Game of Thrones... best episode ever...

Submitted by jdon on

Are we not doing this regularily?

Best episode so far.

I'm not lieing when I say I got goosebumps when Sansa walked in the door.  It has been so long, waiting for a Stark reunion...

For this reason alone I am not a show over books fan.

edit:  I changed the title.  Sorry dudes.  I was just overwhelmed.

I think there's potential gold in coming up with spoilers to cinema classics, although I am sure it will torment a few people on the board all the same, but it is MGoBlog and we do this to ourselves.

The Conversation: It turns out that word does not in fact mean what you think it means.

From what I remember from my multiple film classes in college where this topic was discussed, it was the name William Randolph Hearst (not Welles) gave to his special lady friend's special lady parts. As the whole movie was pretty much a overt mocking of Hearst, "rosebud" was but one of many jabs at him. I could read the article you linked to see if my memory serves me correctly, but I'm horribly prideful and lazy.

but, I said sorry and changed it?

I get it.  It shouldn't have happened.  And i am sorry... but it is kind of bordering on live tv at this point...  and you will live.

So how bout we talk about the fucking show and how awesome it was?

Best episode ever?

To me, it means that the entire nation is watching this show at about the same rate as they would watch a 'live' television show...  so I would like to liken the show to a sporting event, as it were, in that we wouldn't call it a spoiler to discuss a live event...

how about another metaphor:  its like discussing a live performance from the VMAs as it happens.

OR maybe it is like discussing a news event as it happens...

OR maybe I should dig a little deeper into my pit of shame and say that if at 9:48 you didn't know that Sansa and John had hugged it out you are behind the times...

IDK.

The truth is after the first guy pointed it out, the five guys who parroted should've just downvote me, upvote them, and contribute to the fucking conversation.

Hey, asshole.  Not everybody is on your schedule.  Common courtesy is, you know, common.

"how about another metaphor:  its like discussing a live performance from the VMAs as it happens."

This is called an analogy, not a metaphor, and it's a terrible one.  How in the fuck could you possibly spoil a live performance from the VMAs?  Of the thousand different things you could have chosen for this analogy, you chose 'live performance from the VMAs?'    'You described those dance moves so well, there's no point in me even watching it now.  Thanks for the spoiler.'

And best ever?  Solid episode, but this wasn't the best of anything.

People actually wait until 9PM Pacific to watch these with HBO Now and HBO Go?

The wife an I normally have it on and going within 10 minutes of the East Coast premiere time.  (of course we don't have kids to get off to bed before the nudity and violence starts...)

I an not sure I would rank this as any sort of best episode - seemed slow to me until the latter stages with a lot of exposition for upcoming big confrontations.  Not sure what it was titled but "Badass Women of GoT" would have worked for me.  Between Sansa, Danny, and even Brieanne and Asha showing some bravado a lot of "girl power" in this episode.

Honestly, I didn't even know I could watch it on HBO Go immediately as it aired on the east coast. In the past, other shows I've watched don't get put up on demand til the next day.

Now that I know that, I'll definitely be watching earlier. Sad as it may sound, being up until 10 on Sunday night is kind of a drag when you have to get up at 430/5 Monday morning.

I mean, I did breach protocol.  I did change the title though.  And I did apologize... is there no place in your heart for forgiveness?  I forgive you for calling me an asshole.  See, it's simple.

The rest is just academic... I would encourage you to think about the sentence 'how the fuck could you spoil a live performance' and how I am comparing (analogy, metaphor, whatever) the show to a live show in that it has become an 'event'; I'm really on to something there and I don't think you are giving my thoughts a fair spin on the perspective wheel...

Actually, about 7M are watching each episode of GoT right now, so about 2% of Americans.

That's actually a lot for most TV-shows; specifically non-network shows.  Plus, there's probably several million that are catching up on the show.

Obviously, posting spoilers or even hints of spoilers is a major faux pas.  But I think there is some validity to the "Liveness" of the show.  Other than The Walking Dead, it's the biggest water cooler show out there.  People talk about it as soon as it airs, much like sports.  People are careful not to spoil things, but you gotta know you can't go on the internet and easily avoid spoilers - it really is an event.  Perhaps more than your average sports game.  Twitter is a nice example: #GameOfThrones and, hilariously, #demThrones, are huge trending topics for every episode. THe weekly MGoBlog thread is a good example.  People talk about this show in real time.

It's an interesting cultural phenomenon.

That said, there's no reason to post anything alluding to any plot points in the title. jdon apologized. We move on.

I'm weird I guess. I don't have time for live tv becasue of work, so I wait until its all over then sit down and rage-watch the entire thing (whatever it is). If it sucks after 2 episodes, I stop.

That said, I didn't mind this post as I will have forgotten all about it by the time I watch the series someday.

Shows are on 3 hrs later here on the left coast. Keep the GoT threads, even if you start them at 6pm Pacific, but NO mention of what's happening in the thread title!!!!!!!!!

Yes, you aplogized. But apparently you POd enough people that no one wanted to respond to your attempt at a thread.

Anyway, it's next morning now, but I'm not sure if you were aware that HBO shows GoT (and all their shows) at the same time on the clock in the West as they do the East, not simultaneously.

I didn't see the original title, but I wasn't particularly thrilled to see the current one either, before I saw the show. Maybe this sounds like I'm being a stickler, but next time please just title the thread "Game of Thrones" and leave the commentary for inside the thread. You set my expectations up for seeing this episode that it was going to be the "best episode ever". That isn't something I wanted to know before watching it, and made the episode a bit of a let down whereas if I had gone in blind it wouldn't have been.

Thanks.
