I am homegating.
October 16th, 2020 at 11:41 AM ^
There's a Dr. Pepper ad campaign in there somewhere

Well said, throw out the traditions of the previous years in 2020.
October 16th, 2020 at 11:18 AM ^
just moved to nashville so I guess my new gameday tradition will be watching our games in nashville.
October 16th, 2020 at 2:01 PM ^
I just moved to Nashville in June. It’s nice to see some other Michigan fans around here.
October 16th, 2020 at 3:22 PM ^
There are more Michigan fans than Vandy fans.
October 16th, 2020 at 4:48 PM ^
Which side of town are you two on? I'm in Hermitage now.

One of the ringleaders of the Nashville U of M Alumni Club just moved back to Michigan... not sure what the plan is this year as I haven't heard much from the rest of the crew. Our spot was at Slider House (Midtown). There was also another group at HQ Beercade off 2nd (Downtown) and yet another group somewhere in East Nashville.
Welcome to Nashville :)

Thanks, I'm living downtown, for now. go blue.
October 16th, 2020 at 11:24 AM ^
At home with Founders Dirty Bastard or Alltech Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale.

For the last several years of tailgating, I've started by popping open and consuming my bottled oatmeal as soon as I arrive, whether it's in Ann Arbor or one of my road game tailgates.

I see no reason to change this tradition, and I've also made it part of my game-day tradition for the away games I don't attend
At my age, who am I to defy Wilford Brimley's advice to get my daily fiber?
MOAR OATMEAL, PLEASE!
October 16th, 2020 at 1:38 PM ^
Being fellow OGs, we need to pace these high ABV selections or risk a long afternoon nap.
October 16th, 2020 at 1:45 PM ^
True, but a Founders Oatmeal Stout hits all but one of the Saturday required food groups: oatmeal and chocolate (fiber), chocolate and coffee (caffeine), and chocolate (carbohydrates/sugar).
The grill takes care of the rest.
October 16th, 2020 at 6:25 PM ^
This would be the opposite of my gameday discovery (albeit 25years ago...) of Canadian Club Sherry Cask. I remained drunk well after the game was over. It also failed to become a ‘tradition’
October 16th, 2020 at 11:35 AM ^
I have a renovated man cave (sorry if you're offended by that term) I will likely watch several Michigan games down there this year and take victory shots of schnapps when appropriate. I also have a notebook where I record the date, the opponent, and a few memories or observations of said games that I witness in the cave.
October 16th, 2020 at 11:37 AM ^
I bought a projector and outdoor screen, so all night games will be in the back yard on the big screen with my fellow Mgoblog reader neighbor.
October 16th, 2020 at 11:40 AM ^
Fingers crossed for no rainouts...do you have a canopy handy?
October 16th, 2020 at 2:15 PM ^
We have a TV in the screened in patio that'll do in a pinch.
Given the trend here in Austin, wouldn't mind some rain TBH
October 16th, 2020 at 11:42 AM ^
I'm basically out of office on everything until after November 3rd.
October 16th, 2020 at 11:45 AM ^
My wife and I usually make a meal with a different theme each week. Breakfast, Texas BBQ, Mediterranean, pizza, etc. I also buy a 4 pack of New Hollands Dragons milk and drink 1 per Qtr....by the 4th QTR I usually am feeling pretty good.
October 16th, 2020 at 11:48 AM ^
I drink a lot and scream at the TV.
October 16th, 2020 at 11:53 AM ^
I will be splitting wood until kick-off (new log splitter works like a charm, Honda engine is the key)
October 16th, 2020 at 2:15 PM ^
Who would've thought that I would obtain useful info on log-splitting in a 2020 UM gameday traditions thread?!
I actually love splitting wood manually, but I'm growing older and the prospects of splitting one full cord of wood are now less appealing. So I'm in the market for my first log splitter. I didn't realize Honda engines powered a handful of options out there. Based on my Honda lawn mower experience, I'll probably follow your advice and my instincts on my upcoming log splitter purchase.
October 16th, 2020 at 5:31 PM ^
not sure why i upvoted the log-splitter sub-thread but that's the sort of reckless abandon that happens when season kickoff is finally (almost) here.

I haven't given it much thought before now, but it sure will be different. My son and I watched every game together for as long as I can remember. However, he's 9 1/2 hours away at college. My wife, despite being UM '91 and a marching band member, and my youngest daughter show little interest in watching sports.
I'll probably just watch by myself.
October 16th, 2020 at 12:19 PM ^
So your wife was in the marching band and had up close seats to watch Desmond Howard make the 4th down catch against Notre Dame AND return the punt to the house against OSU and that wasn't enough to keep her interested in watching?
That just makes me sad...and confused.
October 16th, 2020 at 3:04 PM ^
You must not know many high-level band people. As far as they're concerned, the game is only being played so they can showcase their musical talents. Without them, there wouldn't even need to be a game.
Thankfully my wife doesn't fully embrace that attitude. She was in the band because of a love for music.
October 16th, 2020 at 12:00 PM ^
I make pizza , I eat while I watch the game .
Does yelling at the tv count as game day tradition , if so, that too .
October 16th, 2020 at 12:14 PM ^
I usually get together with our local alumni club to watch. No 'official' alumni club events like that are allowed this year but I guess a bunch of folks are still planning on getting together.
I'll probably pass and watch at home, at least for the first one. A 7:30 watch in a bar that's already had people in and out since 11, in a state with no capacity limits, in a county with a rising positivity rate is a little too far out on the risk scale for me right now.

Michigan Alumni Association is doing a "Virtual Tailgate with Football Alumni of Michigan" including Brandon Graham, Ben Gedeon and Mike Martin next Saturday starting at 6pm. https://umalumni.force.com/s/lt-event?id=a1Q2L00000BVqLZUA1&site=a0Y1a000000ySelEAE

I’m hoping we start a new tradition of winning games after Thanksgiving. I don’t particularly care about bowl games, but I’m so tired of OSU
October 16th, 2020 at 2:02 PM ^
I have a mini 2 ft version of this and will jump up and touch it before I sit on the couch
October 16th, 2020 at 4:05 PM ^
Where would one find one of these? I'd like to buy one to hang right above the steps leading down to my basement.
October 16th, 2020 at 2:11 PM ^
I'm somewhat weird. I actually prefer watching UM games at home with my immediate family or alone. I find it distracting to watch a game with a lot of other people. I also lean slightly to the introverted side - I definitely cherish my own space. So my 2020 gameday protocol will probably be very similar to the last 30+ years.
I like to make a batch of homemade salsa before early games, usually with the UM pre-game radio broadcast streaming in the background. Grilling and/or Naked Bootlegger nachos are required for evening games. MMB greatest hits are also played before kickoff. Some beer may or may not be imbibed.
October 16th, 2020 at 2:56 PM ^
I am usually so anxious during Michigan games that I end up sitting in another room while my husband yells in to me what's going on in the game. But the world is SO crazy right now that I'm anticipating the game to be a relaxing, spa-like experience no matter what happens.
October 16th, 2020 at 3:39 PM ^
Just re-did my patio and installed a gas fire pit. Planning to enjoy the hell out of that this year since I won’t be at every home game. Planning on having some socially distanced small gatherings to take advantage when possible.
October 16th, 2020 at 3:39 PM ^
Edit: Double Posted, Damn it
October 16th, 2020 at 4:49 PM ^
New this year will be homegating. I hope it doesn't become a tradition. :)
Other than the location, everything else should remain the same - setup, cornhole, drinking before noon, grilling... the basic fall Saturday activities. What the drinks and food are remains to be seen but they'll both be good.
October 16th, 2020 at 9:02 PM ^
It will be a great day, hitting the pumpkin patch with an old friend and my wife and daughter in the afternoon before getting home and starting some light drinking and heavy eating before evening kickoff
