Gelen Robinson in 2014 FB Recruiting Class?
Oddly enough I was talking to my coworker (Purdue Alum/ND Fan), who is also into recruiting and from NW Indiana. He asked me if we were looking at Gelen Robinson... Which made me think he either meant,Glenn "Big Dog" Robinson or current Basketball Recruit Glenn Robinson III.
But, as it turns out, GR3 has a younger brother confusingly named Gelen, who is just a Sophmore... but appears to be pretty good at football. Looks like we could be hearing his name in a few years.
NW Indiana Times, Defensive Player of the Year...
Of course, Robinson is also a very talented wrestler. But his ultimate goal is to play football on Saturdays. And maybe even Sundays.
And this is where he might follow in his brother's shadow. He has gone on trips to Ann Arbor with "Tre." Wearing the classic blue and gold helmet is something that brings a smile to Robinson's face.
"I haven't talked to a lot of colleges yet," he said. "But I do like Michigan."

That's pretty impressive. I hope he doesn't go the wrestling route. Dry humping in lycra doesn't suit him.

Dry humping in lycra is the sort of language that they really appreciate. Give it a shot sometime. Maybe start with Mike Martin.

Wrestling Mike Martin is supposed to make it sound more enticing? Get dry humped and pummeled? No thanks.

Kid looks like a man-child in his picture... Already 6-2, 220.....
Im all for keeping it in the family....

of the article if it hadn't referred to our famous "blue and gold" helmet

i definitely threw up in my mouth a little bit when i read that

26 TFL, 9 Sacks, and 3 fumble recoveries as a soph. I hope he follows in his brothers footsteps

Or did he just refer to Michigan helmets as blue and gold?
December 12th, 2011 at 9:22 PM ^
Yes he mistakenly referred to our colors as blue and gold. He's young and will learn it is MAIZE.

I was already prepped to open this up and neg away for misspelling and general idiocy, but no. I'm assuming this is a Sean-Chone type of situation?

I'm guessing he's still going to get taller considering his family. Sounds like he could be a beast by the time he's a senior.
December 12th, 2011 at 6:15 PM ^
Yeah, if he's 6'2" 220 as a sophomore, he'll almost certainly be a DE in college since he has a really good shot at growing 2-3 more inches.

Here is his 247sports profile.

Wow, it sounds like he can be a real special player in a couple years. I don't know how great NW Indiana football is, but it's over half a million people or more, so there have to be a handful of good football players there and to be DPOY at all, let alone as a soph, is a big deal.
In fact, the #9 player in Indiana is a LB on his same team. He's a first team all-state player and is committed to Mississippi. It's safe to say this kid will be good.

Tis' the season for plentiful pipelines! :D

Northwest Indiana is turning into quite the Michigan pipeline area. I live in the NWI and it's nice to see the kids joining and helping out the good guys.

Michigan way look GREAT to him, remember the Robinson family is very big into academics (RGIII, I THINK graduated early, said he want(s/ed) to go to law school. Also, maybe RGIII was only recruited to Baylor BECAUSE he is from NW Indiana, so less exposure (he was actually recruited to play in C-USA (Houston), but his coach moved up). The name recognition will definitely help his brother.
December 12th, 2011 at 7:20 PM ^
I think you are a little mistaken. GR3 is a Michigan basketball recruit who will be coming in next year and is the older brother of the subject of this thread with whom he grew up with in NW Indiana. RG3 is a completely unrelated quarterback for Baylor who was born in Japan and lived in Texas.

Well if he keeps on winning POTY awards the next two years I think he'll definitely be a UM level talent. Although, curious to see how his body will mature and determine his position. 6'2" sophomore and has height in those family genes.

Pierre Woods, Shawn Crable, Brennen Beyer...Gelen Robinson.
Umm, yes please.

Keep your eyes peeled for Gneln Robinson, 2016 Baseball prospect (total stud).
Word on the street is he's an early candidate to re-define "Beast Mode." Babe Ruth's coffin has already begun quivering.
