Hockey CC: Mike Babcock
let's look at some of the info here.
- Contract expires after this season.
- Made spontaneous comment out of nowhere about being on the Michigan bench a year ago, later dismissing it as a joke.
- this posted in a front page post by Brian back when those comments were made-
Red Berenson has two years left on his contract and says this will be his last one. Speculation about his replacement has been rife. Veritably so. Folks around the program have been chattering about Red Wings coach Mike Babcock taking over for a few years now, primarily Michael Spath at the Wolverine but also from guys at the Daily:
@MichiganHockey @YostBuilt @cdbarker FWIW, in 09 I heard from multi. ppl. closely tied to Red when I covered UM that MB would be successor.

people jumped up and down on here and all over the country saying Harbaugh to Michigan was a pipe dream. And it happened. Could Hackett pull it off?

Red is the last man standing. Let him retire before we decide who to hire as our next coach.

This picture makes me sad.

Michigan legend, Michigan legend, um...Harvard sports legend?

Even with them, I wouldn't inch past 5%. The odds-on favorite to follow Red will be Mel Pearson

Jim Hackett is never going to convince a successful pro coach to leave the pro ranks to come and coach at Michigan.
Quit drinking and go to bed.

Original poster: No offense, but this thread is one of the dumbest fking threads ever posted here at MGoBlog for reasons that are obvious to most rational people. Either you posted it because a) you are a narcissist looking for attention or b) you truly are dumb enough to try to weakly correlated Harbaugh to Babcock, the $150 million dollar football program to a hockey program which probably LOSES money, what Michigan can pay the hockey coach vs. the $5+ million that Babcock will receive in the NHL....etc.
Why would Babcock do this? WHY? For the love of "hockey"? Gezee..shut the fu already.

I am unconvinced about the likelyhood of such a hiring.
If this is the 1st Hockey: CC thread, that sucks. What we need is: Pearson (obvs), guy from Union (not a fit IMO, but people mention him), guy from Prov who built up Union (eh), etc etc
I'd be amazed if Babcock would leave the Wings for college unless a lot more changes for both sides in the next couple of months.

Just checked out his bio... obviously a really good coach, but he's moved around constantly, and seems like his orientation is more to the pros than the college game.

Blashill is more likely to wind up in Detroit.

For Michigan to do this they would have to capture lightning in a bottle for the second time. That being said, it would be pandamonium.

About a year early on this thread.

Just can't see this happening, Babcock has no roots, no connection, no nothing, not even citizenship with UM
