Man, I forgot this was a leap year. Makes sense. Even 1918 wasn't a leap year.
Happy New Year to all! I feel blessed to have gone through this year with everyone on the board.
December 31st, 2020 at 8:32 PM ^

Shameless thread jack...I am a father as of 7pm. Mother and baby girl are healthy despite an early arrival. My kid wanted to be the last surprise of the year.

Yay!!! Welcome to the club!
You won't be perfect, but you'll do the best you can. Ask for help. Nobody has the secret sauce but the village is definitely wise. And, yes, it does take a village.
It's the best job you'll ever have.
December 31st, 2020 at 8:37 PM ^
Uhhhhh, you do realize that 2021 is probably going to be worse, right?
December 31st, 2020 at 10:36 PM ^
Well, 2020 is legal to drink as of Jan 1. That can't be a good sign. Maybe the New Year will not like the taste of alcohol and want to ease back with a toke instead.
January 1st, 2021 at 10:46 AM ^
Based on what? If you're talking COVID, the 1918 Spanish Flu was more than ten times as worse but was pretty much adapted to in a year, and life got back to normal (BTW, I had COVID, and am fine now. Very mild case, and I found out from my doctor that a great many people who have it had it about as mildly as I did. Not trying to start a debate here, but just saying that more people have probably had it than has been reported, which also means that more people are fine than have been reported, but that's another issue for another time....)
If you're talking politics, most likely the incoming Presidential Admin will be like previous ones: do some things that are admirable, do other things that are incredibly foolish and unconstitutional. BTW, only idiots think their Presidential Candidate will do no wrong while in office.
If you're talking about the Great Reset conspiracy, let me quote Mr. Scott from Star Trek, "The more complicated the plumbing, the easier it is to clog the pipes."
I believe in a realistic outlook on life (and as a Christian I know that all this will eventually be done away with), but at the same time I fail to understand people who seem gleeful and desiring of things not improving.
December 31st, 2020 at 8:46 PM ^
Mark my words: 2021 will be worse.
January 1st, 2021 at 1:04 AM ^
There will definitely be some rough months ahead because of the lag factor from COVID infections now, and the economy is going to get worse before it gets better, but at least we will have a way forward to turn the corner which we didn't have a few months ago and that at least is a place to start.

This is not a negbang you Commie
January 1st, 2021 at 12:52 PM ^
Not sure if it will be worse, but it won't be much better. Unless of course Michigan happens to win the Big Dance.
December 31st, 2020 at 8:59 PM ^
The pandemic is awful. Full stop.
But I was able to find a lot of things to appreciate in 2020. Just because the year changes there is no magic switch that will be flipped.
December 31st, 2020 at 9:06 PM ^
Happy new year
December 31st, 2020 at 9:11 PM ^

December 31st, 2020 at 10:17 PM ^
Agreed. I worked from home all year with a beautiful wife who has never once denied me sex. And I didn't have to eat my mother inlaws awful cooking on the holidays.
I'd be just fine doing 2020 over again.
January 1st, 2021 at 1:56 AM ^
I had an international trip planned with my oldest that got cancelled. My kids haven't been able to see their septuagenarian grandparents in person (multiple pre-existing conditions). I haven't held my new nephew.
There's balance between the good (no commutes) and the bad (missing out on limited time with aging/ill parents that we didn't want to put at further risk).
I'd like 2021 to be a little better.
TMH, thanks for making me laugh as hard as anyone ever has. I hope 2021 gives you everything you loved about 2020.

Bad news everyone. Father Time died of covid before he made the handoff to Baby New Year. Now we're stuck in 2020 forever.
December 31st, 2020 at 11:59 PM ^
Goodbye and good fucking riddance 2020!
yeah guys, I realize that just because the calendar is about to read “January 1, 2021” it doesn’t mean things will magically be better. In fact, the first few months are going to be basically the exact same. But here’s to hoping that by June, we’ll be functionally back to normal and by fall we’ll be pretty much totally normal again. Here’s to hope on the horizon in 2021!

Why does my phone say December 32, 2020?
