I truly feel sorry for those that don't "get" soccer/futbol/non-American football. It's truly a great game. People complain about flopping and while it does happen, have you seen the NBA? The NFL, where WRs are taught to get up after every incompletion calling for a flag? The NFL where kickers/punters are taught to somersault to the ground in agony if a defender comes within an inch of their foot? Flopping in the NFL is just as bad as soccer and, IMO, trends to lead to more game changing penalties. Soccer refs are taught to know when it's legit & ignore or to, at most, yellow card the guy. Flagrant flops rarely lead to a red, etc. In the NFL, if that punter almost gets blocked and he sells that tap contact hard enough it's 15 yards and the ball back. That's HUGE! It's changed games I can think of off the top of my head by a dozen right now. Phantom PI calls! Tell Miami (YTM) that a WR that wasn't touched, dropped the ball (!) & came up crying for a flag is better than nothing or a free kick from midfield in soccer. Flopping in soccer needs toned down, I agree. I agree to the point that I'd penalize it when obvious. Yet, it happens in the very sports soccer haters love where it has FAR WORSE consequences if believed. I think top end soccer (European in club, add South American in national) is great. You have to be physically fit to an insane degree, YOU CAN'T USE YOUR HANDS (!) & goal chances are as exciting as an NFL TD, let alone goals. I've excitedly watched a 0-0 match many times. I've also seen 5+ goal games that were worse than a 2-1 match. It's a beautiful game, IMO. I hope the MLS grows, expands, gets young talent over retirement aged historical European stars & is taken seriously one day.
