I'll admit it, I thought it got played because they are a local band, and Dave Brandon preferred them to Insane Clown Posse.

Other than "Big Money Hustlas" I can't think of anything even remotely tolerable from ICP.

Oh come on "stuck her with my Wang" would be intimidating between downs.

Im sure there is a conspiracy to play terrible music over and over.. The crowd stands lifeless as to say to our opponents "look we dont care either"...

Jack White threw Detroit under the bus and you need to fuck right off if you're on his dick. Go be a Vols fan or some shit.
January 15th, 2012 at 9:20 PM ^
That's a nasty remark, but your signature and photo are so awesome that I gave you a +1.

It's rough, but White had the opportunity to do a LOT of good work with the Detroit music scene :x

Jack DID do a ton for the Detroit music scene when he was here, and has continued to do so after he went to Nashville.
-He's released singles by several Detroit-based artists, giving them national recognition in the process. Heck, The Thornbills didn't even have a record out yet when he picked them for the Blue Series. The next Blue Series release is from a Detroit teenager who's making a splash in the local club dance scene.
-Last year, when the first three Stripes LP's got rereleased, one of the locations where they sold the limited-run split-color records was out of the trunk of a car in front of an abandoned firehouse in Southwest Detroit, with all proceeds going to a local church. What a terrible guy he must be.
-One of his goals at Third Man is to eventually rerelease everything he's ever had a part in, which means a good chunk of his production and side-project work in Detroit is going to actually get a national audience this time around instead of a bunch of rare singles and albums from bands pretty much only Detroit fans know and love.
It's cool to bash Jack White, but the long and the short of it is that he felt he had reached his ceiling in Detroit, wanted to do something new in a new place, and went for it. And I think, with TMR, he's reaching a broader audience than he ever has, and he's been more than accomodating in bringing a lot of really great Detroit acts to the national scene.
And, as a side note, Meg still lives in the area.

do you think every time Jack White watches sports he thinks "how the hell did I put up with such a shitty drummer for so long?"
January 15th, 2012 at 8:57 PM ^
Well, they were married for part of that time.
It's still amazing that they got by as a two-person group. Jack White did a crazy amount of work.
January 15th, 2012 at 9:09 PM ^
yes. essentially all of it.
though since the band broke up he's probably done even more work. Dude has 2 bands, his own record label, produces a lot the acts under his label (including Conan O'Brien), and acts.

I seriously hate that song so much now. I can't believe how much it gets played
January 16th, 2012 at 5:28 PM ^
It is overplayed. But it is still a great song. It's not it's fault.

haha if you want to avoid mainstream then bash sweet caroline, it doesn't even pump up the crowd. We have lots of original stuff its ok to include something that works to pump up the crowd every now and then.

+1 and I know I'm in the minority here, but I never liked the blues brother song (except when I saw Denard doing it)
January 15th, 2012 at 9:55 PM ^
I hope you don't mean you like pre-programmed electronic disco.
January 15th, 2012 at 10:06 PM ^
Unfortunately, research suggests that by 2016, the blues as we know it will be only heard at your local library...
January 16th, 2012 at 12:00 AM ^
Research also suggests we'll be lucky to have a local library in 2016.

You want originality? I'll give you originality. How many other venues have the chuzpah to bust out "Why don't you Fill me up Buttercup" with less than five minutes to go against their most hated rival?
Now that's originality my friend. Not many schools would dare to go there.

After the game I met up with my Uncle and Grandma (who were both also at the game in different sections) and after the initial conversation about how awesome beating Ohio is, we talked for like 10-15 minutes about what the soundboard guy was thinking with that selection. Is there a back story or something? Or was that just the worst soundboard selection of all time?
January 16th, 2012 at 8:32 AM ^
Hoping that my sarcasm meter doesn't need to be recalibrate but ... The song title is "Build Me Up Buttercup" by The Foundations.
January 15th, 2012 at 8:42 PM ^
Absolutely hate that fucking song.
January 15th, 2012 at 8:54 PM ^
I vote for Nyan Cat.
January 15th, 2012 at 9:20 PM ^
I second this suggestion.

Third that

I can tolerate once or twice per game, but I've counted over 8. Have you no shame, Special K?
January 15th, 2012 at 11:16 PM ^
I think of music that gets much more out of its bassline(s) than mere driving energy.
January 16th, 2012 at 12:16 AM ^
but where did the name Special K come from?
For that matter, what about Tacopants?
January 16th, 2012 at 7:39 AM ^
Love the Stripes, and while I think we have a bigger claim to the song than PSU (with Jack's and Meg's Detroit roots), I can't help but think that UM is copying Beaver Stadium every time I hear it played at the Big House.
January 16th, 2012 at 5:30 PM ^
Zombie Nation is more their thing. They can have that. I don't hear that much at Michigan stadium.
January 16th, 2012 at 8:13 AM ^
Q: Does the band and/or record label get royalties from every single instance that song is played in any stadium? Because that would be facebook money I would imagine.
January 16th, 2012 at 10:21 AM ^
generally it is less than 30 seconds that it is played which means it qualifies as "fair use" IIRC.
