his sophomore season ended. He is going into his junior year.
Folks were crying about the collapse of recruiting now we have QBs for 2015 and 2016.
I think it is very interesting that Borges was pursuing Mr. deWeaver and Nussmeier, after a very through four days, agreed.
Maybe, just maybe, this coaching staff has recruiting under control.
Welcome to Michigan Mr. deWeaver may you exceed your expectations.
Throws are consistently on the wrong shoulder, not enough velocity and the spirals aren't always great. Unless he greatly improves his arm in the next 2-4 years I'd say he's a depth player.
Just my analysis. Obviously we're looking at 5 years before he even hits the field but as of now he doesn't have the mechanics. On short and long throws he short arms the ball leading to a lot of hang time. At the collegiate level a DB will close on that throw and deflect or intercept.
Well, I'll just put it down to Nussmeier's inexperience with QBs.
Remember, you're looking at SOPHOMORE tape. The kid started on Varsity, on a good team, as a FROSH. By the time he would be in line to even get consideration as a starter, he'll have 3 full seasons to develop, and probably 5. Did you grow any stronger between 17 and 20? 17 and 22? I did, and I sure as hell didn't have an S&C coach like he'll have.
We have to remember that he is only going into his JR yr of High School. He has many great qualities of a good QB already. Hopefully he will continue to mature physically.
The best prospect named after the son of God since Jesus Shuttlesworth. Good thing we didn't have to get into a recruiting battle with Chick Deagan and the Tech U hostesses.
ha great reference...gotta love the big state vs tech u battle
The old Jesus & Finkelstein joke. Now, they might have to add a line about Jesus working under the assumed name of Messiah deWeaver.
Hail to the Future Michigan Wolverine! And as Finkelstein The Tailor might say, Go Blue-ish!
he has made tremendous strides.
There is a writeup on MLive where they spoke to Allen Trieu and he had this comment.
"But then he shows up at an Elite 11 camp in Columbus a few weeks ago, and he's 200 pounds-plus. That's made a tremendous difference. Not only does he look like a college quarterback, but he's improved his arm strength, he's improved his mechanics, he used to have a side-arm release but he's worked on that. He looks really, really good right now, he's been impressive lately. Not only that, he's a very smart kid, I found out today he's on track to be his class valedictorian at Trotwood. ... He's got some intangibles."
Don from Mgoblog asked Sam Webb about it on the recruiting roundup and he also said he is much improved in some of the areas that magnus and Space Coyote have mentioned. He said Nuss really likes him and was telling people how he seems incredible upside to him. Sam also pointed out that Michigan was in very good shape for Costello and still would be if Michigan decided to go for a second quarterback, which he doubts. This was not Michigan taking someone out of desperation. He said it sounds like Nuss thinks this young man is going to be a good quarterback.
In the Mlive article, Trieu also said Michigan had options.
"They've been in on some really good quarterbacks and some of them are extremely interested, but I think this is going to be it," Trieu said. "Looking at how they've recruited quarterbacks recently, under Brady Hoke, they've taken one a year. I don't see them taking two, I don't see that making sense for them.
I don't think some of you are giving Nuss enough credit given his track record for working with quarterbacks. From what I am seeing, he's someone who is going to be moving up the boards quickly.
Kids improve, and they can improve fairly rapidly with the right coaching. I think the concern is always going to be if they can take it from a controlled setting to a game setting. You hear a lot about Malzone looking great in one on one drills and the like, very controlled settings, and then struggling a bit in some of the other settings (relative to other guys). That's because he's still improving on his mechanics and engraining them in his muscle memory, rather than reverting. deWeaver will have a similar concern coming up.
Don't get me wrong, improving in controlled settings is the first step, it doesn't just change over night. But you need tons of reps and constant coaching so that you don't revert. I'll be interested in seeing both Malzone's and deWeaver's highlight films from next year to see if those things are transferring into game film.
We've been awaiting your return.
