Friday POSBANG- Easy as turtle soup edition
My beloved late father, a 1947 Michigan alum, and the man responsible for my love of all things UM related, would always use the phrase "easy as turtle soup."
I never understood the joke as a kid, but then realized as an adult... That was the joke. Nothing to it.
I've been looking forward to the start of conference play for a long time and I'm hoping that there's "nothing to it" and that we turn the Terrapins into turtle soup.

careful about what you say about turtles. some people around here, well, let's just say they have very soft shells and are pretty squeamish if they think you're making soup from a turtle.

Kind of like chicken soup, but with turtles. We used to go to the Turtle Soup Inn in Detroit. They had 2 Dobermans on the roof behind a chain link fence, that barked their asses off every time someone would pull into the parking lot. Good times.

Did you ever go to Topinka's at Telegraph (or Grand River?) and 7 Mile on the west side? I never did but they supposedly had a great turtle soup. It's gone now. Might have been a mob place.

the hardest part about turtle soup is cleaning the turtle after you dispatch it
and whatever you do, do NOT leave a turtle carcass inside a cooler for the weekend during the heat of summer
The moral of the story is, it's easy to catch and kill a turtle, as long as you make sure they don't bite you. So I guess what i'm saying is Michigan by 3 scores

Back in the mid-70's, I spend a winter in the Virgin Islands. Turtle soup was a staple and, god forgive me, I used to kill bowls of the shit. It was utterly delicious.

For a portion of each year I reside in central West Virginia, in a fairly rural part of the state. The old-timers recall a time when any source of meat protein was fair game: deer, bear, raccoon, opossum, groundhogs, squirrels ... and turtles.
Returning the realm of football ... the WVU Mountaineers beat Virginia Tech last night, 33-10. That will make the folks here in WV happy. They love their Mountaineers.

The one time I had squirrel it was very tough. At the same dinner, however, I had raccoon and it was tender and tasted like pot roast. Truly delicious. Cooking methods might have had everything to do with this disparity.

I was at the VT-ODU game a few weeks ago and it was just plain old bad football on both sides. Losing to ODU wasn't the worst part, how they lost was really hard to watch. That game led me to believe that VT might go 0-12 and ODU 1-11.

This weekend was made for me.. and many, many others. It’s both Parents weekend and Homecoming. I’m the “dad” of two current Michigan students and an alum.
The car is packed - just a couple more items to pick up - and, I’ll be on my way.
Dinner with the kids on Main Street tonight - and tailgating before and after the game tomorrow. The weather’s going to be cooler (game time looks perfect)… let’s hope Michigan’s play is hot.

That's funny you posted that. One of my closest friends who works at a Starbucks in Pittsburgh took his and his wife's order and made their drinks for them (pumpkin spice latte). This was on Monday. He was halfway into a conversation with them about Pittsburgh and where to go to watch a movie when Alice mentioned he was happy to be touring again and my friend realized who he was without the makeup.
Said he and his wife were genuinely nice people.
(I know I know, cool story bro.)
