Go Blue! / Today's Rooting Guide
Hi all! Big game here in about an hour. Overall, the bubble was a mixed bag yesterday but the two games we needed to go our way the most (Xavier and Wake Forest) went our way, so I'm good with it. Here's our rooting guide for today:
- Florida and Texas A&M is basically a bubble elimination game. Whoever loses is out. Florida is 2 spots higher on the NET rankings, so I think we're rooting for A&M here.
- TCU is an interesting case. They're 46 on the NET rankings and are playing Texas today. Most brackets have them safely in but they're a team we could pass if they lose today, so go Longhorns?
- For our SOS, we're rooting for Buffalo to beat Akron today.
- Big one here with Miami and Boston College. BC is pulling some March Magic. Miami's NET ranking is pretty awful (61 entering today). A loss to BC would be a big hit to Miami's resume. They are 3 spots behind us on Bracket Matrix. Go BC!
- Marquette and Creighton is another interesting one. Marquette's NET ranking is 37, Creighton's is 66. Creighton is 2 spots ahead of us on Bracket Matrix and Marquette is on the 8 line. We're rooting for Marquette here.
- Go Maryland, Fuck Sparty. Not much else to say (Although a Spartan win probably helps our SOS a bit)
- Oklahoma is starting to creep up in the bubble. They're 42nd ranked on the NET rankings. Let's pop that bubble today! Go Baylor!
- Another big game in regards to our seeding is Notre Dame vs. Virginia Tech. This will be an elimination game for Virginia Tech if they lose but we have a good chance to jump the Irish today if they lose and we win. Either way, this one could affect our seeding.
- We're rooting BIG for UNLV to upset Wyoming. We're about even on the bubble with Wyoming. With a loss here, they're likely out plus it's a nice win for our SOS, as we beat UNLV earlier in the season.
- Speaking of our SOS, we're rooting for Seton Hall to beat UConn today. The more wins for Seton Hall, the better that loss looks (Seton Hall is #34 on NET rankings)
- Behind the Miami / BC game, this might be the most important for us today. We're rooting big for North Carolina to knock off Virginia. This would basically end Virginia's season and bubble chances. With UNC's win over Duke last week, they are safely in. Go Heels.
Sorry for the long post, lots of games today! Go Blue! Let's move up that seed line with a big win today!

Feel bad rooting against Florida since the still have Collin Castleton, but he made his choice (and will still do fine regardless of their tournament outcome).

Yea and I guess the good news with that one is, we're good no matter what direction that game goes. It's one less team on the bubble either way, so feel free to root for Florida if you want. I won't tell anyone lol

I know everyone loves the first two days of the NCAA tournament, but today and tomorrow are two of my favorite college basketball viewing days of the year. And we've already had a couple buzzer beaters and a few OT games the last few days. Hopefully it continues.

Yeah, Championship week, particularly the first two days are quickly becoming on par with the first two days of the tourney for me. There are more games, the stakes are huge for bubble teams and mid/low majors. Fun stuff.

I think our rooting interests change a lot based on whether or not we win today. If we lose, we need VTech and UVA to lose in order to secure a spot in the field. If we win, we probably want Notre Dame and UNC to lose so we can jump a seed line.

Agreed with that. I have a feeling the rooting guide changes a lot, depending on today. Being in Dayton vs. moving up in the seeding order.
It also reinforced why those Xavier and Wake losses yesterday were so critical for us. Even if those teams make it, they are pretty much guaranteed to be in Dayton if so.

We're in.
We want ND to lose regardless, because to hell with ND. UNC I'm fairly indifferent since they're an opponent.

Update at half for us:
- Texas A&M is SMOKING Florida. Up at the under 8 there in the first half.
- Butler and Providence is a low-scoring game. Providence with an early edge. Butler would still have to win 3 games to pull off something insane.
- TCU and Texas is about to tip-off on ESPN2.
Go Blue! Win the 2nd half!

I'm rooting for us
Beat me to it. But you perfectly outlined the full extent of my rooting guide.
This stunning loss really took the wind out of my sails. Now it's wait and see time come Sunday.
Right there with you. These few days are my favorite of the entire college basketball season and now.....just ugh.
Same. Puts a damper on the weekend watching. Hate having to pull for other teams to lose to make sure you get in. I still think they are in and not in Dayton, but a couple bad results and they maybe playing on Tuesday.
This loss really doesn’t change much. Michigan wasn’t going to beat Illinois tomorrow and they’re still in the tournament. Enjoy the weekend :)
Thanks, Nostradamus, I feel at peace now. I would certainly place my bets on us being in the tournament but it's far from a sure thing now. And playing on Tuesday is most certainly in play. The loss changed that aspect for sure.
Well, obviously our result today was not awesome. We have had a few bid stealers lose today, so that's been a positive update.
- Duke just knocked out Syracuse in a brawl
- Same with Providence over Butler
Florida - A&M and Texas - TCU are both really close games near the end.
Need some bubble help today and tomorrow to hopefully stay out of Dayton I think.
Andddd Miami wins on a buzzer beater
