Right around halftime of the Right around halftime of the Notre Dame game. I wasn't 100% sold either way on whether or not to bring him back this year, but by halftime of that game I was sure we had made a big mistake.
Carsten Charles. The big

Carsten Charles. The big lefty must have been Tweeting about his hometown (area at least) team and OP was relaying his description of the end of the Niners game...

If Hoke and this staff aren't

If Hoke and this staff aren't going to be fired during the season, can we at least hire someone to make sure we have the right number of people on the damn field? I would suggest:

I mean, Rich Rodriguez, no?

I mean, Rich Rodriguez, no? West Virginia isn't on the Florida, Texas, USC level but Rodriguez had them rolling along pretty darn good when he left.

Sounds like a great game!

Sounds like a great game! Reminds me of a loss back in high school by a score of 6-5 in a horrid rain/sleet/snow storm with all three FGs coming on fumbled snaps followed by three runs for no gain and short kicks.

Nice to see you again Stevie!

Nice to see you again Stevie! It's been too long!

Dang! You are quite right, I

Dang! You are quite right, I did indeed forget to put everything in per capita numbers!

Though now I am curious how you got those numbers/what state population numbers you used because my numbers came out a bit different (and I did put my faith in Wikipedia having accurate population data, so there is that.)

Using roughly 11.54 million for Ohio and 9.88 for Michigan I got 1 in 257k and 253k respectively. Or 0.3898 per 100k  vs 0.3946 per 100k (both surprisingly below the national average of 0.46 by the way). I'm no statistician but that difference seems pretty much insignificant, particularly with such a small sample size.

While your main point is

While your main point is correct, I think the difference is just about entirely due to hockey as Ohio and Michigan produce very, very similar levels of basketball players.

At the end of last season, there were 39 kids from Michigan high schools on the rosters of the schools in the top 10 basketball conferences, while there were 45 from Ohio. Similarly, of the players on current preseason NBA rosters, 10 were born in Michigan and 12 were born in Ohio. Pretty much even to me.

On the other hand, 33 active NHL players were born in Michigan, while only 3 were born in Ohio. And while I don't have the actual numbers, I would guess division one and junior hockey rosters also have a much higher number of Michigan born players than Ohio born players.

I would suspect you are spot on in saying Ohio produces more NFL talent because of a stronger focus on youth football, but it would seem to me that only hockey, not hockey and basketball, suffer as a result.

Yeah, that's all on me. I

Yeah, that's all on me. I understand the point you were making, and it was a good one, it's just that the baseball stat nerd in me cringed at the incorrect numbers. Sorry about that bud.

Anyone can fly during flag football, only the best can do it during tackle football.

That was the greatest thing

That was the greatest thing I've seen all day, and I just watched the US beat Mexico and clinch a World Cup berth. Man how El Tri has fallen...one might even say they have fallen to earth quicker than Mr Nix! What? One would not say that? Okay, I guess I'll stop drinking and go to bed now.

Um, not to be all

Um, not to be all baseball-nerdy or whatnot, but neither of those is accurate. The correct numbers would be HR: 714, SO 1330. What you have are his home run total in the American League and his strikeout total while with the Yankees.

It's gonna be Penn State, but

It's gonna be Penn State, but personally I would love to see this. No good teams/games to choose from, so just go for broke with the redemption angle.

I think he would have to at

I think he would have to at least be in the conversation for the #1 jersey at this point. He might not quite be there but if there hasn't been a discussion about it then there probably won't be any other serious candidate for it for at least three years.

You did bring up an interesting point with your 'grail quest' comment though. It seems that we are simultaneously going in two different directions with the whole numbers game. On the one hand, as you correctly point out, the #1 jersey has essentially been retired as it has not seen the field in 10 (I think?) years. Yet on the other hand you've got the 'retired' Legends numbers that apparently are not allowed to sit unused. I love the idea of unretiring them and most have fit beautifully (I LOVED seeing Gardner out there in that 98 jersey) but some have seemed forced as though it is not an option to let them sit unworn for a season. The #11 jersey comes to mind as switching Kovacs' number right at the end of his career felt wrong to me and putting it on a backup corner/safety this year just seems forced.

I guess basically what I'm saying is, I would prefer to see some consistency with the more important numbers. If we're going to use the precedent of the #1 jersey, then all of the legends jerseys should be similarly earned instead of redistributed every time one becomes vacant. Or go with more of the 'let's show off all of our important numbers by getting them on the field' aproach and make the #1 jersey easier to obtain so there are no more decades where you only get to see the #1 jersey on kid in the row in front of you.

Really, I just miss seeing the  #1 jersey, so, like, give it to Gallon, okay Hoke?

Ideally I would love to see a

Ideally I would love to see a home and home with Stanford on the schedule sometime soon. Regardless of who the actual schools end up being I would like to see schedules featuring one 'marquee' opponent  (hopefully in home and homes rather than neutral site games), one game against a mid to upper level BCS Conference school, and one game against a MAC school each year.

I actually think this may be the way they've started to fill in their post-ND schedules what with home and homes coming up with Utah (14/15), Arkansas (18/19), and Virginia Tech (20/21) as well as one offs (all at home) with Oregon State (15), Colorado (16), BYU (15), and Cincinnati (17), with schools like Ball State (16), UNLV (15), and Hawaii (16) filling out the non-conference schedules. If they keep scheduling like this going forward, I'll be plenty happy with the variety and competition levels of their post-ND schedules.

No way. I'd be equally

No way. I'd be equally surprised at Fitzgerald taking one of those jobs as I would be with Hoke taking one of them. At this point he pretty much is Northwestern football.

I wouldn't say worse than the

I wouldn't say worse than the Beast, but those are the two worst things I have ever put in my body. Hite, to my memory is what a really bad beer that was stored in a desert for a year past the expiration date would taste like, while Milwaukee's Best ALWAYS tastes like warm urine even if the can is half frozen with ice chunks floating in it (or at least they did the two occasions I managed to choke down a couple of them before I permanently swore them off did).

However, my two roommates at the time would most definitely say that it (Hite) is worse as it did not sit remotely well with either of them that night.

That video, as well as your

That video, as well as your commet, makes me laugh about 1000x more than it has any right to

I sadly do know how shitty

I sadly do know how shitty Hite is without having had the pleasure of traveling halfway around the world. A couple years ago I was at an Asian market here in Chicago and it was on sale, 24 cans for $8.99...I overpaid. If that is the best (even of the cheapest level of) beer you can get your hands on in Korea, my heart truly goes out to you!

We kicked off our fantasy

We kicked off our fantasy football draft with a round of Macallan 18. Since then I have moved on to Ommegang Rare Vos, St. Bernardus Abt 12, and am now starting to get into the New Belgiums, including one, Giddy Up, which I have never had before. And in a few hours, after the grill is lit, I fear we will be powering our way through the seemingly endless supply of Old Style also in the coolers.

I'm not sure if I'm reading

I'm not sure if I'm reading it wrong or a number(s) is wrong, but I don't think the gap between Scout (27) and Rivals (72) rankings for AZ OL Casey Tucker quite meets your 50+ criteria.

Thinking of the season as a

Thinking of the season as a whole, with age, experience, talent, schedule, randomness, and whatnot, I feel 8-10 wins is a good range. But looking at the games individually I'd pick Michigan as the favorite in 11, if not all 12 games (facing Notre Dame's front in game two makes me nervous but even that I expect to be basically a tossup due to their offense). Obviously they're not all guaranteed wins, but if forced to pick a winner on a game by game basis, I think I'd be at 11-1 right now. Which scares the crap out of the pessimist in me.
