Hello: Scott Sypniewski (long snapper)
According to Nesbitt. Long snapper from Illinois in the 2013 class. Says full scholarship.
Link:Hello — RT @TheChrisRubio: Long time Rubio Long Snapper Scott Sypniewski (IL, '13) has committed on full scholarship to #Michigan!
show the guy some love. I too question the decision to give him an always-valuable scholly with our quota fast-approaching, but you can't not be happy for the guy. Plus giving some credit to a quality long-snapper is always a good idea; otherwise the only time you hear about them is when they screw up.
Now if we were Alabama, we'd take commits from 6 longsnappers and have them duke it out for the scholarship. The other five would be diagnosed from whatever injury you can possibly get from longsnapping
being happy for the young man and being perplexed at the situation. I'm sure most people are pretty happy for him, hell I wish I could have been good enough at something to make a D1 football team. But this isn't his Facebook wall or Twitter account, its the place where we go to discuss. So the fact that the overall attitude of the thread is confusion is pretty understandable.
a place where you don't need to login to see the comments. A place that is tracked by Google. If you Googled your name and it said "Who is this guy? He doesn't merit a scholarship," it would piss you off a bit, no? Be happy for the kid and know that it was the right decision because it was made by the head football coach at the University of Michigan, FERGODSAKES.
I am thrilled for the kid. I remember the day I received my acceptance letter and ran around my house screaming and hollering.
The fact remains that this is a Michigan sports blog, where we are 100% allowed to question and comment on every minute detail we deem important enough to discuss. If anything, I hope this motivates him to become, you know, better and spinning perfect spiral backwards. But if this really did piss him off, he may need some thicker skin. We are not questioning this young man of not being any good at his craft, which I am sure he is fantastic at doing. We are questioning why the staff felt a pressing need to give a full scholarship, you know, roughly $160,000 of tuition money (out of state, roughly 40k....) and a spot on the team to a long snapper when other roster holes may be of much greater importance.
otherwise the only time you hear about them is when they screw up.Unless they somehow magically end up with the ball and a first down after a botched field goal attempt amidst a collective "What just happened? Who is that guy?" from the fanbase.
He said he went to 9 games last year. I'm jealous.
Congrats to him. Surprising offer, but we aren't hurting too bad for other positions. Hope he does a good job throwing the ball backwards.
Really guys, I don't get the fuss. The staff just got to 20 scholarship committments. If there was ever a time to give a kid like this a scholarship, then this is it. More yet, clearly they think they are in 100% luxury recruitment mode. I'm sure they'll use the rest of the commitments differently. But I see no reason to be anything but trusting in the coaches and proud to have another future scholarship athlete in the family.

Don't try to dissuade me from this notion. My fingers are already in my ears and I'm shouting lalalalala as loud as I can.
...was great as it was, but imagine what it had been like with a long snapper like Scott Syp. Will had better practice catching the damn ball!
/s
Ok, I get it. He snaps it, runs back and catches it, then punts for a 55 yard average. He must be a solid FG kicker too. Money from inside 55 yards. Magic number, that 55 is.
Woke up with hopes of a Cravens commitment. I'll see you a 5* safety and raise you an unknown long snapper. I......can.....barely........contain.......my excite.....ment.......
The question is: can he get a first down as an eligible receiver on a botched field goal attempt in which the holder throws the ball up blindly and it bounces off a defensive lineman's shoulder into his general vicinity?
I'd rather have another scholarship quarterback. George Morales was our last (1 year) scholarship LS and he never even won the job.
I'd rather have Bobby Boucher, or some other kid to provide players with some high quality H2O.
It can't be an academic schollie because applications for the '13 class can't even be submitted yet.
so we have 3 kickers on scholie and a long snapper???? I can see 2 scholies being used for ST but 4 for 3 positions?
We currently only have 20 openings and we're expected to sign 23-24 so one player isn't going to move the needle.
Because we're already anticipating losing 3-4 players. If one player is on his way out that's built in to the 3-4 number.
Agreed.
and I've never seen a walk-on on our commit last like that so I have to assume he is a scholarship player. Why....I don't know.
Congrats to him obviously, but something tells me that a guy without a rivals profile might've just taken the walk-on offer
sees fit to offer a scholly to a long snapper than FERGODSAKES you better back him up on it or you will be pointed at by all his ten fingers and toes!! That much pointing will kill any mortal man so tread softly my friends....tread softly.
there has to be someone leavng that we just haven't heard about yet. and if not oh well I trust hoke and crew
does not mean we need to add a LS.
Doesn't make sense to me, but what do I know.
I just hope we've got room for some skill guys so my Sypniewski is snapping to our field goal kicker, not our Punter..
But since we all know commits come in pairs, should we be buckled up right now?
Please trust the coaches and stop freaking out people. Welcome aboard Scott Go Blue
I trust the coaches, but it's hard to understand this one.
There has to be reasoning behind this that we don't see. Trust the Hoke.
This guy isn't even in the Rivals databse. Michigan's class lists him twice because they're scrambling trying to get him on the database.
Well, a little strange to see a LS get a scholarship. But welcome! GO BLUE!
I am excited about this scholarship offer. All it shows me is that the coaches know they have hit nearly every spot of need and are looking to polish the team by having no errors on special teams. While it certainly isn't a glamour position, the impact that good LS have on a game can be invaluable. With one scholarship, we secured this faction of our special teams for the next coming years. Check out the reviews on him, they are all glowing. As for another recruit getting this scholly, the coaches know much more than we do. Either there is extra attrition, or we are not in good shape with prospects who they value higher than this LS. Nothing about this bugs me
You say that now. However, if Michigan has to turn away a highly rated WR or DB, because of this... well, I think it will bug you, just like the rest of us.
Why not wait? Why the rush to offer him? Was another BCS school going to steal him from Michigan?
This isn't about the kid, we all wish him well. It's about the limited spots, that Michigan has available. As a Lions fan, I have seen this type of head scratching move, many times on draft day. I trust Hoke, however, this is... odd.
What the hell is wrong with you?
Whatever the hell is wrong with me, is apparently whatever the hell is wrong with the coaches
Why is it that so few people on this board can detect sarcasm?
Well maybe he can snap the ball like Zak DeOssie, has hands like Treadwell and speed like Denard but faster.
Thanks, Fred. Good to hear from you, as always.
the fuck....
