into the ground. Flag every time
January 1st, 2020 at 8:46 PM ^
I watched Chase Young do it all year without a flag.
January 1st, 2020 at 8:50 PM ^
By rule it’s a penalty. You can’t compare the refs of this game today to big ten refs that have orders to push osu through
January 1st, 2020 at 9:06 PM ^
Sure. That's how Chase Young won the Bednarik award.
January 1st, 2020 at 8:48 PM ^
He did absolutely nothing wrong on that play. He got penalized for footballing.
January 1st, 2020 at 8:53 PM ^
No he drove the qb into the ground with all of his weight landing on the qb. That’s a penalty. Read the rules.
January 1st, 2020 at 8:57 PM ^
disagree re: driving the QB into the ground. as he makes contact and initiates the push over of the QB it looks like he is intending to do that. but he does not pile drive the QB and in fact goes over the top of the QB's right shoulder and rolls away, no big crush on impact. it was excellent body control by a big guy and a heads-up play.
January 1st, 2020 at 9:00 PM ^
So you saw all that at real speed watching it once?
January 1st, 2020 at 9:25 PM ^
So are you saying that it was a penalty, or just “looked like” a penalty?
January 1st, 2020 at 10:14 PM ^
It was a penalty by the rules. If that happens to Shea, all of you sing a different tune.
January 1st, 2020 at 8:59 PM ^
What my college white hat connection said about the Hutchinson call.
"I'm ok with the call. He didn't have to drive him at the end. Just finish the play/hit without driving your shoulder pad into his face. That call will be supported"
January 1st, 2020 at 10:52 PM ^
Could have just as easily called intentional grounding on that play.
January 2nd, 2020 at 4:23 AM ^
That call pissed me off so much.
I was yelling at the TV -- I knew it would have huge impact on momentum of the game.
To me, Michigan seems one of the unluckiest teams I watch. All teams get bad calls here and there. Michigan's bad calls are all like a purposeful and surgical excision of a critical element of morale or momentum.
Yes, I know that all this is filtered through my biased perspective.
But I need to rant!
January 1st, 2020 at 8:40 PM ^
Can’t wait for the refs don’t lose games crowd to show up. “Listen if Wisconsin would have played a perfect game, they win.”
Officials affect games.
January 1st, 2020 at 8:41 PM ^
Might be helpful if you posted a little detail about what happened, why it was a bad call, what the explanation was, and why that explanation was wrong. I mean, if you're going to go to the trouble of a post anyway...
January 1st, 2020 at 8:47 PM ^
twins left, with both X and slot starting out straight. X's defender basically cuts X off/jams him, and X pushes back, then slides outside a bit. meanwhile, the ball is thrown to the slot guy who gets the first down. then doesn't, because of the flag. as mentioned above, horrible call and even if it is somehow defendable, you can't make that call at that critical time of the game. candidly, i think oregon got a couple of calls in the 2nd half that benefitted them and they probably didn't deserve.
January 1st, 2020 at 8:53 PM ^
Thanks XM. That is bizarre considering how few actual, blatant pick plays ever get called for OPI.
January 1st, 2020 at 8:49 PM ^
Wisconsin trails by one and faces a 3rd and 5-ish at their own 30 with only a few minutes left in the 4th. They convert it by pass, but a ref throws a flag for OPI on another receiver in the area. It wasn’t a conventional pick play at all, but rather the DB jumped in front of the receiver and he ran into the DB. It didn’t look like much at all, and shouldn’t have decided the game.
January 1st, 2020 at 8:49 PM ^
Fair. I was watching Wisconsin/Oregon and in that zone. 3rd and 10, Wisconsin has the ball, they throw it for a 1st down but officials ruled it offensive pass interference. Phantom call, even the normally deferential Herbie disagreed with the rules expert on air who supported the on field officials

Officials have something against the Big Ten
January 1st, 2020 at 8:47 PM ^
Yes, because the Big 10 is associated with the north. Watch these SEC ACC refs every time.
January 1st, 2020 at 8:43 PM ^
As an OSU fan I fucking agree.
January 1st, 2020 at 8:45 PM ^
This post should have been written with an asterisk.
any call that goes against Ohio State is a good call.
January 1st, 2020 at 8:50 PM ^
So you finally agree that the JT was short? Thank you.
