Frames Janklin Previews Michigan Game
Franklin opens up with well-wishes for Mike Hart. "Ton of respect for Coach Harbaugh, for the university, for the program, for the venue."
- On offense: "Extremely efficient...they do a great job of staying on schedule." Shout-outs to Corum, who he "knows real well." Bell, McCarthy, "deep and talented tight end room."
- On defense: "Jesse Minter I've known for a long time, comes from a football family, I know his dad real well." "Starts up front with Mazi Smith, who we recruited extremely hard," also shouts out Colson, Morris, DJ Turner. Impressed by the DL pressure after losing Hutchinson and Ojabo.
- Special teams: Impressed with the "consistency." "AJ Henning is someone we recruited heavily."
Franklin believes that their OL is better prepared to deal with the Michigan DL this year (last year Michigan had 7 sacks against PSU). He says you need to stay close score-wise so you can use the running game more against Michigan, and stay on schedule on first down.

You're welcome, Comrade!
UPDATE: Alejandro Zuniga of 247 posted a transcript of Franklin's Michigan-related comments.

best of luck to mike hart. we recruited him too.
really like what theyve done downtown - great town. i recruited it.
stadium is nice. i invented stadiums.
gonna be a nice noon time game. i invented time (but not time management)

Harbaugh's wife is very nice. I...nevermind.

You want to see my doodle?

Harbaugh is a really good coach, I pushed really hard for Jack to have Jim.
October 11th, 2022 at 2:44 PM ^
Why does he always feel the need to say things like "someone we recruited heavily?" Is that his way of justifying his contract or something?
October 11th, 2022 at 2:49 PM ^
I think it's his way of showing respect to Michigan's players. He's acknowledging that there are a number of players on Michigan's roster that would have also had a role at Penn State had things gone differently.
October 11th, 2022 at 2:54 PM ^
He's also complimenting them on their better judgment
October 11th, 2022 at 3:13 PM ^
He could also be defending his talent evaluation (he saw their talent, too, but just couldn’t land them).
October 11th, 2022 at 3:00 PM ^
It's coach press conference speak --- it's a few extra sentences that help run out the clock, while also not saying anything even remotely incendiary.
(I, of course, have never tried to run out a clock on a business meeting by speaking in word salad. nope, nope, never, of course not. oh look at that, it's Noon, I have a hard stop, gotta bounce! Later!)

How he begs for acceptance. Self validation. Hey guys, hey guys....!
October 11th, 2022 at 3:42 PM ^
seems like it would hurt to point out recruiting losses. so agree with others that it's a way of complimenting the player as someone they coveted and Michigan for winning the recruiting battle.
October 11th, 2022 at 2:52 PM ^
Kinda makes it sound like Penn State's lost a lot of recruiting battles to Michigan lately.

"their punter is punting better than anyone in the country right now"
Someone tell Frames that we don't plan on punting.

Selfish comment that contributes in no way. Can someone post the gif of Franklin drawing the Big Lebowski dick just because?
October 11th, 2022 at 4:07 PM ^
This is my concern. Harbaugh always throws rock. Franklin always throws paper.
October 11th, 2022 at 4:32 PM ^
who hides rocks under paper anyway? Our rock is a paperweight!
October 11th, 2022 at 4:45 PM ^
I wish someone had a gif from the tv broadcast of that game when the tv spots Jim looking confused after Frames kicks the FG down 28-0. I hope Janklin stays at PSU forever.
October 12th, 2022 at 11:10 AM ^
I appreciate it.
October 11th, 2022 at 3:17 PM ^
Comments like these evidence a coach who focuses more on recruiting than on coaching. Need to do both well, not just one.
October 11th, 2022 at 4:57 PM ^
Penn State wins the recruiting services battles
Michigan wins the talent identifying and player development battles
October 11th, 2022 at 3:31 PM ^
Is Franklin trying to advocate for a position on the Michigan staff with all the name dropping of people he knows?
October 11th, 2022 at 5:07 PM ^
Michael Phelps, nice swimmer, very efficient, we recruited him heavily, I know his Mom well... we have a pool right?

Freddy J memes forever!
October 11th, 2022 at 6:06 PM ^
Anyone else worried he seems to know Michigan a little too well?
October 11th, 2022 at 7:08 PM ^
Seems like a Sparty in that respect.
October 13th, 2022 at 7:19 AM ^
He has years worth of notes.
October 11th, 2022 at 6:31 PM ^
He's a pretty good listen actually.

Lloyd Carrs verbal tick was “tremendous” - Franklin has one too.
Franklin said "obviously" 24 times in this particular press conference.
October 11th, 2022 at 7:23 PM ^
Franklin's a well-spoken guy who showed a lot of class in his statement. We sometimes forget that the coaching fraternity really means something in the B1G. I got the feeling that he was genuinely supportive of Hart, and was telling the truth about our team.
October 11th, 2022 at 8:30 PM ^
I know this is blasphemy because it's much more fun to poke fun at FG Franklin, but I actually enjoy his pressers. Very matter of fact, detailed, direct, no real attempt at spin or deception, no worrying about giving away state secrets.
His coaching on the other hand...

Since Frames is telling Cool Story Bros about guys they used to recruit and their dads, here's mine:
I just spent a week working with Cam Akers' dad. Real nice guy with solid restaurant recommendations. Didn't even mention who his son is until he was on his way out the door.
