Gattis says "the blueprint is out" and "we won't beat ourselves" against OSU again
I'll probably get negged by the mob, but anyone else tired of this nonsense? From Chase calling their 2018 win a "mirage" to Don Brown saying they "better be careful" before the game last year it seems like all this program does is talk.
Corona may limit us to work from home...... but don’t think we’re sleeping! 2019 is over but the lessons learned live on! 2020 we won’t be so kind to beat ourselves ...

You know that finger points at your name, right?
Wow, you sure got me there, dude.

The moral victories.
Going from outright losing seasons or barely above five hundred to 8 wins bring our worst year.
going from getting boatraced by MSU every year to putting a stake in Dantonio.
being competitive again in most other games. Having close games that got out of hand in the second half be to OSU and Bama instead of Toledo and Rutgers.
watching the team do cool things like the spring trips
I’ve had a lot of fun the last five years.
dude, if you can’t take joy in those things find another way to pass your time. Life is to short to be bitter about one game a year.
We lose 3+ every year

Cry more.

Lol. Yup. Was so much better getting our ass kicked under Hoke and RR. I remember when we all wanted to burn down the origram in the 90’s because we went 8-4 twice... wait. No, no we didn’t . We weren’t such pretentious social media aggrandizing schmucks back then
March 21st, 2020 at 12:56 PM ^
Revisionist history. A lot of people were pretty irritated. The media making comments that "The M stands for mediocre". Still managed to beat much better OSU teams somehow though. Also it was three years in a row at 8-4.
Some were. I was on campus and don’t remember anything like this. So I reject your premise. And the B1G wasn’t as good.
Sure, I want to beat OSU. But I’m very happy with the progress we’ve made. We are objectively better than we have been in a long times. But seriously, if you can’t find happiness just stop torturing yourself.
How is the Big Ten better now? OSU won every game except us. PSU went 12-0 in 1994. Northwestern went 10-2 in 1995 and 9-3 in 1996. Wisconsin was always decent. The Big Ten finishes with a similar number of ranked teams now as it did then (5) except we had 6 with Minnesota this year.

We got blown out by OSU ... 60+ freaking points two years in a row...please be quiet until you beat those Columbus bastards.
Does every coach who comes to Michigan get infected by some type of virus that makes them spout off or trash talk when they haven’t accomplished shit? Actions please!
Please stop Gattis.
This shit happens almost every year. Some Michigan coaches or players make impassioned comments about how THIS year is going to be different in THE GAME. Meanwhile OSU, for the most part, keeps their yaps shut and goes about their business with a cold blooded professionalism, culminating in obliterating whatever team we put out there.
Getting utterly dominated like we’ve been the past two years doesn’t fall anywhere near the category of “beating ourselves.” Beating yourself implies that the game was there for the taking and a few critical and preventable errors kept you from victory.
Enough with the fucking talk. Go out and win.
Like there's going to be a football season this year. Bunch of wide eyed optimists.
If the season gets canceled it will hard to be upset.
I prefer this to throwing your starting QB under the bus before the season even starts.
March 20th, 2020 at 10:39 PM ^
Why? People didn't take his comments very seriously at the time and then it became apparent that Patterson deserved to be criticized.
Fuck Ohio
I am really disappointed in this. I believe this points to the overall lack of leadership that is coming from the top. If I were Coach Harbaugh I would impose a gag order on any talk about OSU including the minimum required by the league during the week of the game-and those granted interviews would be "nothing". This losing streak is pathetic. This team and these coaches need to shut the hell up and do their job.
He called a good game last year, but it doesn’t change what’s going to happen next year. We’re going to get out-talented, out-muscled, out-coached, and just all-around out-classed. Especially since the game is in Columbus.
Neg away if you want. I hope I’m dead wrong, but I’m not counting on it. If you think we’re going to even keep it close after what you’ve seen the last two years, much less win, I don’t know what to tell you.
56-24 OSU. We’re going to get our fucking teeth kicked in.
Insert defeatist defense mechanism. If I make shitty predictions I won't be disappointed if something goes wrong and I'll be entitled to be twice as happy when something goes right.
Next time let's hire someone with no confidence.
Fuck you if you're trying to speak a cancelled season into existence.
March 20th, 2020 at 10:44 PM ^
Why do you think that talking shit is sign of being a good coach? There are great coaches across all sports that know how to keep shut and win. I don't remember anybody ever being disappointed with how little shit-talking John Beilein did, or Scotty Bowman, or fucking Nick Saban. All Saban does is talk down his team.
March 20th, 2020 at 11:15 PM ^
Is "I have a plan and I feel very confident we won't screw it up" really talking shit?
March 20th, 2020 at 11:58 PM ^
That's not what he said. Stop trying to misrepresent the situation.
There has been a series of terrible things that have been happening to UM against OSU for the better part of two decades now. UM could have easily won 5-6 of those games. From personal fouls in 2006, to going for 2 in 2013 and throwing into double coverage, to dropped INTs, to UM's QB getting injured almost every year, to the spot, etc. I don't know what it's going to take to beat those guys again, but I know it won't be as easy as just changing some little thing we see on film. They had an answer to every wrinkle and an adjustment to anything that was effective and eventually always find a way to win. I'll believe we will beat them when I see it. I know we can get close, but we've been close so many times and still fallen short.
March 21st, 2020 at 12:03 AM ^
I don't think we are watching the same games. Some bad plays can take an 8-8 record to 5-11, NOT to 1-15!!!
I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Didn't I say 5-6 games could have been won? Here are 7 close winnable games that could in theory take a 2-16 record to 9-9. Even 3 of those games would move the needle to 5-13. Wins in 2006, 2013, and 2016 would make it feel different, don't you think? Another unfortunately bad luck thing is the majority of the close games seem to occur in Columbus. I'm confident UM wins in 2006 & 2016 at home.
2001 lost by 6 pts
2002 @ OSU lost by 5 pts
2005: Lost by 4 pts
2006 @ OSU Lost by 3 pts
2012 @ OSU Lost by 5 pts
2013 lost by 1 pt
2016 @ OSU lost by 3 pts in 2OT
All rivalry games generally produce close games. It becomes a trend when one team can't put it away consistently after nearly 20 years.

Jeebus OP.
Gattis should just never say anything to inspire his guys?
This reminds me of all this talk when the Sparty/Roids era was going on.
Gattis just doing his job.
March 20th, 2020 at 10:15 PM ^
OSU coaches seem to do just fine at inspiring their players without making weak ass empty predictions.
March 20th, 2020 at 10:12 PM ^
I just hope there's football come September.
March 20th, 2020 at 10:43 PM ^
Call me crazy, but I think we beat them this year.
March 20th, 2020 at 10:49 PM ^
You're crazy.
March 20th, 2020 at 11:54 PM ^
You can scheme up whatever you want. If you don't have the talent, you ain't going to win.
OSU has the talent edge...not 10-20 consecutive wins worth.
Gattis knows that Shea will no longer be QB and the team will FINALLY have a starting QB that Harbaugh recruited. He is perfectly justified for making that truthful tweet.
Funny, I don't see Oregon State on the schedule any time soon.
He's right—they won't beat themselves in 2020, because we won't be playing football until 2021.
Yup. I'm amazed that so many people STILL don't grasp the severity of this thing and how long this "new normal" is going to last.
There 100% will be no football this fall.
There’s gonna be football. This sucks yes, but this was ripping China limb from limb a month ago and then left as fast as it came. If we’re still reeling from this by fall then football will be the least of our worries.
Take everything you hear out of China and it’s state run media with a grain of salt. Even if they have it under control, my money is on the numbers being worse than what they tell you.
And even if it’s all true, the ability their government has to wholly and unilaterally shut down everything in the country and lock people up (or worse) for disobeying is something you’d never see here.
Well shit. Now that we know their intent is to score 70 points the rest is easy. Well golly fucking gee. I can’t believe someone didn’t catch onto this earlier.
March 21st, 2020 at 10:03 AM ^
Hmm. The blueprint wasn't out when MSU took them down in 2013? Or when they got shut out by Clemson?
Edit- fixed typo
March 21st, 2020 at 10:31 AM ^
The only good news: the odds of this game being played this year are decreasing. Gives UM an extra year to prepare.
(ugh)

Too bad we can't read blueprints
March 21st, 2020 at 11:57 AM ^
I love it. Yeah we haven’t won a game in forever but whatever. Need these comments coming out, keep building confidence in the guys.
hail

TIL: that Patterson’s nickname was “the blueprint”.
March 24th, 2020 at 11:09 AM ^
Ohio State does have a better 80 man roster than we do. Their starting team is better than ours too. Their starting QB's have been better than our starting QB's. All these facts are true but the biggest factor in our recent defeats is the fact that they have completely figured out our defense. Watching the game the last two years I see their receivers wide open. Later the running backs can't be stopped. This is not a talent issue! Even if we had All-Pros at every positions it wouldn't help overcome our bad scheme against them. All our coaching staff need to competed with Ohio State in this chess game that they're clearly beating us in. I'm no expert but even I see we can't defend the crossing pattern where they pick off our defender. Let's start with that. They also know our tendencies, we need to mix it up. What do you guys think?
