Welcome to UM! From UM of West!!!

Amazing. One good corner from portal, Hill from Illinois should round up 2023.

After all the concerns about this class, we suddenly look stocked....

I haven’t heard a good old Arthur P Friday afternoon howl followed by Deadly Tedly’s “Weekend Warriors” in I don’t know how long.  Or “Fred Bear,” for that matter.

Nugent used to be all over WRIF for you Detroiters!  And his daughter went to U-M IIRC.

Apparently, the plan was to use the transfer portal all along.  Why play in the mud that is recruiting star-based NIL when you can grab players who have proven they are worth the NIL money.

This is absolutely perfect. We have great young OL depth, and this gives them more time to come together as a unit under experienced starters. Even middle linebackers don't need as much time to develop as OL chemistry does, and after losing starters to injury this year, it's obviously essential to have experienced depth across all positions. Though all of our transfers so far have a high likelihood of starting, I think Nugent is the highest, but all should see a lot of the field in any circumstance.

I'm feeling great about these "portal INs", especially on the O-Line. Hell, we clearly want to have at least 8 starter-quality OL at any one time, so let's stockpile the best players we can bring in.

Now I want to see us bring in a true power back to go with Donovan. I get that we see Mullings in that role, but if we can bring someone more proven in, then we should do that.

TL;DR : PORTAL INs = Good.

I trust the coaches, but honest question: how good was Stanford’s OL this year?

At the end of the day the best 5 will see the field. So whether that’s our recruits or transfers, let the competition begin.

don’t understand PFF OL rankings but Nugent is on their all transfer team.

Nugent’s 80.2 grade this season was the seventh best among centers in college football. The senior particularly excelled as a run blocker, where he earned an 83.7 grade that ranked fourth.

This is Nugent's second straight strong season. Over the past two seasons, his 89.1 run-blocking grade is seventh among FBS centers.

The portal is to college football what juco is to baseball, specifically pitchers. No d1 offered my son more than 60% his senior year.  Two years at a juco and those offers were dam near full ride. Obviously 5 star talent is 5 star talent, but an o lineman at 18 isn’t usually plug and play like a will Johnson.

Remember not that long ago where a freshman Kyle Bosch or Nolan Ulizio were our best options to start? We have 2nd teams now that are vastly better than say the 2013 starting line (which strangely produced 3 longtime NFL starters)

I can hear a bit if Ted Nugent .. with the riffs of Strangelhold playing.  Michigan seems to be an attractive destination for select transfer prospects.  Go Blue!

I see a real advantage, given how the portal works in 2022, to grab a center with 20+ games of starting experience at a power five school, considering how important an experienced center is to our complex run blocking schemes.  It may not seem fair to someone like Crippen, but unless we have a 4/5 star in the pipeline like a Ruiz, I just think that’s how Michigan needs to play it.

Until we can recruit at the level of Bama/UGA/OSU, we’ve got to think outside the box to rebuild our roster each year. Way to go coaches!
