Happy Birthday, Bo and Bob
God Bless both of their Maize-and-Blue hearts.
Cotton pickin' maize and blue hearts
I really miss them both.
They stopped drinking Oberon 10 years ago when it went mainstream and turned into blue moon.
Yeah, they sold out. I like this new microbrew; you've probably never heard of it.
Gee, thanks BH82!
I hate to have to tell you though that it's NOT my birthday...
Here's a video clip of Bob Ufer looking down from Football's Valhalla:
thats a great clip, but its sad, too. last time for ufer at the big house. God bless him.
It's also my cat's birthday.
Happy 4th birthday, Bo!
MGoBlog on mobile is such an awesome experience—having to wade past ads for “Hot Survivor Contestants” and “Get Rid of Nail Fungus” in order to comment on Schembechler and Ufer definitely sets MGoBlog apart from the crowd.
But it's free, Don. The only free website on the entire internet. You have to insert 75 cents into your monitor to view other sites. Not MGoBlog. It's free. Never has an independent blog been so free. So please, no complaining.
don, i would've figured your pop ups to be about 'bone collecting' and 'football skull sessions', things like that.
If the notion that pop-ups truly were determined by one’s browsing or search habits, I wouldn’t be so cranky about it, because then I really would see ads for skulls, dinosaurs, insects, supersonic bombers of the late ‘50s, natural history, famous WWII battles, heavyweight title bouts, and all the other interesting random shit I look at on the internet.
I’ve never once googled nail fungus or hot Survivor contestants.
So a person's search habits may not really determine if he receives ads for something like erectile dysfunction medication?
Asking for a friend.
That's the scary thing Don. The advertising algorithms are so powerful now that Madison Ave knows you have foot fungus, and a fetish for sexy reality show contestants, even if you don't.
You should probably call a doctor and order a subscription to Entertainment weekly.
Though he denies it, we now know what kind of fungus caused Don's flesh to fall off AND something about his internet searching history and what turns him on
Happy birthday to both of them!
TOTALLY RANDOM, UNRELATED FACT: The last episode of "The Bob Newhart Show" aired on this date in 1978. Don't ask me how I know other than being a huge fan of the show.
+1 for obscure pop culture trivia.
Plus I had an enormous crush on Suzanne Pleshette.
That really was a great show! The last episode ended with a "dream sequence" correct? At least that is how my memory serves me.
You are probably thinking of his second series: "Newhart". That ended with a what is often called the best final episode of any TV series.
Brilliant. Unlike so many sitcoms, which have a bittersweet ending, Newhart went right for the laugh, and they saved the biggest one for the end.
"Go to sleep, Emily ... You know, you really should wear more sweaters."
The organization I used to work for once had Bo as a guest speaker. In honor of this, I wore my UM jersey to the event. (In the sea of business suits, I was pretty noticeable.) As Bo and Brandstatter walked past the check-in desk where I stood, he saw me, jabbed a thick finger at me and barked with a hint of approval, "Hey, Number 12!"
I managed to reply, "Hey Coach" without my voice cracking.
I also managed to stop myself before I dropped and gave him 20. He just had that kind of aura.
I saw Bo once in Jacobson's Department store in the Briarwood Mall. He was buying a tie and I was buying my dad a father's day present. I decided to respect his privacy and did not approach him. He was taller than I would have guessed.
Hey, it’s also my late dog’s birthday. Well, we adopted her at the Ann Arbor Humane Society in mid-May, and they said she was six weeks old, so I assigned this birthday to her. And I didn’t even realize it was Bo’s at the time. Always got her a quarter pounder with cheese to celebrate, and cut it up in her dish. She ate it in about 30 seconds, but always left the pickle behind. Great dog.
I never connected that my son and Bo share the same birthday. Yet another of the many reasons to play "The Team, The Team, The Team" again for him today. He's turning two, what does he care?
This also happens to be the day I tricked my dad into believing he won the lottery.
that didn't go over too well. . .
Fun fact (that most of you already know). Bob Ufer was a world record holder in the 440-yard dash at one time. They also don't run that anymore because they use metric and run a 400 meter, which is 7 feet 8 inches shorter than the 440. But I still think that's awesome.
Such great Michigan men. I painted Ufer's upstairs room when I was in college. His house was green & white (no lie).
and Jumbo too!
Happy Birthday Bo! Hopefully this year we stop trying to run your offense!!!
The above shot was taken at the Big Ten Championships, held in Chicago in March, 1994. I think Ufer is breaking the tape in the quarter-mile.
Dual meet between Michigan and Illinois, 1942 in Ann Arbor. Looks like Ufer is breaking the tape in what I assume is the 440.
No info on what this image shows other than it looks like a meet at U-M. In some competitions Ufer is wearing glasses, and in others he's not.
Ufer wearing his letter sweater in 1950. He'd already been doing the play-by-play for Michigan football for five years by this point.
This was taken at an event honoring Ufer in 1980. Left to right: Bo, some young Robert Redford lookalike who's actually Rob Lytle, Ufer, Fritz Crisler, Tom Harmon, and Ron Kramer.
I doubt Bo was an Oberon guy..... probably PBR
