Friday Night Hoops, Football, BBQ and Beverage Thread
Mates,
It's been a while since we had one of these. We play hoops in 2 hours, hockey one thread down, there's football on, a BBQ to light, and possibly a beverage to be had.
Questions for this evening include:
1. Predict tomorrow's score
2. Will you be attending the game?
3. What is on your plate and/or in your cup?
Fall has come to the up north region but the corn is off and cattle harvested. Snow tomorrow (not much) and rifle season starts on Tuesday.
I hope you are all well and Go Blue!

Sazerac. After reading MGoCocktail decided it had been awhile. Mine is more traditional with Filibuster Rye.
Go Blue, beat ND!

Not attending the game :(
Drinking Diet Mtn Dew, do not drink alcohol very often.
Watched the 1st half of the MSU/Zags game. Can’t tell if MSU is good or if the Zags are trash. Zags have been very, very sloppy with the ball, but MSU has been taking it to them.
Thankfully hockey is about to start. Beat the fig things!

No one on Gonzaga is seizing the moment. Obviously lots of talent but Timme is not dominating like I thought he would and Gonzaga's guard play is not making up the difference.

Had to say goodbye to the best friend I've had in 15 years a couple of weeks ago, Sir Winston Churchill. 💔
I'm looking to adopt a new dog though, and no matter what, he (or she) will be named Dwight D Eisenhower (or Ike for short). I just don't know how long to wait. Or what to look for in a mut. Here's hoping my next best friend can live up to Winston's ridiculously high standards of a goofball dog who parked his anxious butt at the front door every time I left the house and never left until I got home.
November 11th, 2022 at 7:47 PM ^
You can never go wrong with a mut. Dogs are the best and Ike will be great!
November 11th, 2022 at 7:49 PM ^
Losing our furry friends is so heartbreaking. I’m so sorry for you. They bring amazing joy during their short lives and that is what we should remember even in times of such sorrow. Hang in there.
November 11th, 2022 at 7:52 PM ^
Lord Churchill would tell you ‘never give up, never, never, never give up in anything great or small no matter how overwhelming the odds’. And, he would order you to march on, find a new K-9 to fulfill the important duties he had so fantastically covered these last 15 years.
losing any dog, and especially ‘that’ dog is tough. Sorry EYB.

dreaded double post. i'll blame it on having the worst internet service possible, barely beyond a dial-up modem, because we live in the boonies.
November 11th, 2022 at 7:59 PM ^
I think it's fair to blame it on Woodrow Wilson. Much of our failed infrastructure could be traced back to his economic policies. Among... other things
November 11th, 2022 at 8:11 PM ^
So sorry to hear about your loss, eyb. Losing a pet is very difficult because they are part of the family. I still think about my buddy that I had to put down 5 years ago.
You'll know when it's time. And don't worry, the mutt will pick you!
DDE (Ike) is a great name, but you might have to teach him to chase golf balls. Oh, and you'll also have to salute him whenever he walks into the room (being the Supreme Allied Commander and all). 😊
November 11th, 2022 at 11:33 PM ^
Dogs are truly a man's best friend. They just love you unconditionally. Sorry Winston is no longer there for you.
Good luck with Ike, however and whenever ...

45-9, good guys.
I'm sipping on some bourbon this evening while watching the new version of "All Quiet on the Western Front" and keeping up on michigan HS playoff scores. Going to watch a game of a former player who is at a different school tomorrow, but am wishing I was going to have time to get in a treestand.
November 11th, 2022 at 8:05 PM ^
How are you able to track the h.s. Scores? Would love to do the same.
November 11th, 2022 at 8:13 PM ^
I use an app called scorestream. Fans update it so it's not always the most reliable, but come this time of year its generally decent. Twitter also has scores depending on who you follow (if you use the bird app, of course)
November 11th, 2022 at 8:15 PM ^
thank you. i don't do the tweets, but mrs. XM does so maybe i can ask her.
November 11th, 2022 at 8:36 PM ^
Fox Blitz does a good job with coverage on Twitter. There are also some accounts that are dedicated to HS football like "The D Zone"
November 11th, 2022 at 8:39 PM ^
I was able to watch some Michigan high school football (nephew's team) using this website:
It was pretty cool so see him play since I can't make it up there for games, but it has a subscription fee ($11.99/month or $79.99/year).
November 11th, 2022 at 8:45 PM ^
More teams are starting to livestream games as well. Theyre not allowed to do playoffs, but if your nephew still has a season or two left in his career, check out his future opponents YouTube channel. I've seen some pretty well done streams this year
November 11th, 2022 at 8:47 PM ^
That's great to know. He's got 2 more years, so that would be awesome.

Sure. It's Fulton (small school). Their season is over now, though.

Yar, the pirates. Smaller schools may not have that as available as bigger ones, but worth taking a look at

1. Kinda feels like a similar number to last week- maybe 51-14 or so?
2. Alas, I can't. Symphony dress rehearsal at 2pm, concert at 7.30. I might see if I can find somewhere to watch the second half when I'm on break.
3. Nothing right now, I've got some leftover drunken noodles that I made last night for when I get home, and maybe an M43 to go with it.
November 11th, 2022 at 8:14 PM ^
user name....checking out.
at least you can watch the first half, maybe have your phone on ESPN gametracker and check it during breaks in the practice session? hide it under your music sheets?
November 11th, 2022 at 9:09 PM ^
I'll probably be able to catch the second half the game- rehearsal is scheduled from 2 to 4.30, but this conductor often makes an effort to get us out early at dress rehearsals. I get score tracker notifications on my phone though, so I can probably keep half an eye on on and while I'm waiting thru the first three movements of the Brahms.

2. I wish I was going. Actually, since it's going to be pretty cold up there, I'm fine sitting down here in a comfortable 60 degrees during the day watching on TV. Gonna dip down to a chilly 45 degrees at night, so maybe I'll get a fire going outside and move a TV out for the evening games.
3. Drinking High Life. Ain't no good life, but it's my life (sung in Willie Nelson's voice).
Thanks for asking, XM! Cheers, y'all.

45-10. And not attending the game. Currently enjoying a Tom Pappa comedy special after spending waaaaaay too many hours blowing and raking leaves.
Remnants of the hurricane have made their way to us, a steady rain.
Light meals and zero alcohol until Sunday night when The Keeper and I will enjoy a quiet, celebratory dinner for two. She will dress for the occasion, be her radiant self and she'll enjoy her one single malt; I will listen happily to her; then we will toast our 40th anniversary and go home.
Life is good.
Go Blue. 👍
