How to get autographs? (specifically Beilein in this case)

Submitted by buddhafrog on November 30th, 2018 at 1:13 PM

I know this is an odd post, but I'm hoping to get some advice, suggestions, or stories of failure. I figure there might be a handful of folks out there who are curious about this question.

I'm trying to get a Beilein autograph of a photo I took.

I live in DC and was able to go with my son to every game of the 2016 B1G Tourney. I'm 47, and that was the best sports experience I've had in my life in part b/c we won, in part b/c of the crazy plane drama, and mostly b/c I shared it with my high school son (side note: while skipping school to attend he saw his teacher/basketball coach at the game taking a "sick day" - they both agreed to keep it on the down low.)

I still have the tickets - including the game where Beilein became the all time MBB wins leader in UM history.

I want to mount these four tickets with an autograph of a photo I have of Beilein celebrating the Tourney Championship and give it to my son.

HOW????? I live out of state. I've searched but can't find any reasonable way to do this.

Does anyone know if this is possible? Any advice?

Thanks all, apologies for such a personal post.

Go Blue.

Back in 2012, the AD had a "Coaches Tour" in which David Brandon and a group of coaches from various sports (including Hoke and Beilein) went on a nationwide tour and met with alumni clubs in various major cities (Chicago, New York, LA, SF, etc). Any alum could register for a reasonable fee and meet the coaches, pose for pictures, get autographs, etc. It was pretty neat, and one of the initiatives for which Brandon deserves some credit (notwithstanding the other terrible aspects of his tenure). I don't know if that's still a thing, but if it is, that would be one opportunity (though they don't take place until the summer, for obvious reasons).

Beyond that, you might want to try just calling Beilein's assistant and asking.

unfortunately, it's all about going to the autograph events these days. Back in the day you could just send in a letter with some hockey cards and come back with autographs from Gretzky or anybody -- not anymore.

I would print an extra picture for safekeeping (I'm assuming you have the film/file still), then mail one to Beilein with a letter basically repeating your above post, along with a SASE to send it back to you.  You can likely find the MBB or AD office address on the Michigan site somewhere.  I'm willing to bet he'll happily sign it and return to you.

His charity is the St. Louis Center for Boys out in Saline - the place I worked at in the early 90's while a student! (In fact I used to bring the boys to Crisler for Women's games and would sometimes meet the Fab Five afterwards when they had practice, and the way Jalen Rose connected to those kids with very visible/uncomfortable disabilities will always make me respect him.) So yeah! I'll drop that as well.

Or contact with private message someone (like on Instagram or Twitter...) that goes to most of the game, and have a way to interact with close peeps of B.

Maybe that say person, would print your photo and your letter, and make a returned envelop with your address and a stamp and would hand it to a very very very trustworthy person he shared with B.

And would not even ask for $100 - Not even a Thank you...

Because, well every people in the country is extremely nice and always ready to help...  Even Immigrant, you know...

Last time I went UM basketball game vs Rutgers in NJ, Coach Beilein and Walton did some interviews after game and then signed autographs for some kids. Maybe you can try the same thing after either Rutgers or Maryland game.

Friend - I can do it. Call me at (310) 477-6565. Advise my assistant that answers the phone that you are an investor and you are seeking a way to help me grow my fortune in exchange for a minimal deposit of $300 via Western Union, all in exchange for a signed picture. Let me know your mind on this,,

My 5 year old daughter and I wrote him this letter last year...https://drive.google.com/open?id=1iyAEt8Kb0I760GPgmBGqQVRTvkuuuSm1Xw4RILSVu74

He not only responded with a letter back but a signed photograph of himself.

My daughter was blown away and now we watch all of the basketball games together.

Just send him the photo in a self-addressed stamped return envelope. Ask him to sign it and tell him why. He either will do it and send you the photo with his signature on it or he will just return the photo without a signature either way you have tried. I would send a picture of the tickets also

A couple thoughts...coach B certainly has an assistant.  Perhaps try to reach her/him and ask for their help.  People in those roles are typically both militant about keeping their report free of the bs, but also helpers of well-intentioned people.  Also, people possessing the character that coach has will have zero problem signing what you send and getting it back to you.  I have done this a few times with those i have looked up to through the years and it has never failed.
