TOM BRADY BACK TO THE SUPER BOWL WHO NEEDS THE PATRIOTS WHEN YOU GOT THE G.O.A.T.

I think that’s taking it a bit too far. Belichick is an amazing coach. One of the best. But great coaches still need great players to win championships. Just look at Andy Reid. His coaching has received universal praise for the last twenty years but he didn’t win a Super Bowl until Mahomes showed up.

Certainly we can put to rest the bullshit “Belichick made Brady what he is” stuff, but there’s no reason to assume that the opposite must be true. They achieved more together than anyone else in the sport ever has. I still think Belichick is the best coach, just like I still think Brady is the best QB.

Just look at Andy Reid.

Yeah... I'm looking at him and he's a guy that has a 16-14 record in the playoffs vis-a-vis Belichick who is 1-1 in the playoffs without Tom Brady.

LOL.

I'm not sure the point want to make is the point you're trying to make.

Per Wikipedia:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Reid

Big Red was 11-12 in the playoffs before KC took Mahomes in the 2017 draft.

Since then he's 6-2 (though 2021 playoffs) 0.75%.

Belichick is 1-1 prior to getting Brady as you stated. Since 2000 when Brady was drafted and Belichick became the Patriots HC he's 30-11 (0.73%). There's not enough data yet to make an ideal comparison but that doesn't negate the comparison. So far they're both about .500 in the playoffs without great QB play.

So far they're both about .500 in the playoffs without great QB play.

...and without that great QB, Reid still has more wins and playoff success than Belichick.

There's plenty of data.  Your reasoning is bad and you should be ashamed.

Wow, you seem to think this is a knock on Big Red. It's not. Andy is a great coach and so is Bill. Anyone who says otherwise is a fool.

Andy had more playoff successes without Mahomes than Belichick without Brady but the ratios are about the same.

You could also say that Belichick has had more playoff success with Brady than Reid has had with Mahomes. Again the win ratio is about the same.

Yes the data pools are small for both scenarios but the trajectories are very similar.

Glad we don't live in a world where anyone who doesn't agree with you is shamed in the public square.....oh wait.....

I always thought it's one of the phoniest arguments ever. I also don't think nothing was settled in this season other than that the Patriots were ripe for a rebuild and Brady still has something left in the tank. I honestly don't think Brady's 2020 performance level would have been enough to put the Pats in the Super Bowl.

Belichik had a solid career as a defensive coordinator with the Giants; a very average career with the Browns - and a great career with the Patriots - clearly Tom Brady played a huge part - but don't forget Belichik had sense enough to draft him, AND most of all saw enough in training camp to keep three QBs when he had a proven starter in Drew Bledsoe - (4 x Pro Bowls, 2nd team All Pro) - carried Tom Brady and Michael Bishop on the 2000 roster.

The Brady we see in 2021 clearly benefitted from the time spent up in Boston with Belichik.

He's had eight seasons as a head coach without Brady on his roster or not starting (including rookie year and injured year)

He's won a total of one playoff game in those eight seasons, and that's when he was with the Browns

No other time did his team even make the playoffs

You're right, he was the last coach to win a playoff game at Cleveland until this year. Good point. You conveniently also left out his 11-5 season with Matt Cassel.

Look, I understand this is a Michigan blog so the narrative is written, but the bottom line is if you think Brady single handedly made the Patriots into what they were and the front office and Belichick were just happy bystanders, well yeah, just don't try that narrative outside MGoBlog. And if you think one season with Cam Newton proves anything, well, yeah don't bet your career on analytical skills.
