Gallon named B1G Offensive Player of the Week

Submitted by Paps on

Gallon was named Big 10 offensive player of the week with his 184 yard, 3 touchdown performance vs Notre Dame.

Also, MSU DE Shilique Calhoun was the defensive player of the week after scoring 2 defensive touchdowns (thats the MSU offense, sadly), and Marcus Jones (Minny) and Akeem Hunt (Purdue) shared the special teams player of the week honors after returning kickoffs for touchdowns this week.

On a much funnier note. RCMB is so much fun to read right now. I thank god everyday I wasn't raised an MSU fan.

Some of the better ones are those finally starting to question the competency of Dantonio and the acknowledgement that without Narduzzi, MSU is a dead man walking.  The Spartan faithful had convinced themselves that last season's offensive struggles were solely on the shoulders of Dan Rouschar.  Now that he's out of the picture and the current offensive coaching staff has had 9 months with the team to "improve" the offense with nothing to show for it, they're losing their minds over there.  It's awesome.

It's so great to see those idiots turn on their hero so quickly.

This made me chuckle:

"Right now we're the laughingstock of the B1G and maybe even college football. This is the worst team I've seen in years. We absolutely suck. The only W I see on the remaining schedule after Youngstown State is maybe Purdue. Let those elitist fucking cocksucking Domers laugh all they want, we suck and judging by what we've seen so far it'll probably going to be a massacre in South Bend."

Damn, that is good stuff. I was banned by RCMB (well, my current user name of course and I don't feel like making another one just to talk to stupid people). I was actually trying to have civil conversations with those morons, but they simply cannot handle M fans whatsoever.

Frightening that msu has scored only 2 offensive touchdowns thus far, and has scored 19 points on the season (missed PAT), compared to 4 TDs/28 points on defense (2 INT returns, 2 fumble returns).  Both offensive TDs came in the run game, and they're averaging 105 passing yards per game.  OUCH.

Nichols State's offense scored 3 TDs and 2 FGs against WMU, and McNeese State (!) racked up 424 yards of offense and scored 5 TDs / 3 FGs against USF.

This msu offense is just plain BAD.  And although Youngstown St is FCS, they've won their first 2 games 28-10 and 67-13.  This will probably be the best offense msu faces so far, and appears to have a decent (by FCS standards) defense.

The question now is whether msu's offense can finally outscore their defense!  Are there vegas odds on this?

Congrats to Gallon it is well deserved.  I hope he is doing okay now, it looked like he was having some issues towards the end of the game.

What is Gallon's NFL draft stock like at this point? Obviously height will be an issue in the pros but he's such a natural at the position that he should be able to contribute at the next level. He could also be used as a return man. I'm thinking mid-to-late 3rd round or 4th round.

I dunno his returns have been pretty sub par, though that may just be our coverage sucking.  Wouldn't he be more of a slot receiver in the NFL?  I think he doesn't fit the "prototypical" receiver build, but then again that's what they said about Tom Brady not being the prototypical NFL QB.

If he keeps his production up I think drafted mid-late.

I know he was just given #21, and rightfully so, but can we have a serious discussion as to whether he should or should not be in consideration for the #1 jersey? and why? i don't see what more a guy has to do to be considered for it, in two games, one of which against a very respectable defense, he has put up startling numbers and looks like something out of a video game.

unless they're effectively retiring it until they trot it out for george campbell in two years, i think it's become a grail quest at this point.

I think he would have to at least be in the conversation for the #1 jersey at this point. He might not quite be there but if there hasn't been a discussion about it then there probably won't be any other serious candidate for it for at least three years.

You did bring up an interesting point with your 'grail quest' comment though. It seems that we are simultaneously going in two different directions with the whole numbers game. On the one hand, as you correctly point out, the #1 jersey has essentially been retired as it has not seen the field in 10 (I think?) years. Yet on the other hand you've got the 'retired' Legends numbers that apparently are not allowed to sit unused. I love the idea of unretiring them and most have fit beautifully (I LOVED seeing Gardner out there in that 98 jersey) but some have seemed forced as though it is not an option to let them sit unworn for a season. The #11 jersey comes to mind as switching Kovacs' number right at the end of his career felt wrong to me and putting it on a backup corner/safety this year just seems forced.

I guess basically what I'm saying is, I would prefer to see some consistency with the more important numbers. If we're going to use the precedent of the #1 jersey, then all of the legends jerseys should be similarly earned instead of redistributed every time one becomes vacant. Or go with more of the 'let's show off all of our important numbers by getting them on the field' aproach and make the #1 jersey easier to obtain so there are no more decades where you only get to see the #1 jersey on kid in the row in front of you.

Really, I just miss seeing the  #1 jersey, so, like, give it to Gallon, okay Hoke?

Gallon fully merited the #1 jersey by the end of last season.  Most of the guys who wore it just got it as freshmen anyway.  But they gave him #21, which is good enough.  Any Legends jersey is a huge honor.  Debating between #1 and #21 at this point is splitting hairs.  He's not going to switch now.

Gallon also was named the National Offensive Player of the Week by College Sports Madness and the National Wide Receiver of the Week by College Football Performance Awards

Reading Gallon's Scout.Com profile from 2009 and it says...

"Don't expect him to break too many tackles..."

Who wrote that Notre Dame?

I did not know Gallon was a HS QB though. That explains a TON.
