Gator Bowl Key Match ups:Dilithium vs. KJ Wright

Submitted by swamyblue on

Hola and Happy Holidays to all the MgoBloggers out there!

I'm looking to stir the pot a bit…just kidding.  There's enough of that right!

Surely  Shirley ( Lesley Nelson R.I.P. 2010) Brian and the crew will have a thorough break down of the X's & O's with all the stats, trimmings, and fixings included but I thought we could use a light discussion on the key match ups and/or things to watch for during the Gator Bowl.

Coming into this season's opener we prepped ourselves against UConn's experienced defense and their stud linebacker - Greg Lloyd. We've run across a few more of these situations notably when Sparty (w/Greg Jones) came to town.  The Bulldogs possess a stud of their own in K.J Wright.  He's currently projected in the 3rd to 5th round of the draft (slightly ahead of Lloyd).

MSU has had plenty of time to comb through tapes on our offense so I suspect their coaches will have a well thoughtout scheme to stop Dilithium & Co.  I'm presuming this entails KJ spying on Denard throughout the game.  As noted in an earlier diary the Bulldogs displayed one of their best defensive efforts against Cam "I am the Rule" Newton.  So they have some experience shutting down an active run-type QB.

During the game I'll keep a watchful eye for Dilithium's read on Mr. Wright.  If we break his containment a few times early we could be in for a delightful afternoon.  Watching a bit of film on the Bulldogs the strategy of a few teams was to avoid or run away from his side (KJ is usually the strong side backer). All things considered I don't see how that type of strategy figures into our game plan and as such the collisions early should be entertaining. "Who wants it baby, who wants it!"…"Get some…"

The Bulldogs have another stud on the D-line in DE Pernell McPhee.  I guess I could have shown a bit of interest there but we've handled the line of scrimmage fairly well this season.  No disrespect to McPhee (listed as a 2nd/3rd round draft pick) but I think we're in good shape handling the line of scrimmage.  Besides, this McPhee was more interesting on the inter-webs!  =]

So what say ya MgoBlog Community?  What are your thoughts on the key match ups and personnel to winning this thing? It should be quite the "Dog fight".
